u can try this:
1) open "terminal"
2) "sudo apt-cache search vlc"
2) if result got vlc, type this "sudo apt-get install vlc"

Yes ubuntu does support chinese character, go to System> Administration > language support> install chinese and set ur default language to chinese

Guys, I installed Feisty Fawn on my P4/1GB RAM/ATI 9250 AGP/17" LCD and I only get 1024x768 resolution. Best resolution for my 17" LCD is 1280x1024 and I've follows some guides from uBuntu forums still cannot obtain that resolution. Help!

Well, creating local repo is not something that we can get to do often, but it is a good idea though.
Maybe you can refer here.

Find your monitor HorizSync and VertRefresh and put the correct value into your xorg.conf
If you don't know your monitor HorizSync and VertRefresh, try google it or put the same value as showing below

p/s: backup ur xorg.conf first be4 doing any changes

CODE

Section "Monitor"
   Identifier    "CM752ET"
   HorizSync     31-101

From my experience, it'd due to heavy use of flash ads on lowyat (not blaming lowyat biggrin.gif ) + some sort of kernel bug.

hey guys,

i've recently installed feisty and found that it'll hang everytime whenever there's a screen saver. I wonder if any of you have met such problem?

here's my spec
amd athlon 2800
768 mb ram
ati radeon 9200se

I've wondered if it's the graphic card problem but i've search around they do have such problem too.. but i can't find any well rounded solution for this... so just give a try here...

btw, I've tried installing beryl.. it failed too.. the same problem arise as i boot into linux.. got lazy of it so re install the whole os...

im kinda new to ubuntu as well. but make sure you have instlled the ATI proprietary drivers. everything i learnt fixed was through http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty and ubuntuforums. getting compiz/beryl to work with ati cards is a bit tricky. but i found it on the forums. have to enable an XGL boot

does your computer go into standby/hibernate during the screensaver? cause thats not a graphics card problem. has to do with power management or something
