QUOTE(ccak_cbeng @ Oct 18 2010, 02:17 AM) which one is better?? a55 or a550 ?? if u wanna compare, i think a55 should be compared to a580 instead of a550 since a55 n a580 are using the same sensor

interesting news here - http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sony-a55-ha...80p-at-4860fps/if only sony could release it for us in firmware instead of relying on hacks to get the best out of it

QUOTE(~Seventeen~ @ Oct 19 2010, 11:47 PM) really?? cant get much info on web. duno which 1 to get a55 or a580 QUOTE There are a number of features that make the a580 stand out over a Canon or Nikon of the same price-class:
1. Great Live-view: can switch easily between it and regular OVF, way better than Canon or Nikon cameras
2. Auto HDR and low-light multiple image processing -- camera processes jpegs in a way that allows you to take great shots in the most difficult lighting situations (only with Sony). This is a tool that makes a difference in photo technique and quality that can't be underestimated. 3, Sweep Panaorama -- while this may be a rarely-used functionality, it's fun
4. In-body image stabilization: the others stabilize some of their individual lenses, making them more expensive and heavier, while Sony can stabilize ALL lenses including primes and the older Minolta lenses (Sony bought Minolta around 2005 and continues to use the same lens mount...).
The a580 has an articulated screen that allows you to take overhead shots or ground-level shots with perfect composition (and without having to get down on your belly) -- no "shooting blind" on these.
Also, Sony has come up to par with Canon and Nikon in giving very good high ISO image quality, so there's no longer (as with the a2xx and a3xx series) a gap there. The video of the a580 is at least on par with Canon and Nikon.
Finally, given the legacy of Minolta lenses as well as the newer Sony additions, there is a line-up of lenses that would leave little or no gaps in what you might want compared to the lists of Canon and Nikon lenses.
Now, comparing the a55 to the a580, the technology is different. All other cameras have a mirror that flips out of the way so the sensor can receive the light -- the a55 has a fixed, "translucent" mirror that allows 70% of the light to pass through to the sensor. Sony has calibrated the ISO to the light passage to the sensor so that you get the same exposure readings as with a normal DSLR. The benefit of this technology if continuous auto focus readings by the a55 sensor, which makes for the only camera (with the a33 too) that can continuously focus while shooting video. It also allows for 10 fps in shooting stills, something that only a $5,000+ Canon or Nikon can do (but in a $750 body); the a580 can do 7, which is plenty for most people. The a55 is also about 30% smaller and lighter in the handling.
It all comes down to whether the features of the a55 and its size/handling appeal to you more. Both it and the a580 are outstanding choices.

Does unfilled warranty card means the warranty period won't start until you actually filled it in and send it back to the respective companies? I keep seeing ppl posting in camera sales thread..camera is barely used but it's been a few months since the day it left the shop, but warranty card remained unfilled and they claimed that warranty is one full year, is that true? I saw that a few times already...
