QUOTE(kmarc @ Jan 30 2009, 10:38 PM) PCI-E frequency doesn't help overclocking in terms of speed. However, it was reported that some overclockers tweak the PCI-E frequency to achieve stability in extreme overclocking. Also reported that high PCI-E frequency can damage your rig e.g. more than 120mhz. eh...i saw ur guide how to oc C2D..(i actually follow ur guide to OC my e8400@3.6ghz..thanks btw For normal overclocking, it is advisable not to touch the PCI-E frequency. but u said "PCI EXPRESS FREQUENCY (MHz) - 100mhz((prefereable not to put auto)" i already set it 100mhz..did i have to put it auto back??help |

QUOTE(Kidz1995 @ Jan 31 2009, 11:41 PM) i oc e8400 abit more.. The increase would not be noticeable as the performance of games usually depends more on the graphic card rather than the processor. Furthermore, even if a game does rely on the processor, an increase of 100mhz is not much. You would only probably be able to see the difference if you run benchmarking programs that measure the fps....Multiplier 9x fsb 410mhz so 9x410 e8400@3.69ghz but when i tried to play crysis..i get the same fps..nothing improve..far cry 2 also.. did i have to put my fsb higher? Hmmm...my q9550 @ 3.4Ghz is perhaps a bit too hot at 74c after 15min small FFT.
vcore is @ 1.25v. Using a Xigmatek RS S1283 with AS5. Should i be looking at re-seating the cooler ? |

Should i be looking at re-seating the cooler ? I have no experience with the Q9000-series but maybe you didn't push the pushpins in properly? Or are you using the S&S? AS5 is kinda old.... better thermal paste available here are Tuniq TX-2 and AS MX-1/MX-2.... QUOTE(Kidz1995 @ Feb 1 2009, 12:55 PM) I've been away from the overclocking scene for some time now but as far as I know, the thermalright ultra 120 extreme (TRUE) and the IFX-14 are the best. They are however, quite expensive. The Xigmatek S1283 is a good price:performance cooler.... |

The best way to have a better temp is to lapped your heatsink n proc if u know how to do it, just like mine when i was using true n Q6600 my temp reach 70+ when prime but after i lapped my proc n heatsink the temp was 56-58c when prime, the real answer is either your heatsink n maybe your proc ihs is concave or convex.vcore is @ 1.25v. QUOTE(kmarc @ Feb 1 2009, 02:42 PM) Wow! That's hot! I'm using the retention kit, so my initial guess was that of proper ihs to hsf contact. the temps are uniform though (at idle the temps are 42c). Well, i might just take it out and re-do the fit when I have the time next weekend. Yeah, the AS5 is old, served me during my P4 Northwood days. Better than the stock paste I guess. I`m using a Zalman CPS9700, and with some cheap thermal paste I bought, my Q6600 never goes above 60c at full load with p95 on for around 2-3 hours at 3.6GHz..

???
u will have to prime it for a few hours to consider it as stable. its not just a matter of changing the bios settings and decide its stable when u can boot into windows. yes, it does take a lot of time. |
