QUOTE(CrossFirE @ Aug 4 2010, 12:15 AM) i feel want to cry when i watch that video too. i still remember that time when i was watching that match with my cousin and i was about to give up in the first half because of the score but my cousin told me to stay and watch the whole game. For the first time in my life, i will always remember that time and i glad that i stay for the game. When i saw dudek saved the penalty against Svenchenko, i really jump around my house and shout like crazy. I even heard some guys out from my house shout like crazy. It is really amazing of how that moment which will really impact every liverpool's fan lifes. Mate, trust me when I saw you aren't the only one. In the time that I've been a football fan, I've noticed that winning trophies matters more to Liverpool fans than any other, probably because we aren't accustomed to winning, well not as much as the mancs or Chelsea anyway. Many of their fans grew up in a winning environment, so much so that 2 seasons without a trophy turns out to be a mild form of tragedy. It's simple really. When you have things come your way ever so often, you begin to take things for granted. Personally, such moments of glory will stick in my head forever. Memories of the game are so vivid, it was as though it was played yesterday. When I first started supporting Liverpool, we had just won our last league title and in the years that followed after, we had only won 3 cups including a League Cup and the Charity Shield, neither of which are worth a shout. Needless to say, when we won in Istanbul, years of pent up emotion burst out. It was the same for the 3000 odd Liverpool fans I was with in Hartamas until 6 am in the morning. Some of us stayed on and partied till 7am when daylight finally made us realise that we had to go home, shower and go to work! I've never seen such a celebration in my life. People were on the streets as cars stopped by where we were, with their drivers and passengers getting out to dance in the streets with us. Every other car that passed by honked in support. I saw what it meant to us and the sight of thousands of strangers coming together as one further cemented my belief on what it means to be part of Liverpool Football Club. It says a lot that we still speak about that night in May like it was yesterday. I sometimes get accused of living in the past but on the contrary, I just cherish it is all. Back to the "One Night in May" video. 2 years after Istanbul, I made my maiden trip to Anfield with a friend. We watched the game against Arsenal in which we won 4-1. Prior to that, I visited the Liverpool FC museum and noticed a room dedicated to our triumph in Istanbul. I walked in and they were playing the "One Night in May" DVD. In the room was about 50 other fans who were sat in front of the screen. I joined them for a good 30 mins and by the end of it, I could see people brushing their eyes. I realised then that I wasn't overly sentimental and I no longer felt like a soppy little girl. Grown adults from other parts of the world wept as I did when I first watched the video! |

QUOTE(madmoz @ Aug 3 2010, 05:41 PM) There's been a number of articles and quotes from the UK Sun popping up around here Can we put it down somewhere that NO articles from THE S*N is to be posted here? If you want to know why, simply read the article posted by maddie...» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « On the possible take over, many here stated that they wanted a passionate owner that is a fan, I will tell you this, it ain't gonna happen. the days of Uncle Jack who won Blackburn the league with his money are over, these days, I would say that it will be hard for fans to come out and own the club outright like how Jack Walker bankrolled his team. Especially with the 2 clowns at helm, by wanting in excess of 500 - 600M showed how greedy they are. Kenny Huang is playing a nice game here by trying to force their hands by going to RBS. For me, I want an owner who'd see the club as a great investment. However, a great potential investment, he'd need to invest more, in the playing squad, the stadium and some other off field activities, then he'd be able to make profit out of it. While us fans would have something positive to cheer on, and hopefully this investment would be able to bring us the trophies that we so crave. While the owner makes a tidy profit out of it, I would have no problem with that. And like maddie, I am pretty emotional at the prospect of a new owner that would see us moving in the right direction (hopefully and finally), and now let's hope that Woy would be able to steady the ship for now and then hopefully kick on for the trophies. To take a line out of "The Dark Knight", Roy Hodgson is not the hero we deserve (in fact, he hardly is the hero we want), but he's the one we need now" Duke, I share your sentiments on "One night in May", everytime I watch it, or hear the "Ring of Fire" (CL 2005 version), it never fail to bring tears to me eyes, especially the part where the commentator goes "Liverpool is the champion of Europe for the 5th time, and that trophy is not going anywhere but Anfield". For the rest of the fans, you might not understand what it meant to win the CL, or fans of other club who prowl here, who think that 2 years of not winning a trophy is a barren run, try 21 now, before you make fun of that, please remember that Manchester United went without a league title for 24 years (1968 - 1992), we have a couple of years to go before that. And that Chelsea went 50 years between league titles, and Arsenal "only" 18 years between league titles. For us, like what duke said, it's the years of frustration, the years of false dawn (we went all the way in 1996 / 97) until the last coupld of months, lost steam and ended up 4th, and the now infamous "we are 10 games away from greatness" by Houllier. It's just like courting a girl for 15 years and when she finally said yes to you! (well, something like that i supposed Anyway, I do hope that the possible takeover will materialised and that we would be able to experience more nights like 25th May 2005, (technically it's 26th May 2005 here in Malaysia, but who cares, you know what I mean anyway) |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Aug 4 2010, 11:31 AM) ditto. it is not easy. after watching teams led by Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish filling our trophy cabinets, it is heartbreaking to see Souness, Evans, Houllier and Rafa failing....the buyover talks are heating up...even about Liverpool becoming the richest club in the world..... If 1-2 years from now we end up reclaiming the title with a hugely expensive mega millionaire squad, i will rejoice....but i will still miss the old days when we won the title with only 1-2 superstars (Keegan, Dalglish, Rush)...... |

