hey guys.. new ubuntu user here..
i installed ubuntu last night as i was getting pretty pissed with vista (bugs and some driver issues)

anyways after i installed the latest ubuntu 8.04 LTS my pc was fine the desktop everything was fine.. .
then i went to SYSTEM >> ADMINISTRATION >> HARDWARE DRIVERS and i installed what it told me to install.. after i installed the recommended display card driver.. and restarted the pc... my screen became pixelated and crappy.. with like some boxes in the middle and here and there... sort of like the screen became blur la.. so then i uninstalled the driver and restarted the pc.. .after that its all back to normal..

what happened?

EDIT: using NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Your NIC not supported perhaps. Get old 3com, AMD lance or intel e100 card. RM10 can get already!

do

$lspci

see whether ubuntu recognize your card or not!

Run lsmod | grep forcedeth and check for an output. If there's no output, run sudo modprobe -v forcedeth and run sudo ifconfig eth0 up. Then verify whether eth0 appears in ifconfig's output.
