- The sole purpose of this thread is for discussion on Maxis's iPhone rate plans and to serve as guide for potential subscribers. It's not a medium for chit-chat, gain post counts and spill all your complaints on unrelated issues.
- No discussions on registrations, bookings, deposits and anything related to those. (A specific thread has been set up for that purpose, click HERE)
- No discussions on/and comparisons with Singtel/Aussie and any other countries' offerings. Do head to their specific threads.
- This is not a Maxis bashing thread.
- Spams, one-liners, off-topic posts will be deleted and a warning will be given for repeated offenses.
- Do read up the first page, Maxis's FAQ and both CAQ sections before posting. Me & davidgary73 will be updating the thread as often as we can, as soon as new information are made available.

Commonly Asked Questions on Maxis iPhone 4/3GS:

Collection (credits to leecwai)

QUOTE
So far I have called up Maxis twice, and reconfirm again with them. Only need these for i3GS pick up:

1) I/C
2) Confirmation letter
3) Deposit receipt

*Those who registered for the phone under a supplementary line will need to bring along the principal line (with I/C) owner during collection.

Maxis will register the mobile # that you want to tie with their plan, but the catch is the mobile # must be register under your name. Same applied to Hotlink. No sim required but the number must be register under the buyer's name.

If you don't have a prepaid and do not want to buy a prepaid card, basically you can give the free data to your family members or friends by changing the prepaid register name to your name.

Changing of name is free but must be done in Maxis center. (The original owner must be there
to change the registered name)

QUOTE
> What firmware does Maxis 4/3GS iPhone comes with?
- It comes with OS 4.0.2

> Does it come jailbroken?
- No.

> Can I jailbreak the iPhone?
- Users choice. Warranty will be void unless a full restore is done before sending it back for warranty.

> Can I trade in my old iPhone 2G/3G/3GS for Maxis iPhone 4/3GS?
- TBC

> Can I use it with other telcos since it's unlock and any forumers using?
- Yes. There are forumers using on different telcos.

> Can I use it overseas?
- Yes, on officially unlock 4/3GS iPhones. Place the simcard and and you're ready to use. You can use the services of various GSM based carriers around the world.

Commonly Asked Questions on Rate Plans, Data Usage, Call/SMS Charges, Warranty:

Rate Plans:
QUOTE
> Can I purchase iPhone 4/3GS from Maxis without subscribing to any sort of contracts?
- Yes. You can purchase your iPhone via Hotlink (Prepaid) plans. However, you must first be registered for a postpaid iPhone 4 plan.

> Can I purchase iPhone 4/3GS from Maxis via the Hotlink plan but use it on my Maxis postpaid or on other telco (Digi, Celcom)?
- Yes. That's the beauty of official-unlock/outright purchase. However, the Hotlink plans do come with a free 500MB data usage per month, for a year. If you decided to use the phone on another plan or telco, you're basically 'dumping' the free data bundle that comes with it.

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can I switch to any of the iValue Plans and get the iPhone 4/3GS at subsidized price?
- Yes. Contact Maxis Customer Service or Maxis Centre for more details.

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can I subscribe to iValue and maintain my supplementary line(s)?
- Yes. You can still keep your supplementary line(s).

> I'm currently on Value Plan/Plus 50, 80, 150, 250, 500, can pair my current plan with iData and get the iPhone 4/3GS at subsidized price?
- Yes. Do choose from iData 30, 50 or 99 according to your preference or data usage pattern.

> I'm currently on a supplementary line. Can I switch to iValue on my own?
- No. You will need to request your principal line subscriber to book on your behalf.

> Can I pair any of the iValue and iData plans together?
- No. iValue is a standalone plan and iData can only be paired with Value Plan/Plus or any supplementary lines.

> I'm currently using an iPhone 2G/3G/3GS/4 from Singtel/overseas, am I entitled to get the free 500MB data bundle per month if I have/get a Hotlink prepaid number from Maxis?
- No. You will need to have/get a Hotlink prepaid number and purchase an iPhone 3G/3GS from Maxis to be entitled for the data bundle.

Upgrade/Downgrade of Plans:
QUOTE
> Policy-wise it is not clearly spelled out, so some people may not do it. For those who will do it, by terminating the service (eg. iData 2) to assign a new one (eg. iData 3) will trigger the penalty to kick-in, which will require a waiver which will require approval.

