I have a question, I got 2 account on different address, 1 with B.yond and 1 with normal Astro, my question is, since they are receiving from the same satelite, why normal old Astro dish can't be used on B.yond decoder?
*

biggrin.gif This is why AV Asia sue Astro. Confusing customer to change the dish - although it is for customer benefit.

Hi, I'm new to Astro Byond. When I turn on the Byond decoder, it display something like "Firmware update available". But no matter what I pressed, I still can't get it update. I left my decoder overnight but I'm still getting the same message. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
*

Unplug power for 1 minute, on it again. If the problem still happen, call Astro CS for replacement.

they took the old satellite thou. cant use for my own. Lol.  laugh.gif

laugh.gif that is dish, not satellite. doh.gif
If you want to take out satellite, you need to have something like this
Or in more extreme way, like China & US did. But with satellite in Geo orbit like Measat, it will be more difficult at 36k km away laugh.gif

Firmware/software updates are done automatically or do we have to force it?
*

Just leave decoder in standby mode, it will auto update within 5 minutes. You can also force it.

Confirmed, anything wrong with the box, a tecnician will come and repair it for free. no more RM50 service charge. thumbup.gif
*

Not only with the box, LNB also included.
I had a faulty LNB couple of week ago, technician came to replace it. They still stated RM50 in their service job form, but I don't need to pay them. I guess this time Astro have to pay them RM50.

QUOTE(choccy36 @ Dec 30 2010, 03:04 PM)
anyone in the forum using external HDD for PVR recording.  Occassionally, when i try to playback recorded shows,  i will have some shows without picture/sound and i can see the timing keeps skiping x seconds.  And for some shows, when fastforward, the show cannot go back to normal speed....it just keeps on skipping.  2 weeks ago, astro technician did swap my decoder.  But still the same thing happen.  Now my next try is to swap the externall HDD as still under warranty.

Anyone face the same problem?  any fixes or known cause?
*

I also had this problem. I notice that this problem happen when you're not watching LIVE channel or not in standby mode while your decoder is recording. But I don't have this problem during early time with external HDD. Only when HDD is half-full, this problem start to happen.

So, when you're recording while watching don't do anything else (rewind, pause, watching recorded program) or you'll miss anything from the moment you're not watching live program until you catch live program again. I had a few disappointing moment & most recently I miss 15 min from Shinjuku Incident which I'm pause while recording. So, if you want to pause while recording make sure you stop recording first, then pause. But make sure you press record again before your buffer run out (default is 30min), & don't forget to catch live program before record.

@lapaq
I believe you know someone from Astro or you're one of them. Please tell them this is a bug & need to be fix. You can try it yourself first, I believe you have byond with externall HDD too. I also believe you need to re-initialize (format) HDD or buy new HDD in order to fix this problem. But then, it will happen again in the future.

Perhaps you can also give some details on you current Box software version, how many record-able hours you have left in your eHDD. Happends to HD channels only or SD as well?
*

I'm sure my box has latest software version, can't remember the version but if you really want it I will confirm tonight. I have 30+ hours available now but I realize this problem happen when I have 50+ hours left (not sure if it was happen before that as I'm not aware but certainly not happen when I have 100+ hours)
It happen for both SD & HD channels. I remember, I miss first 3 min MAS vs INA 2nd leg (I had scheduled it to record) because I'm watching recorded program during that time & most recently Shinjuku Incident while I'm paused it for 15 min

QUOTE(lapaq @ Jan 4 2011, 04:08 PM)
Pls correct me if I'm wrong. You're watching Konsert RTM tongue.gif Ch 101 for example, you start to record it after 10 minutes the program started (If you have the first 10 mins in you buffer, you all be recording the buffer as well in your planner). Of course, this being an eHDD, you have to continue watching while this channel the box records. You are saying that, while watching and recording it, you can't rewind and pause teh recording? If you do, the box will stop recording Konsert RTM?
*

I know it will record in the buffer as well but what I mean is, during recording if I pause it eg. for 1 min. After 1min, I press play but I will only get freeze picture & sound. Sometime subtitle appear randomly. Normally it will play in faster mode (you can notice it with the timer). Recording didn't stop, but it won't record anything from the moment I pause or rewind until I press fast fwd to catch live program. But if the box not recording, pause rewind & fwd is fine. If I watch it after recording finished, I will get blank picture & sound for that interval.

QUOTE(lapaq @ Jan 4 2011, 04:08 PM)
If you do pause it or rewind it a bit. you are then about 5 mins behind live view. After the program finished recording, when you go into your planner, will you see a full green circle icon (full recording) or a green pie icon (partial recording)?
You also said don't forget to catch live program before record...I don't get what you mean here.
*

It will show full green circle. If I pause or rewind but did not fwd it to catch live view after that, it will stuck from that moment until finished although it will show full green circle. But it will back to normal after I catch live view.

Pls get back on you software version. Also, you mentioned that you will get a full green circle even if it stuck. Say, it stuck and you get a full circle. If you watch it again some other time, are you able to watch it fine or with problems?
*

It will still have a blank picture & sound in that interval. Doesn't matter how many times I watch it again.
I will confirm on software version tonight.

