My Lenovo N100 laptop used to have sound under Ubuntu Edgy Then I installed Mplayer and it has been silent since.
There is sound in XP but none in Linux. I even reinstalled the sound drivers but nothing.
Has anyone experienced this? Any fixes welcome!

Added on February 11, 2007, 5:31 pmFixed! I just had to play a song in Mplayer and that seems to have activated sound in everything else.

I noticed if my cpu(s) are using OnDemand frequency scaling then my laptop hangs when suspending.
I know I have to set them to PowerSave in the ACPI scripts but I don't know where to put the commands.
I have Ubuntu Edgy on a Lenovo N100. Help!

------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, I found where to put the commands. Just create a file in /etc/acpi/resume.d/ and key in the commands.

have you tried Synaptic Package Manager? It's easy to add repositories to Synaptic and you can browse around to see if Mplayer is listed.
Some software is easier to install from the GUI and some better by apt-get, from my experience :-)

After upgrading to Feisty on my Lenovo N100, the screensaver won't start.
Also the laptop won't go to sleep after 1 hour as I have set.
What can I do?

Solved the sleep problem. Turns out, after waking, the keyboard generates some rubbish text that keeps going and going. This prevents the power saving features from kicking in.
Needed to rebind the keyboard with some extra resume.d and suspend.d scripts.
