And also for byond decoder, got sd channel 994.

for old decoder - channel 110
for byond decoder - hd = channel 110 / sd = channel 994
*
Guess Astro getting smarter! Like in simple comp prgming,
If B'yond decoder, then HD signals...Else SD...

1 Ch accomodating both HD & SD...
Haha! Wonders of Hi-tech... wink.gif

UPDATE: Yup! Heard on Fiesta advert that it's available in BOTH HD & SD on Ch 110!!
Thumbs up to Astro for accomplishing such a feat! Or is it Astro's latest experiment?

Guys, i just istalled beyond today.
Have a question.

1- My Sharp LED tv is only detecting 1080i and 50hz, but my tv suppose to be 1080p and 100hz. Should i be worried?
*
Astro transmitting in only 1080i mainly for HD. NOT in FULL HD or 1080p. At times it can even be upscaled/converted SD material. Sorry...

So yr TV is ok. Actually one does NOT need FULL HD TVs to watch Astro B'yond programs...a HD READY TV is good enuf.

Added on December 27, 2010, 10:34 pmAdvice to potential/future subscribers to Astro B'yond who intend to buy new LCD/LED/Plasma TVs :

If plan to use TV only for watching Astro B'yond prgs, you only need a HD READY TV ie onecthat supports 1080i.
If plan to also watch Blu-ray Discs of movies in 1080p, then only do yu need a FULL HD TV. Frankly even a good HD READY TV can be used to watch such BD Discs too.

However, of course, if yr budget allows, then it's more of YOUR CHOICE of TV... wink.gif

Added on December 27, 2010, 10:42 pm*** To be safe...Pls Google for all those terms associated with all these formats so that you understand what they are all about b4 yu jump into a purchase! Don't just listen to sales pitch...can be VERY misleading at times!!

Good Luck!!

Hi! Can any1 confirm activation of Astro B'yond is now "instant" ie upon completion of installation?
Appears to hv conflicting views in here till now... sad.gif

And if it's a NEW subscriber, are yu given the B'yond Decoder on installation or the Std old one until it is replaced when available? Astro's webpages said that would be the procedure ie B'yond Decoder NOT given on installation!!!

TQ in Adv.

just upgrade to  byond today
installer install around 12pm....till now still account inactive

hmmm .... gonna wait till tomolo .... installer say 24 hour , astro cs say 2 weeks ??????
cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif

Yup, it appears Astro is still NOT capable of activating any B'yond installation within 24 hrs!! My call to Cust Serv resulted in response fr its B'yond Dept ppl saying it'll take at least ONE week for activation!! sad.gif

So unless yu're prepared to wait 1 week....??

I just cannot understand why Astro cannot allow present subs to continue with their existing set till day new B'yond decoder sys can be activated...? This way subs will not be deprived of their regular viewing.

Astro never MALU la.. coz no skin alledi...

Absolutely agree.  No contingency plan.. As if they never learnt the mistake they made in year 2004..  In overseas, Astro kenna sued till the pant down alledi.
*
Migration NOT completed... Even if completed as claimed from some sources, Astro still needs ONE week to activate any upgrade to B'yond!!
I know cos B'yond Dept guy who called me back after my enquiry abt an upgrade, said so!! No way to activate within 24 hrs as opined by 1 of their Cust Serv guys!! sad.gif

1 whole week w/o services?? Will Astro provide any rebates? No mention either... sad.gif

This is always HUGE problem with monopoly!! Where got 1 Malaysia - Rakyat Didahulukan?? Sorry la...

ps. In my housing area, only got 1 hse with B'yond!! Why? Yu kno, rite? Haha!

Look arnd yu...how many B'yond satellite dishes do yu see? I've been scanning rooftops everywhere I go.

And do I see many such dishes? Almost none!! Even in a well-endowed neighbourhood like Tanjung Bungah Park, I could barely make out a couple only!!

Why? In spite of all promos by Astro?

Only 1 answer...

Poor & Incompetent service!!! Yup, "NATO" mber! No Action Talk Only! sad.gif

zeone...really upset meh!

Not really... wink.gif Actually can do w/o B'yond wan! Haha! Like my neighbours, friends & relatives commented, "We don't hv time to watch all those existing channels as is. To pay xtra RM20/mth for channels we most probably won't even watch is a waste!!"

Agreed? There's logic & rational thinking in that, rite?

Me upset? Nope. Just plain fed up with admin ppl who are not pro-active in their positions! Top management waiting & hoping for more subs to B'yond and ...??

Here yu hv a long-time customer (since year 2000) offering the xtra RM20/mth that many not willing to part with (like Smileguy opined) ...and yu hv in Astro an admin guy not willing to walk that xtra mile to make it happen!

Now is that arrogance due2 market monopoly or ...? Cust Serv ppl say 1 thing & B'yond Dept guy says another? How are potential subscribers expected 2feel?

Moreover, it's so hard 2see the logic for a 1 week activation period. Not that there are thousands or even hundreds waiting in line! That's why I commented on the insignificant no. of B'yond subs everywhere atm.

Maybe more of trying to get xtra time while ironing put issues due2 migration?

YOU tell me ... Just can't find rational excuses for Astro anymore...

Most likely, perhaps in a way that RM20 HD Fees wld not show ! hmm.gif Its this fees which gives many a second thought to switch to HD !
*
Not just the xtra RM20/mth la! Many can afford lo. Yu know, ppl can fork out thousands of RM for a Full HD tv or at least almost RM1k (offers now) for a HD ready unit!

