I don't think Astro is a joint venture between the private Astro company and the Malaysian government. If it is not a joint venture, why should Astro transmit free TV program for the government? So what have box or no box have to do with it?

If government wanted Astro to transmit free RTM, then the government should pay Astro money. So you should go blame government and stop barking up the wrong tree.

Put it in another way. I didn't pay for your car or your petrol, can I use it for free? Or do I have to pay you money to use it?

I didn't mention astro is a joint venture in my previous post

I said UK's freesat is a joint venture that astro and our government could emulate to provide non-luxurious free satellite TV to the rakyat
search the net, freesat is created in UK, read and understand about it more

did I blame government in my previous post? hmm.gif

barking up the wrong tree? where did it come from? rclxub.gif

please don't put your words in other people's mouth, read carefully other people's post rclxub.gif

we have already paid the government, now is their turn to provide us with free lunch, they should provide us alternative free satellite TV since they have already tax us for watching luxurious astro

I think there are more than 30 China channel. In fact, there are so many free channel up in the sky that you could get tired just pressing the remote control in changing from one channel to another. Beside China, you can get Taiwan program, Korean program, Indonesian program, Indian program, Pakistan program, German program, Philippine program, Australia program, Arab program.....so many you lost count. All FREE drool.gif

Now, who should we blame? And yet, we have 'frog in well'  mindset people complaining about the little RM20 Byond fees. They should think out of the box and try to get those FTA available instead.

You need cars to make a living, take kids to school to be educated etc. So car is a necessity.

You make a living out of watching Astro? You must teach me how. drool.gif

Your term frog in the well, is very rude and silly, u got all facts wrong and barking for nothing ! doh.gif Can I say those who support RM20 HD fees are the frogs in the well ? I wonder then who are those who oppose Valentine Day !! rclxm9.gif

You say UK Freestat is a joint venture. So Freestat can provide free TV.

You say Astro is not a joint venture. So Astro no need to provide free TV

Since you say our government should emulate UK but they did not, then go bark at the government.

To complaining about Astro not providing free TV is barking up the wrong tree.

Still gone get it?

I say:
Astro is not a necessity unlike car.
Astro is a luxury item.
Can not afford luxury item but expect luxury to be free is day dreaming.

The big picture.
Astro got how many channel? 30?
Free to Air got how many channel? 300? 400? 500?
Do not have "frog in well" mentality and fight over RM20 for 9 HD channels.
Open your eyes and fight for 300 free FTA channel.

You can on/off(standby), ch+ & ch- using button at the decoder. No need OK button.
Purchase your own remote will be a better solution

If may ask. Why is HBO HD still broadcasting those old movie instead of the likes of Percy Jackson The lightning Thieves, Clash of Titan etc.

When I checked the official HBO website, their schedule are full of very decent movies unlike ours. Aren't we paying for it too? doh.gif

I understand what ur saying coz I've been to Indonesia too..but may I ask 'those houses with the size of tiny toilet', did they get the FTA channels legally or illegally? Seriously I just want to know, coz if they get it illegally, then I see no difference between our government and theirs..thats why I want to know which SEA government actually gives their citizens the legal rights to have those FTA channels without any restrictions..

FTA channels are legal, but our law does not permit us use a large dish to recieve those. brows.gif In asia I know Singapore and Malaysia does not allow such big dishes.Basically for personal gains .

it seems that The Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Combodia have no restriction to own satellite equipments

sabah sarawak just like the rest of malaysia states, people are forbidden unrestrictive ownership of satellite equipments, but people there do it anyway knowing no one is enforcing the law

this is a list of satellites hovering on the equator belt, if their beam footprint cover your area, then you could receive these satellite TV channels with cheap satellite equipment

if you need to know more about satellite TV, I am sure a lot of local kids are happy to provide more info to you brows.gif

Hi all,

Concerning Astro Byond PVR ... If the program I want to record daily or weekly does not have a "Series Link " , is there a way to manually schedule it ? For example , WWE Raw have no series link. In Astro Max we can add manual schedule recording. Can we do this in Byond PVR ? Thanks.

I understand the part that FTA Channels are legal..maybe my term was wrong..instead of saying what country legalise FTA channels, I rephrase it by saying, which country in SEA has no law regarding FTA channels and satellite dishes..?

So basically, law in Malaysia and Singapore forbids their people from owning satellite dishes and viewing FTA channels right? So in The Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Combodia, it's up to their people's initiative to install those satellite dishes if the want to watch the FTA channels right?

So what I'm seeing is that it's our law that is the problem maker in us not getting FTA channels through our own satellite dishes..the law is governed by the 1MALAYSIA government who protects astro so that they could include service tax and other charges for their own personal income..Astro are in with this deal as long as they remain a strong satellite TV provider in Malaysia even though 8 other licenses have been given out..now i'm seeing the picture..and personally if the government says they ban FTA channels because the cannot censor or control the content of those channels, i think that is bulls***..

Another thing that got me thinking..I think this 6% service tax that the gov impose on Astro subscribers is just a gimmick to stir up the rakyat who in turn blame astro..seriously just read some of the comments of the people on Astro FB and some have no idea that the service tax is from the government....anyways, the gov will either suddenly abolish that ruling once the next general election is announced so that they can 'gain some votes' from those who think astro discriminated them..they will feel the gov came to their help hence a vote is gained..

or the service tax is another way of them raking in some money to use for the general election..that money we pay will be given back to us as sagu hati from the government..either way, I think and i hope that the 6% service tax will go before or after the GE..

Just my opinion..

Malaysia only allowed satellite dish for astro while in Singapore, no dish allowed at all. Normally FTA channel can be receive via terrestrial VHF/UHF in respective country. Using satellite dish added the ability to receive regional FTA channel, eg. Bali TV (only cover Bali area using terrestrial) & FTA channels for other country as well. For example, in Malaysia we can point our dish to Palapa D satellite to receive many Indonesian FTA channels, because we are in the footprint of Palapa D.

8 other licenses is for pay tv operator. Astro is still the sole pay tv satellite operator in Malaysia.
Personally I think the biggest hiccup for other pay tv operator is content. Astro hold many exclusive right for most demanded channels. This 'exclusive right' is not right.
