as per the modem specs, yes runs on different band and frequency compared to the usual 3g usb modem.
*do correct me if I'm wrong.
so far from my experience at lot 10, the service is quite bad. Local speed is above 10M, but international speed to US is 1-3M and lag is terrible. Yet they still dare to promote online gaming with the xbox consoles for demo.
Local Speed? International speed?
At the end of the day, it is business for them.

I'm not a fan of Yes (you can check out my current issue with them on how they calculate their rebates in
YTL Yes Rebates: the ugly facts ... CAVEAT EMPTOR), but in terms of the quality of their broadband service, I think they are OK. The speeds are as you said, but closer to 3M for international, which is pretty usable. As for the lag, it is mainly a wireless technology issue, and all the wireless broadbands I have tried (Izzi, Maxis, DiGi, Yes) have equally poor latency. Please don't compare with wired broadband.
For those who value mobility above gaming performance, then wireless broadband tech like Yes is a better choice.
This is especially so for those who use low volumes of data (under 3 GB) which makes Yes a good choice... once above that threshold, it becomes non-sensical (as I found out the hard way).
Of course they should not be facing the congestion based on their billing system. Who would want to pay such a high bill while other ISP just charge a fix amount and the user does not need to worry how much they use if the package is unlimited.
I am not an online gamer, so the latency and pings does not matter for me.
