Since u already fiddle wif the voltage, it's up to u to test it out. I juz give sum advice bout my o/c usually I try to affix to 200 fsb b4 anything else. If the mobo pass at that fsb then I juz slowly up the multi till 20 or 21 for 4ghz or 4.2ghz.

Ur processor is d0 so should be able to handle 1.2 or 1.3 for max 4ghz. So far most of the d0 I tried easily go up till 4ghz wif a good mobo. Problem usually is to fine tune and stability. Some processor do need 1.35 or 1.4 for better stability.

Ur temps is on normal room temp without a/c rite ? going 88'c is quite scary and tryin to hit a certain mhz compared to the temp is really not a good mixture. I usually o/c according to the room temp, if i got a/c I usually go 4ghz or higher if needed. But usually without o/c I down clk till 2.4 or 2.2 depends on ur processor vcore can go till 0.99 or even 0.90. Very good for power saving.  tongue.gif

Do note, since ur running v8 it should be considered one of the best edy, so next step might be wc.
I bring down the volt to 1.13-ish (forgot the exact number) but there is not much difference in the temp. sad part is i can only run my ram at 800mhz. Any advice where I do wrong? If i change it to 1066, it will boot till window then it just restart or if not blue screen. 1333 well, it just wont start. lol.

Try to reduce ur qpi to 3600 1st if can, then use lower multi and try to raise ur fsb till 200 then once ur stable at 200 fsb then slowly up ur multi till 18 or 20. Ur memory is quite low 800 ? That's ddr2 speeds edi i think. 1066 also is ddr2. U should at least be running 1333. Is ur room very hot ? Or mebe ur processor itself is not a good batch ? I know my costa rica 950 is quite high at low clock as it's always around 4x even with w/c and air con. Where as my malay i7 920 d0 and 930 easily maintain 35-38 max wif the same exact casing and cooler during idle. But funny part is the max temp is quite stable which is 65 - 70 max in air con and w/c around 4ghz and 4.2. Both max temps r almost similiar for costa rica and malay.

my room is very hot actually. but i guess i can leave with lower cpu speed for now as long as its not hard, i downclock it back to 3.0ghz from 3.6ghz, used default on everything but vcore, which is at 1.18xx volt (forgot the exact number) , and running on 1066 ram speed. I tried on 3.4, it works, but its not stable at all. i had to lower my ram to 800 to make it work. I need to know what i need to adjust in order to get 1333 or 1600 ram speed respectively (or at least make mine run at 3.6ghz without sacrificing my ram to be downclocked at 800mhz. Yes i know this sound like a noob-ish question, but I'm really new in oc field, but i would love to see some positive numbers result, been resetting my cmos like nobodies business for few hours just to fiddle the correct setting. Thanks for the reply in advance smile.gif

how bout your uncore? try to make it (memory speed x 2) + 1

If i got more experience wifur mobo mebe icould recommend sum settings but for now u need to keepon trying. Mebeucanpost sum cpuz pics ? Memory at 800 really hurting ur performance, mebe ur runing 1600 just diff mobo diff way of reporting it ? Cpuz got memory u can confirm wat timing n clock u r running. Sum mobo use divider while sum show clk rate.f

I believe there are still a plenty of X58 mobo in the market. Go to hardwarezone malaysia portal
and download the price lists.

Hi there...maybe it is a bit late to ask now after this thread had been idle for so long...but i do have some queries when overclocking my X58 system...

as u see my rig below, with my good old i7 930 clocked at 3.5Ghz~~what do u think is the appropriate DRAM Voltage?

As according to CPU-Z, the ram should be capable of running at 1.65V, but when i tweak the RAM above 1.3000 V, the indicator turns yellow..and anything above 1.4V it shows purple/red indicator..therefore the DRAM voltage ended up at 1.3V @1600Mhz

The reason why i am asking this is becoz i have been experiencing blue screen problem kinda often~~i was wondering if it is due to the overclock i did on my system...

Hope to hear from you soon...

First of all are you sure that's the DRAM voltage and not VTT aka QPI/DRAM Voltage or vCore?
Any RAM that's rated at (1.5-1.65)v will work on X58 platform.
A screenshot would be helpful.

As for blue screen of death (BSOD) please refer to the codes for determining the problem.
QUOTE
0x101 = increase vcore
0x124 = increase vcore
0x0A = unstable RAM/IMC, increase QPI first, if that doesn't work increase vcore
0x1E = increase vcore
0x3B = increase vcore
0x3D = increase vcore
0xD1 = QPI/VTT, increase/decrease as necessary, can also be unstable Ram, raise Ram voltage
0x9C = QPI/VTT most likely, but increasing vcore has helped in some instances
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency or uncore multi unstable, increase RAM voltage or adjust QPI/VTT, or lower uncore if you're higher than 2x
0x109 = Not enough or too Much memory voltage
0x116 = Low IOH (NB) voltage, GPU issue (most common when running multi-GPU/overclocking GPU)
0x7E = Corrupted OS file, possibly from overclocking. Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r

QUOTE
1) Click "Start," type "Event Viewer" into the search box and then click "Event Viewer" in the search results. The Event Viewer will open.
2) Double-click "Windows Logs" in the pane on the left and click "Application," "System" or "Security." Microsoft provides information on what types of logs appear in each category (see Resources). If you have see a folder in the left pane called "Custom Views," double-click it and then click "Administrative Events."
3) Double-click any event in the pane on the right to view details about the event. Blue screen errors will be listed as "Error.