Your problem is just same like me.  Although I have 100hours free, this problem is still happen. Some external HDD user here say they don't have this problem. Is it just you and me got this problem?  sweat.gif So it firmware problem or hardware problem actually?  icon_question.gif
*

shocking.gif Oh, I guess this problem happen over time doesn't matter how much space left. Since you've 100 hours free, it might indicate you're not recording much program. Could you try to format your HDD? (under Installation setting menu) But all recording will be gone though. I can't do that now cry.gif
But it could temporarily solve the problem.

btw, this is my software version

Format? I also can't do that and not worth to format because it just temporary. Some of file is my favorite programme.
So what we can do right now to solve this problem? From what I know only you and me got this problem.  sweat.gif
*

I believe not only you & me. Please, whoever has byond with ext HDD, try to pause/rewind while recording. Find out what will happen to your recorded program after that (at the specific time when you pause/rewind).

I recalled the astro technician is resetting the byond set by pressing the ch+/- many times and the set will auto update the software.  Anyone knows about it?
*

That is force update. Auto update will happen within 5 minutes when you leave your decoder in standby mode, if there's an update available.

registered 2 weeks ago. installer came yesterday to pasang but i was not at home. leave it to my mum. after i got back from work on the evening, eager to watch HD... got few probs.
1) remote control cannot adjust volume. (is it because the remote only control volume of the tv, not decoder?)
2) all my HD channel got permanent msg appear saying 'copy protection failed'. annoying la to watch movie like dis. hehehe. (i tried to browse this thread but too many pages and i ended up nowhere... help....)
3) i'm using sony bravia dunno what model (but very old ones la). i see got hdmi channel. but the astro installer connet the red-white-yellow wires to my previously used 'video1' lobangs. is this correct? i tot astro hd should use hdmi channel...? am i getting a low-quality hd channel like this?
any byond user from Ipoh want to help me? very2 newbie here and dunno anything about these shits...  icon_question.gif
*

1) you can read it in the manual. Read this post will help too.
http://stinkyfruit.wordpress.com/2010/02/1...volume-control/

2) Is your firmware updated? Worst case is your TV might not support HDCP

3) You can use HDMI only but if your tv not support HDCP, you can only watch SD channel

thanks eMKs,
so that means, the remote control audio from the tv, not the decoder eh? looks like i'm dead. because my tv set was a gift from my brother. he said that tv is meant for display only. so it doesnt come with remote control. all the while i had to manually press the button on top. buying pasar malam remote control also useless since he said, no signal receiver installed in that tv set... adui.. nevertheless, i'll try to do that programming thing tonight.

as for the HDCP, how do i know whether my tv support HDCP or not? and what's the latest firmware? i tot mine is the latest la since they just pasang my byond yesterday...
*

shocking.gif How you can live with a tv that has no remote control? shakehead.gif
You can check your firmware in system version under installation setting. Just leave your decoder in standby mode, it will auto update within 5 minutes.
As for HDCP, new TV should support. But if your TV is old version (normally not support HDCP), you can use HDFury to convert HDMI to component.
Btw, it's not worth to get it since your TV also does not support remote control.
Buy a new TV is a best choice tongue.gif . HD Ready TV is relatively cheap nowadays rclxms.gif

I don't think you can record, it's like ABO/PPV channel.
Actually, total cost is RM16.05 = RM15 + RM0.90 (6% tax) + RM0.15 (SMS charges). Don't know sms reply will be charge or not.

I'm recording a show on HBO live and at the same time watching something that I already recorded. I noticed that the sound would drop off for the live recording after awhile. It only comes back after I stop watching the recorded show.

Any ideas why? Can't I watch a recorded video while recording something?

Btw, I'm using the WD HDD with Astro B.yond. I've already tried formating the hard drive.
*

Another victim.
My problem has gone from bad to worst. Even when i'm not recording, when I pause live show I can't resume it shakehead.gif

@lapaq, any update? Are you able to replicate the problem.

well upgrade to PVr decoder (no problem for me)
rather byond plus wd hdd
*

The only thing that hesitate me to go for PVR is because of the HDD space. I like the idea of ext HDD as you can have as many HDD as you want (off course only one can be plugged at a time). With the price still going down (I saw RM185 last week), it's a good choice. Conflict program is not a big problem as Astro will repeat the program several times.

With PVR, you will stuck with space less than 100 hours for HD channel (most of my recorded program in HD). If Astro allow PVR to attached with ext HDD or to be able to transfer to external media (pray hard) laugh.gif , then I'm going to PVR.

Hello everyone,
currently I have astro b.yond that is connected to the satellite dish in the master-bed  room.
However, i just bought a new 50' tv which is located at the living room.
I am able to receive astro over there BUT d HD channels are really horrible. If i were to purchase another b.yond box, how would the process be?
Would i be charged extra every month/ is it 2 seprate accounts or what?
thanks in advance!
*

If you want to watch same channel as of you did now but with HD quality, read this thread.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1489743

But if you want to subscribe new account, you need to pay full price package. There's no 50% off promotion anymore from Astro. You need to apply new subscription. New cable will be lay from new decoder to the dish & LNB will be change with 2 output.

ok so in other words,if i installed beyond,my pic quality is better in SD programmes?
as compared to the old astro box?

Don't expect it will be better, SD is still SD. Best view using CRT TV.
But for me, after using byond box using HDMI connection PQ is slightly improved (it's still depend on your TV).
