Voodoo JM9 is so far excellent on my DXJG4 firmware. I have just reflashed by Odin and batterystats isn't very mature yet but at least the values shown are impressive.
During an 8 hour idle sleep, the power consumption is only 2%. Wifi sleep policy set to Never. However no push mail set up yet. Feeds are once an hour. Smoothness? Yes. The phone is snappier. Harder to stress it to the point where it lags. Installing apps from market used to stop me from using the phone momentarily. Now the lag is negligible for small apps. Worse case is just a 0.5 second stutter. I think I found the right lagfix for Eclair. Until I change to Froyo, this shall be my configuration. |

No, not same. I cannot use Voodoo's kernel. My phone won't go to sleep and it uses 48% in one night. Only original SGS Voodoo kernel like Voodoo JM8 and JM9 works for my phone.

Mine is active with 2 accounts, Twitter and FB, set to poll every hour. My battery consumption has gone up double than before I installed Tweetdeck. But I m still using Tweetdeck despite it is a major battery life drainer, coz it is such a good app and since it is in beta I hope the full version will come out better on battery consumption. 1. It is different and have certain features Tweetdeck lack of, like trending and customizable themes. I like both actually.. |

QUOTE(kmrdeva @ Oct 27 2010, 11:11 AM) Too early to tell, but I don't really feel a big difference so far. I just didn't like voodoo (voodoo5 pre6) because it was a battery sucker on my phone. Yeh, Voodoo on default kernel was a battery sucker for me too. But strangely, the earlier betas - Voodoo 1 and 2 - were okay despite locking the CPU at a constant 1Ghz. Could just be my imagination. But I can tell you that the recovery mode options available under this 'universal lagfix kernel' is mind boggling!! I probably won't even need autokiller because lots of kernel tweaks/optimisations can be enabled from the recovery menu. Was there a discernible difference in terms of performance/power consumption? Reason I'm asking is that I'm on Voodoo JM8 and too darn lazy to move up to Voodoo JM9 unless there's a marked improvement.::SNIP:: I think I found the right lagfix for Eclair. Until I change to Froyo, this shall be my configuration. Also, I find that games like Abduction which use the sensor will not properly disable the sensor after exiting. This is a huge power drain for me even on Voodoo JM8 as the sensor's running at 100% the whole time. I've only been able to fix this by reseting the phone. Weird. QUOTE(lch78 @ Oct 27 2010, 12:54 PM) I've identified a few battery sucking apps which I've either uninstalled or do not run at all, not sure if you guys agree:1. WhatsApp (lagged, delayed messages, sucked power, no way to disable) 2. Trillian (this was a real battery killer - I hate it now) 3. eBuddy (was always a battery killer) 4. To move from Voodoo JM8 to JM9, you don't need to disable the lagfix. Just directly flash the kernel over. That's what is mention in forum, but I did a full reset and flash. It has become a routine to use it to message to my friends. I use whatsapp much more often than SMS. I agree that WhatsApp is really awesome. I used it as an SMS/MMS replacement for a few weeks until messages got delayed sometimes by a day. Also encountered lags when sending messages. I dumped it for those very reasons. My friends who both own Desires complained of the delayed messages but they didn't experience any lags. No surprises right that the Desire performs way better than our SGS? Guess I can live without a constant stream of emails I meant centralized push like how BBM, Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare work on the BB platform - immediate notification, no stupid shit like polling every number of hours or so. Man, I really miss the superb notification features on my old (now dead) BB Curve 8900.. K-9 push mail on SGS works nearly 90% as well as the push mail on the BB, so no big issue for me... .. QUOTE(mengsuan @ Oct 27 2010, 03:28 PM) But the problem with MSN Talk is it is only if you have a msn account, if you have Yahoo then you need to install another App, i'm quite happy with Meebo actually but i do keep Ebuddy cos i dont mind using it once in a while altough it sucks battery life. Wish everyone can standardize and use Gtalk no have not tried Nimbuzz or Fring, actually downloaded Nimbuzz but when it ask for Register, i gave up, although it is free, i just do not want to register with so many IM apps but if someone can confirm that this 2 IM app you mentioned is worth trying i might change my mind This post has been edited by janov: Oct 27 2010, 03:45 PM |

I am not sure about Nimbuzz, but Fring and IMO is worth trying. Battery usage, I am not sure how these two compare to other IM apps.
I got both installed and now I am undecided to keep which. Added on October 27, 2010, 4:32 pmGood news I heard recently, Garmin and Asus are ending their partnership in Jan 2011. So I think we can expect to have Garmin soon on Android. This post has been edited by lch78: Oct 27 2010, 04:32 PM |