QUOTE
Sometimes, when Error Reporting is enabled, the dump files will be stored temporarily on your system and are erased once the report is sent. To save this info, you'll have to copy the dump file before sending the report. To do this, just click on the "Details" link in the error report and you'll see some file locations listed. Choose the one that ends in .dmp or .mdmp, locate it in Windows Explorer, and copy it to your Desktop (you'll have to enable viewing of hidden files to do this). Here's an example of the Details:

    ERROR REPORT CONTENTS - the following files will be included in this error report
    C:\DOCUME~ 1\Owner\ LOCALS~1\Temp\WER7fde.dir00\Mini112706-02.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER7fde.dir00\sysdata.xml

To spot right away on the screen, BSOD code 124 should look like this indicating insufficient VTT or vCore.

First of all, will you get this F4 BSOD if not overclocked?

QUOTE
BCCode: F4    0x000000F4

Check and reseat all cards, memory and cables (on both ends when possible) actually remove and
replace - do not just snug. On a laptop about all you can do is reseat the memory and possibly check
the contacts/connection to the hard drive. Memory could be the problem so if you have more than 1
stick swap them in and out to see if the problem follows one stick or try new memory. Antivirus/anti-
spyware/security programs have been known to cause or have a role in this issue.

Most general fix is updating drivers, BIOS, and low level chipset drivers and other control software.
Also check cabling to hard disk.

It could be an SSD firmware issues since I saw you are using a Sandforce based SSD.
o the cause has been identified as a sandyforce controller in the ssd its self since i tried it with the jmicron sata 3 controller and the intel sata2 controller with the same symptoms. vast amounts of people have stability issues with sandyforce ssd's (the corsair 120gig ones were recalled)

corsair say the fix is flashing the firmware of the drive (which i have completed successfuly and booted fine in sata 3) but if it bsods once more the drive is getting rma'd.

if anyone else is having similar symptoms (the key here is after the bsod you have to manually power down, restart and re select the ssd as the boot drive in the bios because otherwise it mysteriously goes missing from your boot options) then flash to firmware 1.3.2 which you can download from corsair forums.

also from what i have been reading in LOTS of forums is to stay away from marvel controllers if using a ssd. the 2010 driver is the most recent (lol) and the corsair moderators have had plenty of issues.

consider this fixed

Try doing a power cycle of the SSD. The following steps should be carried out and take ~1 hour to complete.

    Power off the system.
    Remove all power supplies (ac adapter then battery for laptop, ac adapter for desktop)
    Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and drain all components of power.
    Reconnect all power supplies (battery then ac adapter for laptop, ac adapter for desktop)
    Turn on the system and enter the BIOS (see your manual for the steps to enter the BIOS)
    Let the computer remain in the BIOS for 20 minutes.
    Follow steps 1-3 and physically remove the SSD from the system by disconnecting the cables for a desktop or disconnecting the drive from the junction for a laptop.
    Leave the drive disconnected for 30 seconds to let all power drain from it.
    Replace the drive connection(s) and then do steps 4-8 again.
    Repeat steps 1-4.
    Start your computer normally and run Windows.

thanks for the brilliant info given to me~~
i think i found out the problem~~it is an SSD related issue..
i have updated my Marvell firmware from 1.0.0.1034 to 1.2.0.1002 at the link below:-

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOT...ort_Download_30

It has been 2 days since and i have not experienced any F4 BSOD problem~~until it happened again i shall post an update here..

I have also checked the performance of my SSD by using ATTO Bench, seems like it performed much better at the start of the test (more than doubled of performance) and stabler so far...a must have update for Sabertooth X58 user if you are using SSD

Just to follow up...more than a week after i updated the Marvell Driver and it runs stable now without any blue screen problem.. the update also improves small file reading speed significantly~

However, if u are having a 500mb+ read/write speed SSD (e.g. Kingston HyperX 3K), u cannot run it at max speed under X58's Marvell Controller

There's no other controller can beat Intel just for sure. Their P67/Z68/Z77 are awesome, but slightly inefficient with X79.

Sounds like a degrading IMC or wrong bios settings especially those related to RAM. If that's the case you would see "6GB RAM installed (4GB useable) in System Properties in windows.

Try upping VTT voltage.
