QUOTE(ojp @ Oct 22 2010, 01:59 PM) Hi, I just brought my galaxy S to Samsung Service Center PJ as i noticed that when i tap on the chrome part near the volume button and noticed there is a tap sound and have some loosen touch feel. First of all, i would say their technician is not so technically well versed and with a bad attitude as well. They told me that every galaxy S also have this and asked me not to bother about it. (well we paid rm1699 for a device and you asking me not to bother ?) Then they brought out 1 galaxy S and show me that the device is exactly having the issue which i'm having. I'm asked them is it possible to check and replace the chrome part should there is a defect, they said its not possible cause the chrome part is comes together with the glass and Super AMOLED. Guys, could you all check whether your galaxy S also encountering this issue ? Thanks in advance. I feel the same on USB port area. Nothing that I can do. It's naturally like that. Maybe some elephant glue can fix your dissatisfaction.

I'm sticking to my plan. Not to Froyo until there is at least UK release.
I shall do z4mod but... how do I extract my current JG4 kernel?

I learned a new way to avoid lag. Lag fix will become slow gradually. Lag fix is not a necessity to speed up the phone. If you feel lag just move RFS to EXT2 by lag fix. Then when lag fixed phone lags, just undo lagfix to move EXT2 to RFS. The lag will be gone. Repeat this cycle until we get frozen froyo.
My observation so far.

QUOTE(silentser @ Oct 23 2010, 06:42 PM) which JG4 are you looking for (DXJG4, XXJG4)? and what are you going to do with it? as far as i know, only froyo firmwares need kernel to do rooting stuff, other than that never knew the use for kernel. rooting for 2.1 doesnt need the kernel Just default DXJG4 firmware. I want to do z4mod.

Thanks I'm downloading the kernel. I'll see if I can further modify the kernel to give more RAM for application. I'm going to try modify the shared memory amount.

No actually. LOL
I just try my ability.
Edit: I think zimage is already a compiled kernel. Doesn't seem to be modifiable except for using hex editor.

z4mod doesn't appear to support DXJG4. When zimage is uploaded for online patching, certain line regarding initramfs is not found/matched. Hmm, to get rid of RFS, it's probably Froyo. Owai- QUOTE Oh dear! Sorry about the online patcher not working for about a day. The patchbox was previously using /tmp, which was no good for space reasons. It was changed to use 'tmp' which had the nice effect of breaking a line of script. (z4ziggy didn't test it after changing! ) Anyway, it's all fixed up now, so go wild and patch your kernels again. I will try patching the kernel again. This post has been edited by mengsuan: Oct 24 2010, 02:26 AM

Yes, that is right. The rest of RM48 is for internet and is untouchable. And if you exceed the quota, you'll be charged more than the RM48.

QUOTE(noobie1 @ Oct 24 2010, 12:43 PM) does it?? last time i use adb to flash to froyo without any problem(with 3 button disable sgs of course)... Consider yourself very lucky. Often froyo upgrades will require cache clear from recovery menu otherwise the boot screen would just loop.

QUOTE(noobie1 @ Oct 24 2010, 12:49 PM) aint we still can go into recovery mode if we want to?? (after the white word then adb reboot recovery??) Boot loop only repeats the black and white screen. It doesn't reach the coloured Galaxy S logo. How can you use ADB when the phone doesn't boot entirely? Added on October 24, 2010, 1:02 pmQUOTE(emino @ Oct 24 2010, 12:47 PM) Finally got a broadband sim for my galaxy. I subscribed to the 3 gig day package for rm 30-something per month! Data-only SIM? QUOTE(angel-girl @ Oct 24 2010, 04:05 PM) which mean we will nvr fully utilized the 512 mb? No device can utilize all memory for application. Part of the memory is allocated for GPU and GSM capability. To put things right, the memory are in use but not available to you as user. This post has been edited by mengsuan: Oct 24 2010, 06:02 PM

I applied Voodoo Beta 4 kernel yesterday night right before I sleep. The phone and I was sleeping and untouched for 8 hours 14 minutes. When I woke up, 52% battery left from full. Reason, the phone shows running for 7h 57m.
My battery saving phone became super battery eater. Almost 50% in one night.

QUOTE(hihihehe @ Oct 25 2010, 11:29 AM) you can try it 1st..if there is a problem then u can try flash to km8 first then only jpm.. i got no problem flash from jm5 to jpm i got no problem with my battery.. applied voodoo pre 6 for jpm and only drain around 5-7% of battery for around 8-10 hours of sleep and of coz, with wifi always on and live wallpaper Voodoo Pre 6 is almost a complete rewrite because Froyo needs a new approach. Voodoo Beta 4 is just somewhat still buggy and not satisfying. However I am impressed with the sharpness and colour of the screen. It also supports extra low brightness settings in dark, but the colours are reddish.
