Am from Singapore.....here are the correct List:

Starhub Cable
1. Discovery HD World
7. FOX HD
8. FOXCRIME HD
10. STAR World HD
15. ASN HD

MediaCorp Free-to-Air [Terrestrial]
1. HD5
2. HD8 - coming this year according to reliable news
3. HDU - coming this year according to reliable news

*
We need to have the above HD , in addition to disney HD.

Free TV is counted as everyone in the country can view it.

By the way, what is ASN HD ?

Unfortunately free Astro isn't in the United Nation Declaration of Human Rights together with free Abalone, free Starbucks coffee, free BMW, free petrol, free travels and free everything.

http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml

On the other hand, there should be free competition against Astro.
*
Yeah and I also want Astro to have competition. But, I remember We still have 8 other companies with Pay TV license but Unifi is the only on out there with a business. The rest all only have the guts to do tests and trial because they are afraid to lose the license.

Who in their right mind want to invest RM 300 to 500 mil just to start a Pay TV company when not only they wont have Barclay PL And Akademi fantasia...they have to price it cheaper than Astro. I don't think we will have one unless that company has mountains of money piled up as high as Mount Kinabalu and don't mind losing it in the first few years and will most probably get back the money after 5 hrs or so.

QUOTE(smileguy @ Feb 13 2011, 12:05 PM)
Friend, I think Astro fare is just like those wives we just cannot live without them !! yawn.gif  We hv also to see this way ,those who just take family pack end up paying  another RM20 for just for  5 rojak channels, I still feel its unfair there shld not be HD fees.  rolleyes.gif

Added on February 13, 2011, 12:09 pm
By collecting 6% tax they  may become the number one  service tax contibutor of the govt, competition I doubt it cos everyone with licence only talk big but no ..... to start, UNifi  is still hiding in the same spots it started ! hmm.gif
*
Smile guy, kenot la without HD fee. How to pay for the content? All together 12 channels and not a single cent payable to Astro? I don't think Astro is charity company.

Personally, I understand why they want to have that HD fee. They want the family Only people to at least take movies or other pack, that way, they can have additional HD channels. astro in the other hand will have more people taking their Movies and sports and other packages where they will make more money from.

For HD contents, not only they are more expensive (to pay the studios) and take up a lot of bandwidth compared to SD, Astro kenot price them that high because HDTV penetration is not that High yet. So they have to make money using the existing package upgrade.

As for the family only guy, I don't think this is the group Astro is targeting for HD.

QUOTE(penangmee @ Feb 13 2011, 02:28 PM)
If you cannot afford Astro packages how did you manage to pay for HD TV?. Mummy's bank A/C ?

Has Astro anything to do with the government NOT allowing us to have Free to Air satellite from all over the world? There are literally hundreds of free channel and some paid channel up in the sky that are accessible to us for a mere few hundred Ringgit (paid once in a lifetime, not monthly or yearly etc), if only the government allows it.

I think the right word is YOU need them rather than WE. Let everyone here speaks for themselves Jals. Unless you are their Wakil Rakyat or something. we don't need those channels if it means more money for Astro.

He'll I'd rather have things like Netflix so I can choose what to watch and when to watch them. I'm willing to pay more than RM50 monthly for things like Netflix. or at least VOD where I can choose what to watch and just pay for that.

most probably Jals doesnt know these things like Netflix thats why he just keeps whining..

I agree with u bro lapaq..the method of VOD or in another way pay for what u want would be a real good option if it was ever offered..

If you think RM 20 is way too expensive, then just unsubscribe it or don't subscribe.

No point complaining, they is no free meal in this world.

----------

Those say not everyone is rich and no money on it is rubbish, if you are poor enough then stick to your current CRT TV, even your current CRT TV is spoil, then buy another CRT TV (I believe it can save a lot for you and put in more important things which can feed you - food). Means while unsubscribe your Astro package, as if money is concern, a normal antenna Free TV channel is well enough.

HD is luxury thing and is not a must to get, it just extra for better entertainment but not important / a must have in life.

You can paid HDTV price, means you can afford that little RM 20 for HD source. If you can't, no one is forcing you upgrade to HDTV and wait for HD source FOC.

----------

If you want to an earlier bird test, sometimes extra expenses is needed. HD is not common yet for now in Malaysia or a lot of countries in the world, wait till it became common, every channel will be HD and FOC or as it suppose price. (or move to Japan now, Japan now is 100% all channel in HD and FOC).

