I experience no sound or freeze picture. No problem when recording and watch same channel. You try recording live channel while watch existing recording programme and see what happen to your latest recording.  icon_question.gif

Pls tell us what software version are you on right now. Got to settings->System Version then give the full version number and the date as well. Let's get this working for you. I used to have this problem back in August but after the latest software update...I don't have the problem anymore.

got my astro upgraded to b.yond on 18/12 and activated on 20/12 after many long and nasty calls to cs.

just 1 quick question for those who can help.

everytime i power up the decoder, it always go back to channel 101.
is it supposed to be like that or is there something wrong with my decoder?

thanks.
*
QUOTE(galantorian7116 @ Dec 21 2010, 10:37 AM)
It is the same for me, C101 everytime.
*
You guys can change this by setting Fav channel. The first Fav channel you set will be the default channel after the box is rebooted.

True but did not answer the question tongue.gif . Refer to my post above to have the box switched to a preferred channel after it is rebooted.

thanks for the reply.

correct me if i'm wrong, this means it will not be able to return to the last watch channel like in all the old astro decoders even after powering off and on again unless i only go to standby mode or setup a favorite channel.
*
True. no more last view channel once the box is rebooted (not waking up from standby).

Guys,question here...

My home already have astro.
So now my father is planning to change the decoder to beyond version but don't want to activate HD.
How much will he'll be charged for the decoder replacement & is it possible for changing decoder without subscribing to HD(plan to stick with SD)?
*
There is no reason to change to B.yond if you are not activating HD. However, if you want to upgrade to PVR for the recording function then it's a wise choice.

before calling astro for a replacement, you can change to another HDMI cable to check if your problem is cable related, another thing to check is proper ventilation, byond box run quite hot even in standby mode

my byond box has acquired a few accessories along the way such as tesco HDMI cable and laptop USB cooling pad, so far running smoothly thumbup.gif
*
Ned,

B.yond box being hot is a good thing. That means the heat is dissipated by the box's surface effectively. Just ensure that the box is not enclosed in a closed box.

Thanks!

hot is good? hmm.gif if you said so

on my book, running hot in standby is bad
*
QUOTE(agingamer @ Dec 22 2010, 10:00 PM)
i think it's bad too. it uses about 18W of electricity in when it is in standby mode.
to me, that is not really standby mode, whereas most things uses 1-2W only.
*
You see, the B.yond box on standby mode is not the same as per the old boxes. a B.yond box on standby is still ready to instantly records program once they started. In the near future when it's working as a hybrid box (Satellite and IP based) during standby, it'll be able to download movies in teh background and have a wake-on-LAN capabilities for some cool features.

If you guys look at the PS3, it has two standby modes. 1. Normal standby with in 1 watt usage. If you set the ps3 to have a wake on LAN feature, it instantly uses approx 18-20 watt of electricity.

It's the standard for the current technology. Something we need to have for future capabilities. ButAstro better get the B.yond platform deliver all those faster or it will backfire them.

QUOTE(l_berd @ Dec 22 2010, 11:26 PM)
technically we dint own it, and no point of owning it unless you want to reverse engineering it or  what-not biggrin.gif

Added on December 22, 2010, 11:27 pmbtw, 6% increase on the bill starting next month due to service tax being implemented. thoughts? i dont mind paying if their service is good and less rain fade issues though, but that's not the case now
*
Guys, Let's all shift the angriness to the 'masses' who consumes TV like food for the Tax imposed on everyone. You see, Astro services is not a necessity, it is a want or dare I say it....semi-luxury item/service. Prolonged or uncontrolled usage will lead to life being lifeless.

I think, that is why the govt decided to impose service Tax as it looks like 50% of the household in Malaysia Consumes Astro like they consume food. Maybe by having to pay extra we all will realise that watching too much TV is bad. And the govt on the on the other hand think that this is just easy modey. Imagine if Astro have 1 Bil Revenue, it's an easy 60 mil revenue for them.

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Dec 23 2010, 07:08 AM)
Are sure about this new B.Yond? Can show us the link? Because whenever the SD decoder broke, we have to pay for repair ourself.

Added on December 23, 2010, 7:12 am

Yap. Totally agree. I saw a shop with B.Yond on a 29"(?) LCD. But my SD Astro on my old Sony CRT picture quality is far far better.
*
Confirmed, anything wrong with the box, a tecnician will come and repair it for free. no more RM50 service charge. thumbup.gif

What about the normal SD Astro receiver. What happens if they broke, we pay for the RM50 service charge PLUS the repair fee?
*
It depends of the type of Box you have. Currently there are promotions where Astro Subsidise the Box's parts for certain types of SD boxes. This means you only pay RM50.

IINM, there 1-2 types of box not covered under the Astro subsidy programs. so you'll have to pay RM50 + RM XX for the parts.

As per the above post, Astro covers the LNB/Dish as well for B.yond but for SD Boxes, you have to pay RM50 + LNB if it goes kaput.

Thanks!

HDMI only works if you subscribe to HD package. If not HD you will have to use the AV cables

6% service tax kicks in year 2011.  If you change your billing cycle to 1 year and your billing date is from now and before 1 jan 2011, you can save a lot and depends on your billing amount.
*
Hate to burst your bubble, you should've done this back in October when it was first announce. Astro takes time to change your billing frequency to yearly instead of Monthly so all of us are out luck.

But to those who are already on yearly bill and has been billed prior to 1st Jan...considered yourself Tax Free for a year. nod.gif

*

Good, Now go and email Astro your resume and tell them you will be their HD Subtitles Designer. They may have to create a new post for you though since they don't have 'real' subs for HD Programs yet.

Ok will try calling them  biggrin.gif

Other than them, where else can I call for installer?I don't remember how I got an installer the last time I installed normal Astro,I think Astro sent one after I requested to subscribe
*
Why would you call them. Installers are assigned according to location. furthermore, if you've applied for a box, they wouldn't know until you request has been processed by Astro and assigned to the installers.

Best thing to do is to call Astro and get the info first hand from them.

Thanks!

QUOTE(AjkR06 @ Dec 27 2010, 03:44 PM)
According to Astro Byond PVR TnC, there's no contract for Byond PVR...

You can terminate it everytime you want. But make sure you give advance one month written notice to terminate the PVR service..

And they will take back your PVR and give you normal Byond.... But you need to remember, once you change to Byond, HD Fees which is RM20 per month is compulsary and you will be "tight" with one year contract with Astro....

You better call them for further clarification....

"If you wish not to use the recording functionality, you shall provide Astro with a minimum One (1) month prior written notice and Astro shall arrange for the collection of the Astro B.yond PVR and its Accessories and provide you with an Astro B.yond Box. If you fail to inform Astro, you shall continue to pay Astro for the monthly recording service fee up to the date of the collection of the Astro B.yond PVR. Please note that any existing recordings that you have made in your Astro B.yond PVR shall not be retrievable or transferable to another device. If later you choose to exchange and upgrade again to the Astro B.yond PVR, a prescribed retrieval fee and/or installation and set up charges will be payable by you to the authorized Astro installer."
*
Confirmed there is no contract for PVR. If you have HD subscription, you will still have to continue paying RM20 and complete the 1-yr contract using the normal B.yond Box instead of the PVR Box.

Thanks!