Data Usage:
QUOTE
> Is iData/iValue's 500MB/1GB data bundle sufficient for casual surfing?
- Yes. Based on feedback from few forummers, Facebook, YouYube, IM, Surfing, Apps download and updates take up roughly 500MB per month. Just an estimation though. If you're an heavy user on downloads and YouTube, do take up higher capacity data bundle.
(Note that the allocated data per month is fixed for every month and cannot be carried forward)

QUOTE
Example: (credits to nokia2003)
i don't jailbreak and tether my iPhone (important piece of information) and i'm on the 250MB/month. let me illustrate on, my typical average usage per day; i'm perpetually on LYN (not the lite version), retrieve and reply e-mails (6 accounts), read news (from different sites), moderate another forum, blog hopping, IM chatting and the odd apps updating. i typically, spend approximately 6 hours away from my home during university days and rely heavily on the optus 3G network of course. also bear in mind that i have never exceeded my data allowance. this website should also be helpful to estimate your usage.

user posted image

> I've read about few forummers about subscribing to the Unlimited Data Plan for RM99 rather than iData 3 (capped at 3GB) if you're a heavy data usage user, is it really unlimited?
- From a reliable Maxis source, it is confirmed that even the Unlimited Data Plan for RM99 is also capped at 3GB, which means it's exactly the same as iData on the capped usage (3GB).

> What will be the data usage charges for all the iData plans if I've exceeded the free data bundle given?
- Additional usage will be charged at 0.5 sen/kb.

Call/SMS Charges:
QUOTE
> Does the iValue plan includes any SMS usage?
- No. You will have to pay extra for any SMS you sent, 10 sen/SMS
(You can subscribe to RM8 SMS package from Maxis which allows you to send up to 500 SMS per month to Maxis numbers)

> I'm currently on Value Plus 50 and have supplementary lines on Family Plus 30, calls from main-supp, supp-main, supp-supp are free. If I switch to iValue, will I still able to enjoy free calls with my supplementary lines?
- Yes. With the new revised iValue plans, calls & SMS made to and from your supp lines will remain free. (subjected to Family Plus T&C) (UPDATED)

> What will be the call charges for all the iValue plans if I've exceeded the free minutes given?
- The call rates will be at a flat rate to all networks. (including to Maxis numbers)
- eg. iValue 1 (Free 333 minutes): Additional calls made to Maxis/other networks are 15 sen/min.

Warranty:
QUOTE
> How long is the warranty period for Maxis iPhone 4/3GS?
- The warranty is up to 2 years from the date of purchase and cannot be extended. (not valid for ACPP)
(Even if your contract with Maxis is for 2 years, the warranty is valid for 2 years)

> What kind of damages does the warranty cover against?
- Just like the policy of any other mobile phone distributor, the warranty covers against any software/hardware failures and damages that are not self-caused or due to self-negligence. (eg. drops, water damages)
(Warranty will be void if you jailbreak your iPhone. Do a restore before sending in for warranty)

> If my iPhone is faulty, can I send in to Maxis and request for 1-to-1 exchange?
- In most cases, 1-to-1 is done for faulty sets. But you might need to wait if the specific centre don't have ready stocks. And take note that for the experience of past Maxis iPhone 3G users, a refurbished set will be given for the exchange.

> I've just bought a used Maxis iPhone 4/3GS. What do I need to do when I wanted to send in my phone to Maxis for warranty?
- To claim warranty you need the person who bought the iPhone which is under his/her name to be present. Requires I/C (of original owner) and warranty card.
*UPDATE: According to a personnel from Machines, having the Warranty Service Card is suffice for warranty purpose.(credits to tinkerbel)

Rate Plan Recommendations:
QUOTE
> Which plan suits me the most? There are so many plans and I'm confused!
- It all depends on your monthly usage of calls, SMS and data. Below are some recommendations:

Postpaid users
1. Utilise more calls than SMS per month, utilise data usage as well (substantial or not) and don't mind being contracted, go for iValue plans.

2. Would like to use your iPhone to do some casual surfing and don't mind being contracted, sign up for the iData plans, choose one which suits your data usage pattern most.

