No worries the 990X is still the King of the Hill atm.. 6 cores 12 threads FTW!
When u still didnt manage to clock ur proc to 4.5Ghz, u're still in the game. ur mission is not accomplished yet!

R2E ppl...

do you guys ever encounter problems with the onboard LAN whenever you are on serious overclock settings???

I don't mean those tiny voltage increaments, I mean those >4.0ghz or those >1700mhz with >3400mhz uncore...

this is the thing that happens...previously everything is a-ok but as soon as I load my 4.0ghz settings, LAN becomes unstable...games DC whole night on me, FTP disconnected and slightly slow internet connection...is not slow in terms of the connection, its slow to 'start' the connection...once I entered a url and hit enter, i takes a second or two (maybe up to 5) before it starts loading up...

If stock, no problem..

another thing is, if I hook up fans on the 3-pin header next to the second LAN port, the port becomes unstable...symptoms as aforementioned...

Does anyone ever experience such problems, even not specifically on R2E...

Just woke up and check memtest test 8, and BAM!!!

everything is OK! 3600MHz uncore with 1800MHz ram

CPU at 2700MHz (not yet set to 4GHz)

Now I'm LINX'ing and will start online gaming once it passes all 200 times...

If still the onboard LAN becomes crazy, I'll have to go and buy a PCI/PCIe LAN...

Attached is my settings....

i think u need a better RAM rated @ 1.65v
*
Now....or just 3 hours before, I started LinX with a little bump of QPI voltage...like 0.3 more...as you can see from the pic, the QPI Voltage is now 1.42v

still kicking ok.... rclxm9.gif

well done antonio
yupe u need a good combo of vdimm and VTT to pass LinX
hook up another stick & let's see if it will be easy as this dual channel icon_idea.gif
*
but I only got 2 sticks tongue.gif

owh well...i think I just go back down to 1600...coz with that i only need like 1.2v QPI wink.gif

200mhz more and a wooping 2.2v extra!!! now worth it sad.gif

Last run...a slight bump on the QPI (0.25v) which makes a total of 1.45v for the system to be stable enough to run LinX at 3800MHz Uncore@ DDR1900..

Will save settings and load when i think i need to burn something tongue.gif

Gogo antonio!
Looks like u r addicted to LinX dy keke..
Side note on R3E is make sure that u dont disable the OCP or u gonna burn out the mobo in minutes.
*
no larrr...actually my rig has been stock for so longg...now time for some 'workout' and 'stretching'

by the way, mine is not R3E...its R2E...the famous 'need high QPI voltage to run DDR2000@4000MHz uncore, sometimes need 1v more compared to other' motherboard tongue.gif

and i'm on TRUE..so it won't be long till i hit the 'heat' wall or my room 'hot' wall... laugh.gif

Relax la bro, that only apply on stress time later in normal life, sure cant hit 95c..
Ive done few times stress & my i7 also reach such temp. but until now, it still kicking tongue.gif

But, your i7 voltage kinda high IMO. Mine 4.23Ghz need 1.312v only..

i've already set to 1.3v before the test...well...mebbe its the LLC doing its job tongue.gif

Can x58 run with 5 sticks of RAM?

Edit: I tested and it works. However, the x58 documentation does not include 5 module operation. Just in case someone needs the idea how to put the modules:

Three modules: 0-1-0-1-0-1
Four modules  : 1-1-0-1-0-1
Five modules  : 1-1-0-1-1-1 (NOT 1-1-1-1-0-1)

In 4 or 5 module operation, x58 will still operate in triple channel mode. Unlike some claims in forums that x58 will fallback to single/dual channel.

Board? Same size or different??

my rams probably reach today 4GB CVR x 3 probably reach today...so might poke it all to get 16GB tongue.gif

btw, nothing to do this morning... brows.gif

However, when i tried overclocking it to 4Ghz (200x20), it would crash within first 10min of prime. I have tried increasing the vCore to as high as 1.375 but without much success.
The BSOD code i got is 0X050, 0X04E and some other weird 2 digits error.
Pls shed some light on my situation. Thx.
*
Probably ram related error...try using a slower speed...less strain on the IMC and can pin point if cpu not stable at 1.375v

QUOTE(j_petrucci @ Jan 16 2012, 01:36 PM)
my gt can run 2000mhz c7-9-7-24 1.65v. but decided to run 1066 only coz cant take the amount of juice the oc was taking.. like f1 i might say lol
*
I ran once O/C vs stock consumption on my setup:

-i7 920
-R2E
-3 x 1600Mhz DDR3 C7 1.72v (IMC always at 1.425v)
-Seasonic 850W
-5970
-x6 HDD
-1xSSD

at 4.0ghz vs 2.66, the Arlec wattage meter I had showed just a mere <30w increase making the total around 280-300 at idle, at 2.66 idle was around 250-270 watts...

but when I swapped GPU from 5970 to the 4850, my idle went as low as 170W-190W (2.66) and 200-220 (4.0ghz)

so yah...no point save power on CPU...wanna save power...get a lesser GPU laugh.gif

aahhh then maybe my twin gtx480 are the one eating up the juice too much lol... but they are on stock speed.

1x gtc480 vs 5970 at idle on my setup is...i dunno how to soften the blow so I just cut to the chase....

Its the same idling wattage cry.gif
