risse kinda awful in his last 2 years in liverpool. i dont think he suitable to play for liverpool again. all we need a LB and striker who is capable with BPL gameplay, robust and fast.
i think what RH said that he wants 2 more players to sign is for these positions. btw, no one liverpool fan is better than other liverpool fan. we're all the same, we're red. each people loves in different way. all we can do is support liverpool and show to other people that we proud to be liverpool fan. |

i think every fans should know a little bit history about our club la...its not about the whole story..but something that usually we said and talk about it...like Th Sun, Hillsborough...
I also dont know a lot about our club...but i do just a little bit research to know why this and this and that... the one that i regret a lot as a fan is 'CL 2005'...i cant talk much about it cause that time i was not care a lot about my club...(and some of middle age things)..after i join this thread, then i slowly read all the things what and what... for time being, i still dont know what is 'Standard Corrupted' 'Shankly Spirit'..the community/group that want to get rid Gillet and Hicks...yes im ignorance to know that for this time, maybe i have teh tarik with some real cool fans and talk about it..then i will know better... |

QUOTE(de_sengal @ Aug 9 2010, 07:50 AM) It would be interesting if RH able to re-sign back him. Last time he also expressed his feeling to join back liverpool. I rated him same like roberto calos and certainly i know riise was a liverpool player..but to rate him better than ashley cole & same level like roberto carlos??...come onnnnnn > than ashley cole. |

yes, IMHO, risse is no better than cole or roberto carlos, his peak form when we won UCL2005, after that he form drop drastic that we need to drop him.
he was good in attacking but a bit sloppy in defence. his left foot is unbelieveable strong. i still remember him scored during community shield against chelskie. what a strike.. |

QUOTE(wolvie2k @ Aug 9 2010, 12:24 AM) I don't know a lot about Liverpool's history. I just like watching them play. I loved watching them play since I was a kid. I guess if I still don't qualify as a fan in your eyes then so be it. How you choose to support your club is entirely up to you. It is just my opinion that you should know about your club because to be honest, it's embarrasing when rival fans can point out something about your own club that you don't know. To reiterate what I said earlier, it's fine not to know. We weren't all born with built in knowledge. We learn as we go along just like anything else in life. I have no issues with fans not knowing and respect them if they want to know. It's when fans don't bother and choose not to read even when other posters feed them information that I find it hard to respect. Some of us invest in books and I know not everyone can but we share what we read. Having said that, all sorts of information is available these days on the net for free. Some people read gossip magazines because they like to hear about the latest news from Hollywood. Some read car magazines because they are motor heads. Other's read tech magazines because they like gadgets and gizmos. Similarly, I'd expect someone who likes Liverpool to read about Liverpool. Again, my opinion. I can't force you to be interested. I can only encourage. I want you to understand why Liverpool is so special to the fans and you can only do that if you know a little bit of history. It pains me to think that a fan might not have heard of names like Shankly, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish, Souness, Hughes, Smith, St. John, etc because these are legends of the club. Liverpool fans are constantly accused of living in the past simply because it is the hallmark of a Liverpool fan to know of our past. We need to remember that we were once a club languishing in the old Division 2 with minimal facilities, and in a matter of a few short years were transformed into one of the most feared sides in Europe by a man called Bill Shankly. I will still support and watch them whenever I can. I will still buy their shirts too. I welcome anyone to do the same regardless of how much they know about the club. It isn't about being old and young. You may or you may not have seen Monstar posting on this thread. He's what? 22/23? I met him back in the day when I was organising viewing parties for Carlsberg. Actually, we met online and I told him to come to the game against the mancs some years back. If memory serves me he was only 17/18 at the time. He came alone and watched the game. Since then, he's learned all the songs and read about the club. I dare say he knows more about the club than I do. My point is this isn't about older fans trying to be better than younger fans because some young fans are even more passionate. I must say that it isn't all that common, but it isn't unheard off either. QUOTE(normeck @ Aug 9 2010, 09:29 AM) i think every fans should know a little bit history about our club la...its not about the whole story..but something that usually we said and talk about it...like Th Sun, Hillsborough... QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Aug 6 2010, 08:18 PM) As Roy Evans once said to "somebody" here Who could that be? I wonder... Everyone wants and thinks that they can be a manager, but Roy Evans was the one watching the players train. Don't want to say a lot, as Duke covered most of the points. I do have to add though, I completely agree with the point made about doing some research and read up a little. One good example that I saw, if a girl can spend a couple of hours at wikipedia, reading about Liverpool, then turned to me and say, "now I know what it meant to be a Liverpool fan, the passion, the love, everything about the club. I am not a fan, I just watch football with you guys. I am not qualified to call myself a fan." If a girl can read up and say that, adamant that she is not a fan because she is not as passionate as us, then what does that say about us "fans"? I would really hope that the younger fans here, when prompted on some important points on the club, would not reply with stupid things such as "I need not know everything to be a fan", if that's the case, please call yourself a follower, not a fan or supporter, you're just merely follow football and the club. On The S*N and Hillsborough, those who know me would know how I feel about it, don't want to repeat and sound like a broken record, but, it is an important part of the club, it is something that we all should know. It is so important to the club, when the crest was redesigned in 1992 to celebrate the centenary, the Eternal flames were added to the crest, to remember the 96 that perished. On another issue of "The Kop". If you must use a nickname, we are known as The Reds, not Kop. Like what Duke said, The Kop, came from the word Spion Kop which in Afrikaans language means vantage point. It was adapted to the Kop stand after the Boer War in South Africa, where a lot of scousers were sent to fight. Go look up the lyrics of "Poor Scouser Tommy" and you'd understand it a little more. Finally, for those who don't know, this is a 4 days after Hillsborough, where the semifinal of the then European Cup, was stopped at the 6th minute, for a minute's silence where the 2 sets of fans sang "You'll Never Walk Alone". Brings tears to my eyes everytime I see this. EDIT For some reason, it is not attached, try to click on this link This post has been edited by Jonno: Aug 9 2010, 10:31 AM |