3. Utilise quite a substantial amount of data usage per month but not willing to being contracted under iValue or iData, you can get your iPhone via Hotlink, keep your current postpaid plan and subscribe to Maxis's RM99 Unlimited Data plan. (not under iData plan, but still capped at 3GB per month)

Prepaid users
1. You would still want to enjoy 500MB of data bundle every month for a year (without being contracted), get the iPhone under Hotlink plans.
> Get the Hotlink Youth Club simpack at RM8.80 if you're under 25 and you'll get 4 years validity (with minimum top up of RM10 per year) or
> Get a normal Hotlink simpack, subscribe to Hotlink 365 (maintain prepaid line validity for a year) for:
Subscription is RM33 (one time) + RM30 (min top-up within 1st 6 months) = RM63
**Both will ensure your prepaid line will be valid 24/7 to receive the 500mb data bundle!

I've a question to ask about the maxis ivalue plan...
I took up the ivalue 1 iphone 3GS plan and supposedly to just pay rm100 every month if I don't exceed the rm100 ?
I thought my calls, sms-es etc usage charges should be charged within the rm100 ?
I did not exceed rm100 but they are charging me rm140+
So is it that I'm suppose to pay rm100+calls, sms etc ?
Sorry if this is confusing

If not mistaken rm50 is for call and rm50 is for data. If your call exceeded rm50. Then they will start charging call charges starting from rm50.01.

here's how it works:

you have 333 minutes of talk time and 100 SMS plus 500MB of data. all for RM100 per month. if you exceed the these quotas, there will be additional charges.

if you were being charged RM140, you must have exceed any of the minutes, SMS or data quota. anyway, refer to your statements and do clarify with Maxis if you were mistakenly charged. smile.gif

He took ivalue1 which comes with bundled

300 Minutes call
500 MB Data
100 SMS
10 MMS

All those above are included in your ivalue1 which cost you RM100 monthly. So when you paid RM100, you can just use what is stated up there.

Anything more than those will be charged accordingly.
15sen/min
10sen/SMS

Example, even if you never called anyone but sent 101 SMS, you will be charged RM100 + RM0.10 and so on.

Unless you take idata which only subscribe for the internet and proceed with your normal Value Plan 50 which allow you to use up to RM50 (Call+SMS+MMS)

Value Plan RM50 (Call+SMS+MMS)
iData2 RM50 (500MB internet)
Total RM100 but your Call SMS and SMS aren't bundled as FIXED by maxis. More flexibility.

If i am a supplementary line, and i want iValue 1, will my bill still be shared with my principal line? e.g : iValue 1 = RM100 + Rm50 (principal), if my principal line use more than RM50, it will be taken from my RM100?

Thank you for explaining =)
My bill states that
Monthly charges: RM100
Usage charges: RM66.86 -The italktime, sms and mms rebate=RM43.51
So it means the usage charges is what I exceed ?

i have a simple question that i can't find the answer here...asked before but no one answered hehe

if i purchase an iphone outright somewhere else, to use with my current value 50 plan...can i get the rm50 iData plan? as in i pay rm50 (assuming i dont exceed lah) + idata 30 = rm80 per month...

...or i need to get the rm58 500mb monthly pass Maxis Mobile Package?

as for the iData package... im thinking of trying with idata 30 1st... see enough or not. if not, i wanna upgrade to idata 50. got penalty? the T&C only mention got penalty for downgrading plans, so im not sure about upgrading

de ja vu an irony aplenty in these thread eh string? lol, anyways assuming the prices are the same between SG and MY sets the 32GB iPhone 4 Plans shud be something similar to the 16GB 3GS
*
Deja vu and irony aplenty indeed. As many others here who have predicted, even the most vocal and loudest dissenter and complainers are there like empty drums, drumming up sensationalized issues when it suits their personal amusement, or padding up their righteous decision of "Wait and see" and mocking the early adopters with their choices, and as the news of the iPhone launch gets closer and cheaper(probably the "cheap" factor that caved them in), they change their tune. And "First" too! If that is not irony at its epitomical best, I dont know what is. rolleyes.gif

Bottom line is, it is perfectly fine to complain, but complain with substance. Provide insights, and possible ways of alleviating such complaints with constructive criticism. I kept to my word on quoting those who were loud and brash with their blatant complaints and whines about the antenna and "first batch issues", lo and behold, they are now the ones at the front of the line now to get them! Yup, "First" indeed. rclxms.gif

Good for you, Evo! Trust me, your faith will be rewarded the moment you receive your unit. biggrin.gif

At least you weren't the ones who were loudly complaining last time, and now standing proudly at the front of the line getting one. wink.gif
