I believe he was asking for Gaming (fast FPS/racing and such) ...  where speed is more essential than colour accuracy/depth/contrast/even shades...

good quality TN panels (and cheaper monitors) rather than U2412M

Alright hope he get what you mean

Anyone tried to buy the Displayport to HDMI connector or cable so that you can plug yr HDMI device to your monitor? I plan to plug my Ipad 2 to it but wonder if the displayport works with the DP to HDMI connector/cable. If anyone has tried it please let me know. I saw ebay sell the DP to HDMI connector/cable at RM30++.

Then you can be the white rat for this experiment tongue.gif
Anyway, most of the time HDMI to DP won't work if there's no native DP support through HDMI from your device (Ipad2).
Otherwise you'll need an active converter which cost at least 10x the price and require external power (USB powered or power adapter).
Or, you can just use HDMI to DVI, it works for many people.

Will not work... only some GCs carry HDMI signal-bypass on their DP port so you can use HDMI/DVI input monitor.... I believe no HDMI device/GC carries DP signal.
^ That's the use of the "cheap" adapter/cable, I'm currently using one too.

So on a DP input monitor, it requires a pure DP signal from source.

DP signal and HDMI signal are not compatible.

If you want value for money IPS panel and LCD, DELL is a good choice. Survey their full range from Entry LCD to Ultra Sharp models.

Cuz 24" using VA panel, has same 178 degree viewing angle as IPS does, using 8 bits panel n LED backlight.. RM799, seem quite a good buy for me.

For U2311H or U2412M, no difference... the panels are simply not able to display more bit-rate that DP port allows, so DP/HDMI/DVI will be equally the same... The higher end models with 10bit (or 8 + 2 bit) panels however does benefit form it.... but you'll also need supporting GC and software.

Hi BeastX & wildwestgoh, thanks for the sharing, I learnt something new about Displayport today, luckily I haven't hit the purchase in ebay on the DP to HDMI cable before I read your reply. Too bad about U2412M lack of HDMI input, need to get future display card with displayport as the DVI input from U2412M is being used to connect to my desktop. Got a reply by Dell that my monitor will arrive by this Wednesday so a good time to play on the new toy during the long Raya holidays.

If you have the monitor/GC/software beneficial using DP, why not use it. On lower end monitors DP is just another alternate input (that cost the monitor manufacturer less than compared to HDMI/DVI), and for the benefit of GCs output. I believe One DP output can support up to 4 1080p monitors.

I'll upload tonight some of my U2412M picture for those who interested. Not the calibration but the hardware itself.

The contrast ratio is easily better than IPS panel LCDs but the viewing angle still can't compare to IPS.It's also slower and tend to have black crush