I guess if I still don't qualify as a fan in your eyes then so be it. To each his own then. You will find that for most of the regulars (or ex-regulars) here, Liverpool is not merely a football team that one supports. Many are, as Duke says fans of the fans. Almost all treasure the principles once embodied by the club. YNWA is not merely an empty, convenient marketing statement.I will still support and watch them whenever I can. I will still buy their shirts too. I welcome anyone to do the same regardless of how much they know about the club. Honestly, what's so great about eleven men chasing down a small ball out on a grass pitch anyways. And why would 7 sane persons be sitting on the sidelines hoping to get a chance to replace one of the eleven? Personally, I think buying merchandise and replica jerseys is not an indication of a fan. A fan cares about the club and its wellbeings. It is not about how many jerseys or scarves you own, it is about the kinship you fell with the rest of the fans. Also, for me there is a distinction between a fan and a follower. Having lived in Manchester many many moons ago, i was surrounded by City fans. Going to their games was an eye opener - the club was down in the dumps, yet their fans remained loyal. I follow their games still, and seeing them win does in a way make me happy. But i care not what really happens to their club. If they were to get relegated again (which is kinda impossible now!) I'd probably feel be a bit upset. But come morning, it'll probably be just another headline. HOWEVER, if Liverpool were to get relegated I would be DEVASTATED. Mere rumours of Liverpool changing hands gets me emotional nowadays. Really, to me, a proper fan is one that would NOT buy the club's replica shirt as a stand against something. Monstar, as Duke pointed out is boycotting ALL official club merchandise till the 2 yanks feck off, so am I, as tempted as I to go out and buy a scarf (speak of which, it's high time I buy a few more scarfs, I think maddie has one of mine too |

True that... in my time over there, I did have pleasant experiences with watching matches at almost all the local clubs (Stockport, City, Sale, Bolton etc). The smaller clubs had passionate local fanbases... and played crappy route 1 football. Very decent atmosphere.
Anfield and Old Trafford in contrast was slightly more subdued or perhaps orderly. I suppose that is the harsh realities of football nowadays. |

Your scarf went to Shanghai with me earlier this year. Much to the chagrin of my missus, I borrowed it to a really really cute girl in the tour who was from my hometown - she did not really pack any winter clothes.
I'd need to check with me parents if she's returned it |

Few more days to Arsenal game and I cant wait to see the new team played under a new gaffer. We may get a beating from the gooners but I personally think first few months (or this whole season) is about the build up for something better under RH. let's hope the freakin owners pack their bag and go soon.
on a side note, I believe if you're a fan then it's not hurt to learn something about the history of the club along the way. Like Duke said, it will not look good on you when a fans from other club point something about your club that you didn't know. IMHO, the stories behind The S*N and Hillsborough is important for any Liverpool to know. and a lot of top european team especially Milan was boss after the tragedy. singing YNWA before their games. full respect to them. |
