When the big names underperform, it takes a big man to drop them in place of players who may not have as much ability or experience but have the heart and desire. If there is one thing I admire about Jose Mourinho, it's that he has no qualms dropping players who moan, complain or have a bad attitude despite of reputation. Would anyone dare drop Steven Gerrard? Anyway, the reason I brought this up is because of this sentence :-

QUOTE
It was a sign of the way things were going that when Spearing implored his team-mates to ''pick it up'' the call was heard all around a half-full Anfield, who responded with an encouraging round of applause.http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=307754&cc=4716

It's why I keep saying we need local lads in the team because no one will play harder than them. We need to find the next Jamie Carragher and Spearing has been earning accolades for some time now. A box-to-box midfielder himself, I see no reason he cannot displace Poulsen.

Yes Alonso and Arbeloa is very grateful to Liverpool for turning them into what they are today...I think if Madrid decided to sell either of them and Liverpool came back for them, they wouldn't hesitate to resign for us. tongue.gif

And for N'Gog, needless to say, he is a totally different player from last season. Terrific form!

Ngog is the top scorer for the team until so far this season.

delighted with the performance last night. making me late to work is worth it tongue.gif

so far the best display of the season. bit slow on the break at half time but kill it on the 2nd reina barely touch the ball. i wont single out cole for his good perfomance because the everyone else is good also. Meireles and Spearing control the game well. Meireles could be a winner signing for us.

i think RH should stick with the young boys for Europa on group stage.

watched the match last night.

joe cole was stand out from the rest.

meireles play his part well. maybe alonso replacement for future.

Kelly should play against manu to replace johnson.

Just not a good day for Babel and I think Lucas goal last night doesnt change anything the way we rated him before.

I don't mind having an aging Alonso in the team, he would still be a monster of a player. thumbup.gif

Managed to catch the highlights before going to work. Brilliant finishing by Joe Cole and nice long-range effort from Lucas. He never had that accuracy outside the box but Gerrard's seal of approval may have meant that some of Stevie G's magic has rubbed onto him. Lucas hasn't played well this season so far, but he's very much a 'confidence' player, hopefully this goal will lift his performance in the next match.

Judging on the lineup yesterday, we'll probably see the following lineup at Old Toilet:
Reina - Johnson - Carra - Skrtel - Konchesky/Agger - Poulsen - Lucas - Kuyt - Jovanovic - Gerrard - Torres

Expect a draw or an odd Stevie/Torres magic to snatch a narrow win.

kuyt still suffer with his injury. should be

reina
johnson carra skrtel konchesky
lucas gerrard
maxi cole jovanovic
torres

I beg to differ. Kelly had an ok game last night, but we still need Johnson's run and speed this sunday, Kelly looks a bit sluggish and he really is like carra playing at right back.

for me that night he looks really like Mascherano.. his tackle was almost perfect and you can see him putting pressure to the opponent when they are having the possession.

Maybe it is just me but I dont think Ngog is that great sweat.gif He might have scored 2 goals but I wouldnt say this is one of the best performance that he did for us. Not that he is having a bad game but he didnt manage to keep the ball occasionally no matters is from the above or below.

I remember he had a long spell of injury, imho it is Darby that looks more like a Carra Mk II. laugh.gif I forgotten which CL game was it, the one where he got injured. He had a really good game that day, bombing forward and defended well when tested (Except for the set-piece goal conceded).

Apparently his natural position is CB. He could prove to be a versatile addition.

Speaking of these youth, part of me was quite frustrated when Rafa was let go as his youth policy is slowly maturing. Players like N'gog, Insua and Kelly were slowly cementing their places in the squad with promising players like Ayala, Spearing, Pacheco getting the odd first-team appearance. This season we've seen a younger batch of players like Eccleston, Shelvey, Amoo who all impressed on the international stage. At first, I wasn't too happy with the appointment of Roy Hodgson who has been touted a journeyman manager but seeing that he has bed in youngsters so far is a positive sign. More of little Dani please! thumbup.gif