At JB Giant still plenty of CRT TV. tongue.gif

You still can get those CRT TV from Giant, Carrefour.

Not from Jusco or any electrical shop like SenQ, Court M and etc.

** Above my post is actually pointing to one of the forumer here that keep saying RM 20 no value due to so call "We need to have the XXX HD channel", in fact is he need it not "we" need it.

Pls let us b clear abt 1 main point here...

Subscription to Astro is VOLUNTARY! No one is forced to join/watch Astro prgs.

YOU know wat yu're subscribing for when yu sign up for an Astro package. If yu don't, it's yr own fault & ignorance cos yu oledi know wat yu're subscribing for. Hope/Wish is just that...yr hope/wish. Not reality. Sorry...

The Govt knows that, as well as that Astro pkgs are a LUXURY item...NOT a necessity! That's why a Service Tax can be imposed on Astro subs. Yu want it, yu pay for it! Simple as that.

If one is not happy with Astro Services, one is alwaz entitled to cancel/not subscribe to Astro. Your right as a Consumer.

Sincerely hope above clarification will help open more eyes to Reality! Me not associated nor linked with Astro in any way! Juz a neutral bystander nia. TQ.

Zeone,

Matila lu...last time (till today in fact) I've been saying what you've stated. In the end they branded me as a Manager in Astro Customer Service since I got 'my ways' to help the forummer here who are in trouble. So if they said you are working in Astro next...you better go find a job there as you are going to be stuck with the name.

asto should offer free satellite TV something similar to uk's freesat, where there is no subscription and no contract, just a one-off payment for the digital box whistling.gif

if you are astro customer, think more like what a customer should do shakehead.gif suggest ideas that are more beneficially to to customer, not acted as astro spokeperson shocking.gif

to clarify bro lapaq, I dont think all the forumers here view u that way and even by giving and branding u names, it is meant in a good and complimentary way..most of us are very appreciative of the way u help people out and give useful tips and infos to people..i too am very respectful of ur good deeds and help..it's just a number (maybe one) of the forummers who keeps knocking u when the fact remains that forummer keeps talking BIG but doent do a s**t bout anything..

Keep up the good work bro lapaq..u will always be respected by others..

I beg to differ, astro is not luxury but a neccesity for some. Many of us cannot even recive our very own FTA channels clearly despite those aerials and hv to take Astro just for reception sake so here it becomes a neccesity. The govt is very unfair it shld direct astro to distribute these FTA Govt. channels FOC and not put them in the family pack and sell for RM37.95 ! Anybody who has astro shld be entitled to Govt.channels FOC.Even u cut astro ,astro CANNOT not cut the reception of Govt.channels. Astro is a neccesity but has been made look like luxury and as usual our minister wld say who ask u to subscribe ,when he also knows that even a fair reception of govt. channels is not possible without the astro dish!

That you should blame the RTM or the government and not Astro. Just like the road in my town is lousy, should I blame you for it or the government?

I see wat yu mean re Terrestial TV Ch eg RTM 1,2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV etc. Frankly, esp for RTM 1 & 2, that's the Govt's responsibility. True? The other channels eg by Media Prima, is up 2them 2improve access, being also private entities & thus subject 2commercial profitability & shareholders' interests.

Yup, it's unfortunate Msia has such terrain & "blind spots" causing poor reception via normal antennae. Of course it'd be wonderful if some commercial enterprise or "charitable" body cld provide such FOC access. However, as everyone knows, Msia is NOT in that "advanced" stage yet...long long way 2go, really!!

Yup, Bro Lapaq, one can nvr "force" anyone 2accept the reality of Life in Msia. We really need 2count our blessings..wat we hv and NOT wat we NOT hv. Agreed?

If we compare ourselves 2those who hv, we will akwaz be UNhappy & frus.

If we compare 2those who not hv, we're indeed so blessed!

Sincerely hope all who hv such UNhappiness will seek Happiness thru understanding...

Wish all well during this Happy Season! PEACE. smile.gif

hi guys, my father just subscribed to byond and the installer told me not to switch off the decoder (do not switch off the supply), just leave it at standby if not watching otherwise the decoder will not work. Is that true? kind of hard to believe that . Thanks

I never switch off my B.yond but for the 1st time last night (or may be it was the 1st time I noticed it), the decoder suddenly switched off all itself. Automatically reboot and when it came online again, it says something about "recording" feature now "on". What the heck is going on? I don't subscribe to any PVR?
