just test drove the golf 1.4TSi. there are actually two specs - the higher spec one is going for RM156k w/o insurance and the cheaper spec one is going for RM148k. difference is only in the aesthetics (lack of bi-xenons, etc).

i'm really impressed with it overall. very torquey for a 1.4, and builds up speeds really quickly. the showroom i went to still has some stock for next month but only in red and white. next batch is in march 2011 iirc?

polos and sciroccos will be in showrooms next month.

yeah; i also asked about CKD units and i was also told that it was in the 2 year pipeline. 3S center should also be ready by then.

@eddie_al: sorry mate, but how was yan's reply aggressive?

the rocco has 4 individual fixed seats:

so unless you want someone to sit ON the middle, and they actually like that, then yes. it can seat 5 comfortably.

i haven't seen the new polo in person yet; but it should be able to seat 5; how comfortable will depend on body size (golf = good, polo = smaller), of course smile.gif

edit: this might help - http://www.motorbeam.com/cars/volkswagen-p...e-polo-at-expo/

@Here-I-Come: no it isn't; the beetle is a different class of car, and has much more interior space. the polo is the smallest car in the VW stable here in malaysia.

@phas3r: sorry mate, didn't occur to me to snap a quick pic of the rear. will do so next time i pass by (since they're all parked outside, anyway).

@Max1979: i think that really depends on what you are looking for. you can easily remap the ECU and get golf GTI outputs without voiding the warranty; so you could easily save RM20k and get a golf TSI. that, or you could also easily do the same with the scirocco TSI.

not a big fan on the rocco. test drove it, and honestly find it much too pricey. i suppose there are no issues if one can afford it. personally, i prefer the golf.

to clarify; chipping the ecu will void the warranty with vw malaysia. however, you will still maintain warranty from the tuner, although i am not sure on the extent of the coverage. best to enquire before taking the plunge.

damn near myr190k for a 1.4 2-door is a lot! maybe that's why i barely see them on the road. i think we'll see more 2.0TSI roccos on the road than we will 1.4s.

@phas3r: thanks; that roc actually resides further up my street. actually, i've realised that i've never seen a roc in black. only ever white, green, or blue.

@kelvinftg: actually, the singapore prices makes more sense to me. the golf gti is afterall, more 'performance' oriented than the 2.0 roc is...

uh, i hear a regular service should be in the ballpark of rm500-rm700. so an ipad costs about rm20k?

on an unrelated note; i have a question. are these standard mk6 gti brake lights, or have they been modded?

hmn, just did a bit of searching. i think those are tail lights to mimic the golf R; standard gti fare should be same as tsi(?). please correct me if i am wrong smile.gif

@rebecks: thanks for the info; that makes sense since the car i snapped are SG-reg.

@treason: i hear the polo gti will be rm13xk.

@hacksrider: i personally would go for the tsi. 5 year warranty for peace of mind. plus, the gaps in real world performance is not that big. the mk5 is starting to look really dated too, as there are many mk6s otr.

i really don't get the LED movement most carmakers are embracing these days. OK on an audi. damn weird on a merc/beemer/veedub/honda/etc.

i've done the math.

RM50k deposit, RM150k loan, 3% interest over 5 years. that would amount to RM2875/month repayment. 7 years @ RM2160. (for the sake of argument, let's assume that you wouldn't want to take a 9 year loan for a golf gti)

so yes, with a RM150k loan, take home pay has gotta be at least RM9000 (in my books, anyway) so just afford a car, house, and other misc commitments.

speed traps? on the MEX? i take the MEX to work daily and i've never noticed anything before (or got any tickets in the past 10 months)...

but yes, the MEX is a good place for banging out top speeds.