Juve: Liverpool can talk to Poulsen
Liverpool have been given the permission by Juventus to talk to midfielder Christian Poulsen. Despite the player's agent denying any offers from the English giants, it has now been reported by Sky Sport Italia that the Turin club have shown the green light to Liverpool to conduct dialogue with the Danish international. Poulsen is believed to be viewed as a surplus in the plans of Luigi Del Neri for the upcoming season as they seek to reverse their fortunes after last season's disappointing finish. Juventus are also reportedly ready to negotiate the transfer fee with the former European champions after the player agrees personal terms with them. Poulsen joined the Old Lady from Sevilla in 2008 but has struggled to impress during his two seasons in Turin. |

QUOTE(madmoz @ Aug 4 2010, 10:22 AM) let this nightmare end... it has already cost us a really good manager (not because he was sacked, but because Rafa allowed the mess to get to him and change him as a person) and god knows how many potential players. now thats a credible thought. he was never too bad of a manager, i'm sure at IM he has a hard act to follow & should prove detractors wrong.Kenny Huang... did his parents, pool fans? that would be ironic QUOTE(Duke Red @ Aug 4 2010, 12:31 PM) I was able to cherish the earlier LFc heights & the most heartbreak Lfc game I ever watched. losing 1-2 to arsenal. Syrian favourite to buy Liverpool
Liverpool is on the brink of being sold to a group of investors led by Syrian Yahya Kirdi and not Chinese businessman Kenny Huang. Kirdi is understood by Sky Sports to be leading a bid by a select group of investors from the Middle East and Canada to buy 100% of the club. The former Syrian international footballer claims he has agreed terms of the deal which will include paying off Liverpool's debts as well as pumping fresh investment into the club and financing a new stadium. Liverpool would not officially comment on the latest developments but reports indicate the Syrian is already in advanced talks with officials. For the last few days, Huang was considered the frontrunner to buy the club but it appears Kirdi is now the favourite to land Liverpool. |

QUOTE CHELSEA new-boy Yossi Benayoun almost turned his initiation ceremony into a full-blown riot. Blues signings are traditionally forced to stand on a table and sing a song. Benayoun chose the Liverpool anthem, sung by Gerry and the Pacemakers. The ex-Reds winger confessed: "I started to sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' but all the other players started shouting and they wouldn't let me carry on. So I had to do something different!" |

Royal Bank Of Scotland Deny Discussions With Potential Bidders For Liverpool Takeover
Kirdi and Rhone Group believed to be in the running... By Adithya Ananth The Royal Bank of Scotland has denied having any discussions with potential buyers of Liverpool. A recent name to be linked with a takeover of the debt ridden Merseyside club was businessman Kenny Huang, who has been reported to be harbouring a serious interest in leading a Chinese purchase of the Reds. In the meantime, speculation was rife that the RBS could have been involved in the talks as the current owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, owe a significant sum of money to the bank. However, club chairman Martin Broughton recently maintained that the financial negotiations will be handled by Barclays Capital, the bank mandated to run the sale process. A spokesman for RBS is quoted by The Herald as saying: "The guy [Huang] contacted us and we put him onto the club and the advisers. We have not had negotiations with him at all, there is a due process for any bidder." Now it appears that Huang is being rivalled in the race to become the new owner at Anfield, as Sky Sports News claims that Yahya Kirdi, who represents Middle East & Canadian investors, is close to buying Liverpool. It has been reported in the past that Kirdi knows co-owner George Gillett and his son Foster, and is also believed to have been present in January to watch the Reds play Stoke City in what was an underwhelming season last time out. Meanwhile, The Telegraph claims that a New York-based private equity firm, the Rhone Group, have rejoined the race to take control of the Merseyside club. It is believed that the Rhone Group had previously made an approach to buy the club towards the latter stages of last season, offering £100 million to assume 40 per cent control - leaving the two current owners with 30 per cent each. However, any potential bid that may have been made at the time did not reach fruition as no takeover took place prior to the conclusion of the 2009-10 Premier League season. But now the Americans are said to have returned to compete with Huang and Kirdi to assume control of Liverpool. Added on August 4, 2010, 5:10 pmLiverpool set to clinch deal for Mascherano replacement After Fernando Torres pledged his future to the cause there could be more good news for Liverpool fans, with the Anfield club about to clinch the signing of Juventus midfielder Christian Poulsen. The Italian club have accepted £6m for the Danish star, who was last night discussing personal terms. The 30-year-old plays the holding midfield role currently occupied by unsettled Argentinian Javier Mascherano. Added on August 4, 2010, 5:16 pmDegen agrees Stuttgart terms Stuttgart claim to have agreed personal terms with defender Philipp Degen after he was told he can leave Liverpool, while the Bundesliga club have also settled a deal with Andre Ayew. Full-back Degen was informed by Roy Hodgson in the wake of the new manager's arrival at Anfield that he did not feature in his first-team plans and that he was free to look for a new club. Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart acted quickly and former Borussia Dortmund player Degen is interested in a return to Germany, meaning a deal will now need to be agreed with Liverpool.
