Quick question, the Alpha lens 50mm f1.4 cost RM1299, and the CZ 85mm f1.4 cost RM5999....both at f1.4 but the price so much difference? Does the quality justify the premium price for the CZ lens?

google for the photo taken by these two lenses and you will know the difference...

Added on November 4, 2010, 12:06 pmanyway, anyone how much is the skyler minicam stabilizer?

Actually, Zeiss lenses are nothing special ler... just that it's normally razor sharp, has excellent contrast and brings out colors better than most lenses. Then they go and put the T* coating on them.. dunno lar.. maybe can cut flare better gua.... Like that lor... not much special...

Hahahahaha....

Colors, contrast and bokeh on Carl Zeiss makes a huge difference in quality, I try the sample of this and then bring back home for post processing, the color is really nice and no need so much tweak of curve contrast xD ....

Meanwhile I believe the specialty is in bokeh as, I realize its bokeh IQ really outstanding!!

wingster : Zeiss bokeh are not really the best out there lar... the bokeh crown still goes to the STF!!!

Heard that the Minolta 35mm G also has great bokeh. The Minolta 85mm prime also got great bokeh. Zeiss bokeh is so-so lar. Zeiss is known more for their sharpness, resolving power, contrast and color.

Why are you so confident on this? I saw the Zeiss has nice bokeh also and if not mistaken the Zeiss 135mm is also STF rite tongue.gif ... of course not all the Zeiss formula lens has nice bokeh since there are several types of it

Yeah of cos the CZ lenses are a class above the normal Alpha lenses, just that HUGE premium that we need to fork out which is a problem..haha..in fact I agree with shootkk, STF's bokeh rocks!
oh well, I guess CZ lenses can only remain as a dream for now haha.
evilhomura89 thanks for the link! really helps!

STF is the one and only 135mm f2.8 (T4.5).
the CZ 135mm is f/1.8

Zeiss is specialized in making the lens all in one ++ (sharp, color, distortions, etc)
the STF is specialized in bokeh .
those two have different purposes lens la smile.gif

if compare the 135mm STF @f2.8 and CZ135 @f/2.8 sure got different, not fair to compare f/2.8 to f/1.8

curi pinjam from other forum

im trying to find the big big pic to compare, but this one already show enuff nod.gif

what i see is the CZ 135mm has circular aperture like (does it ?) , the bokeh is bulat bulat . but the STF is just blurrRRRR

wingster : I'm confident that the STF pwns all is because Minolta built the STF specifically so that it can render out of this world bokeh.

All other lens maker, Zeiss included, build lenses for sharpness, contrast, etc. If Zeiss had to choose between increasing sharpness or pleasing bokeh, they will go for sharpness and sacrifice bokeh in a blink of an eye.

Try comparing the Minolta's 85mm prime's bokeh with the Zeiss 85mm. You will find that both are not that much different. So to say Zeiss is known for their bokeh is not really accurate.

hmm..just read from canon thread that the main reason for 1dmk4 not going full frame is because it will result in ghosting when shooting at 10fps.

wonder will the translucent mirror will solve this problem? hmm.gif

@mastering89

I think the round bokeh is just distracting users from the subject. If you can see, your eyes catch STF's flower faster than others because the bokeh is not distracting..

and for the STF its actually F4.5, not f2.8 as you lose about 1 1/3 f-stops for the effects

Actually, you guys can make that bokeh by using Photoshop..

Filter > Blur > Lens Blur.

You can select bokeh shape, radius, blade curvature and rotation.

I always do this previously when my bokeh from prime is distracting user from catching the subject

destfull : No, no. The STF's aperture is at f2.8 but the light transmission that actually gets to the sensor is at f4.5

This is because the STF has an apodization filter to get the bokeh.

If you guys wanna know what good bokeh is, look at the top left hand corner of mastering89's series of pics. See that solitary light spot there? The STF renders it without any sharp edges and transitions smoothly from the light tones to the darker tones. On the other lenses, it gets a clear circle and stands out clearly from the dark background.

Saw you kena trolled there newayz lol >">

Swts. I doubt there is any SLT that will use OVF lo. EVF is the new breakthrough in camera tech since we moved from film to digital. Doubt they are gonna drop EVF lol. Anyway, try snapping 10 fps with SLT and see the results lo. Does not mean you have to buy one lol.

If you had read review from various source, some reviewer DID mentioned about A55 having ghosting issues but negligible. I can't remember where I read it.