It's the lack of confidence in Astro to activate the upgrade fast so that subscribers do NOT lose continuity in the serials they are currently following! Waiting for 1 week w/o any reception means missing at least 5 episodes for each serial!!

Why can't Astro disconnect/terminate old decoder ONLY WHEN B'yond is activated? Just need 2practise good scheduling & management of resources & services!

Hey! Yu guys oledi with B'yond...hv yu been paying xtra RM20 & most of time getting such stretched 4:3 sh*t??

1080i/720p is understandable & acceptable cos it's universal. But this crap is ... BAD!! sad.gif

Pls do cool it, guys! wink.gif

Contentment comes in various degrees 4different ppl. To some, paying RM20/mth 4just 1 HD Ch eg Sports is oledi MORE than worth it...mayb cos other Channels not watched & thus not matter...
To others, it might b just a matter of what their rights are ie RM20/mth was for the Channels Astro promoted in their promo campaigns! Simply put...it's a matter of principle!

If all subscribers can b UNITED & act in the common good, consumers voices wld b heard and respected & NOT disregarded as is the case in Msia nowadays! And in this case by Astro! Agreed?

Pls let us b clear abt 1 main point here...

Subscription to Astro is VOLUNTARY! No one is forced to join/watch Astro prgs.

YOU know wat yu're subscribing for when yu sign up for an Astro package. If yu don't, it's yr own fault & ignorance cos yu oledi know wat yu're subscribing for. Hope/Wish is just that...yr hope/wish. Not reality. Sorry...

The Govt knows that, as well as that Astro pkgs are a LUXURY item...NOT a necessity! That's why a Service Tax can be imposed on Astro subs. Yu want it, yu pay for it! Simple as that.

If one is not happy with Astro Services, one is alwaz entitled to cancel/not subscribe to Astro. Your right as a Consumer.

Sincerely hope above clarification will help open more eyes to Reality! Me not associated nor linked with Astro in any way! Juz a neutral bystander nia. TQ.

QUOTE(smileguy @ Feb 14 2011, 02:40 PM)
I beg to differ, astro is not  luxury but a neccesity for some. Many of us cannot even recive our very own FTA channels clearly despite those aerials and hv to take Astro just for reception sake so here it becomes a neccesity. The govt is very unfair it shld direct astro to distribute these FTA Govt. channels FOC and not put them in the family pack and sell for RM37.95 ! Anybody who has astro shld be entitled to Govt.channels FOC.Even u cut astro ,astro CANNOT  not cut the reception of Govt.channels. Astro  is a neccesity but has been made look like luxury and as usual our minister wld say who ask u to subscribe ,when he also knows that even a fair reception of govt. channels is not possible without the astro dish!
*
I see wat yu mean re Terrestial TV Ch eg RTM 1,2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV etc. Frankly, esp for RTM 1 & 2, that's the Govt's responsibility. True? The other channels eg by Media Prima, is up 2them 2improve access, being also private entities & thus subject 2commercial profitability & shareholders' interests.

Yup, it's unfortunate Msia has such terrain & "blind spots" causing poor reception via normal antennae. Of course it'd be wonderful if some commercial enterprise or "charitable" body cld provide such FOC access. However, as everyone knows, Msia is NOT in that "advanced" stage yet...long long way 2go, really!!

Yup, Bro Lapaq, one can nvr "force" anyone 2accept the reality of Life in Msia. We really need 2count our blessings..wat we hv and NOT wat we NOT hv. Agreed?

If we compare ourselves 2those who hv, we will akwaz be UNhappy & frus.

If we compare 2those who not hv, we're indeed so blessed!

Sincerely hope all who hv such UNhappiness will seek Happiness thru understanding...

Wish all well during this Happy Season! PEACE. smile.gif

Re present "hot" topic here, cld everyone just take 1 step back & look at the "whole picture"? At facts & reality in Life & the World?

Pls dun argue 4sake of arguing. Pls dun "play with words"...

I feel sure everyone wants the best 4their $$$. True?

Using the word "should" ( I see everyone using it AND not "must") is appropriate in all arguments put forward here. The Govt should...Astro should...etc. wink.gif

Unfortunately, we kenot "DEMAND". sad.gif We can wish for; we can hope for ... Maybe one day in the future? If we stand united & work towards the country's progress, wealth & maturity...??

Thank you... PEACE. wink.gif

Hi! Re Activation waiting period for B'Yond, I can confirm that Astro Cust Service states that there IS now a 14-day Wait For Activation!! NOT for installation...which is a separate matter.

However, the lady at the other end assured that the days "lost" ie w/o any Astro reception, wld b noted & deducted fr subsequent billing.

Also the no. of days to wait for activation may b less depending on the "Q"... ( on the same line of reasoning...the days can b more too, rite?)

On being asked if the activation waiting period is the same for NEW subscribers, her answer was "YES"!!

So....do old, existing, loyal(?) subscribers get any preference / advantange for being so...? A Big NO!!

Sorry, folks!

I have deactivated my HD services.

Until they add in more HD channels and remove the subtitles into closed caption, let all of us BOYCOTT astro HD.

Cost of everything is going up and with 6% govt tax, it's just not worth it to pay so much to greedy monopoly.

BOYCOTT  icon_rolleyes.gif

Go for it!! One up for consumer rights!! wink.gif
