I see. Thanks for the info.

Btw, Kingston hyperX XMP profile actually calls for 1.7 VTT  sweat.gif

Yupe as i've recalled. I believe this is not for 24/7 on passive cooling ie stock VRM heatsink. 45nm chips can take it but not for mobo VRM. You might end up with CPU throttling once the VRM temp reaches its limit of ~85C+. Note that there are several other rams with XMP VTT 1.6v but nobody is going to put this just because their mobo cant take the heat biggrin.gif.

Kinda wasted actually, DDR2000 can only run at DDR1691 on my board, kinda pity.
But then again, CPU speed is most important smile.gif

u measured the wattage ?
what PSU, what setup, what oc u use and how much juice it requires ?

naahh didnt measure the wattage.. just measure the spinning gasing(meter) outside the house like very fast lol plus the bill came in every month very hot too sweat.gif lol

am using ax1200, r3e, i7950. oc to 4.2ghz with 1.28v iinm. forget oledi.

anyway didnt need that much power for my daily internet surfing and sc2 doh.gif
last time hands were so itchy want to do this want to do that.. now regret having overkill pc hahahah

However, when i tried overclocking it to 4Ghz (200x20), it would crash within first 10min of prime. I have tried increasing the vCore to as high as 1.375 but without much success.
The BSOD code i got is 0X050, 0X04E and some other weird 2 digits error.
Pls shed some light on my situation. Thx.

Probably ram related error...try using a slower speed...less strain on the IMC and can pin point if cpu not stable at 1.375v

I ran once O/C vs stock consumption on my setup:

-i7 920
-R2E
-3 x 1600Mhz DDR3 C7 1.72v (IMC always at 1.425v)
-Seasonic 850W
-5970
-x6 HDD
-1xSSD

at 4.0ghz vs 2.66, the Arlec wattage meter I had showed just a mere <30w increase making the total around 280-300 at idle, at 2.66 idle was around 250-270 watts...

but when I swapped GPU from 5970 to the 4850, my idle went as low as 170W-190W (2.66) and 200-220 (4.0ghz)

so yah...no point save power on CPU...wanna save power...get a lesser GPU laugh.gif

aahhh then maybe my twin gtx480 are the one eating up the juice too much lol... but they are on stock speed.

1x gtc480 vs 5970 at idle on my setup is...i dunno how to soften the blow so I just cut to the chase....

Its the same idling wattage cry.gif

That GTX480 is a power sucker & a failed Fermi.
Stock bloomfield ~ 130w, OCed to 4GHz ~ 230w
OCing ram wont cause significant difference in power consumption.

PS: Lol j_petrucci used wrong dupe acc to reply.

some question

i got i7 920 stable oc 3.8ghz 1.3v

then i read the guide it say after got stable oc, can re-enable back eist and c1e. i got it good now.

try run prime again seems like everything good.

so is this good or got tradeoff somewhere? after that stable oc, then enable back that function, it wont hurt the oc right?

need to understand what is EIST: HERE
when u enable EIST etc the CPU will downclock during idle.
you will get back the OC speed during load.

Hey guys, I'm running i7 920 d0 on ecs x58b-a2 board. My question is, after I overclock it (I'm kinda new, this is my first time oc'ing) , i manage to make it go up to 3.2ghz(not stable) and 3.0ghz (stable), my idle temperature is 60c and on load around 80c, currently using v8 cooler master. Is the temperature normal? if so, anyone has any guides on the mobo regarding oc'ing. Tried googling the net, but not much people out there using the same brand.

this is my setting on bios

cpu freq - 150
ratio 20

cpu volt 1.31875v
cpu vtt volt +0.052v
speed spectrum disabled

the rest set to disabled/default

advice?

edit

managed to get it stablize for now at 3.6ghz with this settings

Performance level: Standard
DRAM Frequency: 800mhz
Uncore: 1600
Configure DRAM Timing by SPD: Enabled
CPU Over-clocking Function: Enabled
CPU Over-clocking Frequency: 180
PCIE Over-Clocking Function: Disabled
Ratio CMOS Setting: 20
Auto Detect DIMM/PCI Clk: Enabled
QPI Frequency Auto detect: Disabled
QPI Frequency: 4.800gt
Spread Spectrum: Disabled
CPU Voltage: 1.25000v
IOH Voltage: +0132v
CPU VTT Voltage: +0.325v
DIMM Voltage: +0.150v
SB Voltage: Disabled

trying to get to 4.0ghz but waiting for anyone to give some advice first.

idle at 66c , with intelburn at high, 88c

Since u already fiddle wif the voltage, it's up to u to test it out. I juz give sum advice bout my o/c usually I try to affix to 200 fsb b4 anything else. If the mobo pass at that fsb then I juz slowly up the multi till 20 or 21 for 4ghz or 4.2ghz.

Ur processor is d0 so should be able to handle 1.2 or 1.3 for max 4ghz. So far most of the d0 I tried easily go up till 4ghz wif a good mobo. Problem usually is to fine tune and stability. Some processor do need 1.35 or 1.4 for better stability.

Ur temps is on normal room temp without a/c rite ? going 88'c is quite scary and tryin to hit a certain mhz compared to the temp is really not a good mixture. I usually o/c according to the room temp, if i got a/c I usually go 4ghz or higher if needed. But usually without o/c I down clk till 2.4 or 2.2 depends on ur processor vcore can go till 0.99 or even 0.90. Very good for power saving. tongue.gif

Do note, since ur running v8 it should be considered one of the best edy, so next step might be wc.
