Hi guys, I will be going for an interview for internship placement with some firm this coming friday. The position that they are offering me is audit vacation trainee. So, if they ask me question like "why should I hire you?", how should I answer it? This is because:

1. I have not even touched audit subject in my studies yet, it will be on my final year.

2. This is my very first interview, no experience whatsoever and I'm quite nervous to be honest.
*
I dont think they would ask "why hire u" when you are in internship placement.

Just prepare yourself, and answer to the best of your ability.

Just dont end up "uh ... ah ... dunno lol ... not sure ... no idea ..."

1. if the job is similiar then you can judge what to avoid saying. for example, if both jobs similar, then things like "no career prospect/routine work/cannot learn much" would also apply to the new job and most interviewer would immediately not consider you anymore because you wont be happy here.

2. an example would be that you are interested to work in this industry/job description and your skills are matching/you believe you can add value/able to excel/got chicks plenty of reasons.

+2 .. From my experience the 2nd interview mostly by dept head. So expect most of questions are on the technical side of the job.

Good Luck!  thumbup.gif

i would think otherwise. HOD usually management and strategy rather than on details/technical. thats their job.

Thats what I thought too, its difficult to answer question no.1 I once gave answer 'no career prospect and also cannot learn much' through phone interview. Either way thank you very much biggrin.gif

Went for an interview 2 days ago. I was asked to fill in expected salary in application form. Since I am fresh grad, I don't know about the salary range, so I just write out the salary based on what my senior told me. Then the interviewer asked me why I put this figure, I just answer him that my senior who work in this region told me that this area salary like around this range. As I know, fresh grad can't request for the salary, is the company fix it right? So in the case, what should I do when facing this situation? Any advice smile.gif ?

There's the salary guide report in the salary discussion thread, maybe you can have a look at that.
Best would be to see if you can chat with some of the staff at the company to know what range would be suitable.

As a fresh graduate, it's not advisable to demand for a specific salary. Usually companies have specific pay scales for freshies and it's most probably going to be applied across the board. If you're asked the question on salary expectations, say what you have gathered from your research and then turn it around on the interviewer to ask how much they are willing to pay for this particular position. It shows that you're also considering the other side of the table as well and not just your side. It's wise to be well informed on the salary range you can expect, to avoid being shortchanged.

Hi, I'm going to have an interview on next week.
From the previous experience of interview, I came across these question and I don't know what to answer as to give a good impression to the interviewer.

1. How do you do well in your exam? (I'm taking professional qualification exam - ACCA and I failed quite many times)
- I straightly said failed quite few times........= =

2. How long would you work with us? Because train a staff is not easy.....

3. What should be done if I don't know the answer of some technical question

Help!

Thank you...This is really helpful...hahaha....I got this question asked frequently...

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Normally i'll tell them about my plans and I make sure my plans wun venture away from the job I am applying or makes them sound like I'll juz be working with them in short term....

Is this the proper way?

Really useful. Among these frequently asked questions, I really don't like the one "tell me about yourself", which I also consider the easiest but also the most difficult one to answer.

1) You can talk about what is the most important aspect of studying (in your own opinion). Which way works best for you, perhaps memorising works best for you? Or you need to study in an extremely quiet environment. Using myself as an example, i always do study planning 1 month ahead of exam and follow through my study plan without fail. That would ensure that I can revise all the chapters on time and concurrently I do not sacrifice my resting time, as having enough rest ensure that I can perform 100% in exams.

2) "I'm happy to stay for as long as there is still space for me to grow within the organisation." <--Generic answers =x

3) I believe the best way is to admit that you don't know. In terms of technical question, it's either Yes or No, there's no answers in between. You could go with "I'm sorry but i'm not too sure about it. However, i see myself as a fast-learner and I'm confident that I can picked up the knowledge during work/ would definitely equip myself with that knowledge before i join the organisation"

The purpose is to gauge your presentation skills. Although you had already planned how to handle try not to do it too fluently. Have a good intro but make it look like you are thinking out as you speak. Go briefly but deliver it like train on the on the content (summarised educaton, employement, and family back ground if you like). For the conclusion (3-4 sentences to sell yourself) deliver it with the finesse of a well groom public speaker.

For engineers to be, from recent interviews interviewers are consistent on these two things:

1. FYP. Reason: They want to know what skills u learn from the project and how u handle that project.
Strategy: If it ur project, advantage to u since u know the inside out of that project. If not, at least check the manual or ask other people how it works.

2. Most remembered uni activity. Reason: To know how well u work in a team, how well u handle stress and confrontation.
Strategy: If it is a real experience with "painful" memories, try to use positive words. Dont lie and at least said u learn a lot from that experience. If it leadership position, tell them how is ur management style. If u r just a normal member, tell how your effort make profit for the team

If u dont join any activities, u r f up. Just try to pick any assignment or groupwork in ur course that need a team and describe your contribution.

you should also give answers to yours intangible attitude during interview. first impression is last impression. so you learn how to enter in the room? how to sit in chair? yours eyes contact with interviewer are the most important factor. If this things will be on right way, it creates good image in the mind of employer.

Currently I'm in IT line. I got a next coming interview with Touch and Go next week. To be prepare, every time I went for interview, sure there is a question of "How are you going to add value to the company if you're hired".

I know there is a lot of sifus over here... How am I going to answer this, and the company is Touch and Go.

I just got a job quite recently and it is all boils down to selling yourself in terms of confidence. Being prepared is definitely a must but do not be too "computer-like". The questions that I got was:

1. Introduce yourself?
2. Why do you choose this field?
3. Now can you tell me what value can you contribute to the company?
4. What are your 5 strengths?
5. What are your 5 weakness?
6. What makes you different from other people?

I guess questions do vary across different companies but it boils down to the confidence you can project to people and make them decide that you are the one I am looking for.
