Guys need your advice

I am seriously thinking of getting the Scirocco 1.4 TSI I simply love the way the car looks and after test driving it I am very impressed with the way it drives and am amazed with how much power VW has managed to extract from the 1.4 engine.

my dilemma however is that for another Rm20k more the Golf GTI is within reach!

Anyone can comment? - pros and cons for each car - what should I do???

@phas3r: sorry mate, didn't occur to me to snap a quick pic of the rear. will do so next time i pass by (since they're all parked outside, anyway).

@Max1979: i think that really depends on what you are looking for. you can easily remap the ECU and get golf GTI outputs without voiding the warranty; so you could easily save RM20k and get a golf TSI. that, or you could also easily do the same with the scirocco TSI.

Appreciate the response bro
I would love to get the Scirocco 2.0 as it is what I am looking for however I cannot justify and afford the premium being charged over the 1.4 TSI model - hence my dilemma in considering the golf GTI and Scirocco 1.4 TSI
To be frank I am not really a huge fan of the Mrk6 design, I prefer the more aggressive look of the Mrk 5 better, but it could grow on me especially if I'm getting a bit more bang for my buck in terms of performance
I have seen a few articles on remapping the ECU for the 1.4 TSI to boost torque and HP however I thought it would void the manufacturers warranty. Furthermore I have also read that the 7 speed DSG gearbox on the 1.4TSI is only rated to 250nm torque so by modifying it I could potentially run the real risk of messing up the gearbox?
Would really appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction so that I can confirm that by remapping the ECU I would not void the warranty

Anyone else have any other comments?

You can test drive the Scirocco at the VW showroom along Jalan Maarof Bangsar

Whats your feedback on the Golf GTI? I assume you have the Mrk 5?

Question is do you mind the 2 doors? Do you find it a hassle? Do you fetch many people often?
Regarding the ECU remap, some people say it void warranty and some people say don't. I am not sure myself. Did you mentioned this to your SA?
I am looking into the Roc 1.4 too, test driving it this week. smile.gif

Agreed, actually there more flaws:
1) Poor rear visibility
2) Passengers will feel claustrophobic due to small interior space
However, I can't resist the overall looks of the car, saving my comment on the drive later.

The ABT house is trying to get an agreement with VW Malaysia so that whatever mods that people get from their shop at Glenmarie would not void the warranty and this includes the Stage 1 upgrade to 190bhp.

Cergaz is setting up a mod centre within their complex for oettinger. Thus that will be the official authorised mod centre for them. So i believe at that point.. warranty shudn't b an issue ...

Nope I don't mind 2 doors - I actually have a BMW E38 728i that I am currently using as my daily driver. The issue is that I work in the city and I find that its a little too large for daily city driving. So I'm thinking of using the beemer as sort of a weekend/outstation/need to pick up people car whilst I get a daily driver that I can have a bit of fun with when I want to ie Scirocco 1.4 TSI or possibly the Golf GTI mrk 6.

My dilemma is that in view of the above - should I go the for the Scirocco 1.4 TSI or bite the bullet and for another Rm20k more go for the Golf GTI.

I have test driven the Rocco but they don't have a GTI to test drive as the SA told me that the GTI test car had been sold. I really like the looks of the Scirocco but I'm intrigue to see what the performance difference is like compared to the GTI

I think you will enjoy your test drive smile.gif Make sure if that you have a chance, to floor it in sports mode:) Very poisoning:)

Head over to Cergaz. During my last visit there which was last weekend, there is a GTI test drive unit there.
Since you already loved Rocco at first sight, keep that RM20k for maybe some mods in the future and get the Rocco. The stage 1 upgrade doesn't come cheap though, in Singapore is about SGD2k+. You could also maybe look into upgrading the headunit to RNS510. drool.gif
