Great. How about the subtitle? Also available at above speed?

Which models?

Thanks

Your requirement a bit strange. Until now, only TViX S1 can play at 2X with sound and subtitle. Other players cannot.

Hi I am interested in the AC Ryan PlayOn Mini but I noticed that the price is a bit higher compared to say the WDTV series. Why is it so and what's the advantage of the PlayOn Mini against WDTV?
Thanks!

i am using optical cable (red light type) to channel the audio to the avr.
you mean that to play trueHD only hdmi cable can carry the signal?
optical cable will not be able to?
please advice.
*
if old avr, no hdmi port, no choice... dtshdma will be downgraded to just dts which is ok!

mini2 can handle dtshdma, dolbytruehd, even the later models of the mini can.
old pohd, can't...

i just bought the new A.C Ryan PlayOn!HD Essential player yesterday. And was curious to check the website about this player and saw the Wireless-N USB Dongle Drivers for Windows. What is it? Here is the website link

that is for you to download and upgrade the latest firmware. comes with instructions.
since you bought new, best to get used to the unit first, check what firwmare you have in there - there is an option for you to see.
if out of date, should upgrade. from the webpage, essential has 3 releases, so just check if you have the latest or need to upgrade.
a word of caution - some prefer not to upgrade too quickly since the latest firmware may be better to them, used to the old one...

i have sad.
I have a 42GB of Transformers 3 - TDOFM
But my AC Ryan is telling me that they cant play the interactive menu due to the profile not supported. Will there be support for full BD menu in the future? Or it is limited by the realtek chipset ability?

It's limitation of realtek chipset. Only Sigma chipset support full blu-ray menu at the moment.

Planning to get a media player at first, but as far as I know, it can't support any DTS/Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 surround, and this should be the reason why people still support blurays.....anybody has any idea on how I can actually enjoy the movies with media player without compromising on the surround quality?

7.1 - i am not sure becos i never tried.

dolby/dts 5.1 - think all mdeida players support it, except the cheapest ones. check the specs on the specs on box, always listed there.

acyran - mini2, pohd2 support even dolby truehd and dts hd master audio - assuming yr avr and files are in order.

veleo - supports only normal dolby/dts, it will just downgrade any trudehd/hdma to normal dolby/dts.

enjoy! biggrin.gif

err, just to clarify something, because I'm a noob with media players....Playon!HD2 specification shows that

Dolby Digital AC3 5.1 (passthrough & downmix to stereo)
Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 (passthrough)
Dolby TrueHD 7.1 (passthrough & downmix to stereo)
DTS Digital Surround 5.1 (passthrough & downmix to stereo)

Does it mean that it'll convert the original surround to stereo output? i.e. from 5.1/7.1 to 2.1 stereo surround system output?

Cable play important role regarding this matter.

For composite A/V Cable (normally white, red and yellow color), player will downmix all surround sound to stereo.

For SPDIF optical cable and HDMI cable, either player decode the audio and send it as PCM to AVR (amplifier) or passthrough audio signal to AVR (amplifier) and make amplifier to decode codec.

There are limitation in passthrough mode using SPDIF optical cable, ONLY Dolby Digital and DTS sound can be bypassed to amplifier. Due to bandwidth requirement, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA can be bypassed through HDMI cable.

I not sure currently you connect your player to LCD/LED/plasma TV or computer monitor. I think it should a bit better than TV speaker or monitor speaker since S330D included subwoofer (how much better? I don't know because I don't have S330D). But you still can't fully enjoy the surround sound since S330D is 2.1 system only.

as per comments in that thread, some multimedia audio equipment can't support dolby/dts.
the only option left is the L-R audio, i.e. just stereo which should be ok since you're going for 2.0 or 2.1, right?

Cable play important role regarding this matter.

righto!

the inclarity arises sometimes due to some assumptions we make about the use of cables, avr and the actual media files.

to my knowledge:

1. dtshdma/dolbytruehd can only be achieved using hdmi via avrs that have hmdi input.
2. tvs all come with stereo only, all dts/dolby/hd audio issues are irrelevant, just mixed to stereo
3. old avrs w/o hdmi can't handle dtshdma/dolbytruehd, will just deliver dts/dolby using digital audio (coaxial or toslink, both will work).

assuming file is good, avr has hdmi input, acryan audio pass-thru set, for 5.1 audio setup:
4. acryan pohd and veleo can't deliver dtshdma/dolby but will downgrade to just dts/dolby.
5. acryan mini (at least the later ones), mini2, pohd2, essential, all will deliver dtshdma/dolbytruehd

above is my experience. if i'm missing something, pls correct me. tq!

I concur your statement. cause i am using, optical cable from mini2 to avr. and the display only indicate DTS / DD eventhough i am playing a TRUEHD audio.

But I would like to ask one question.

Why is it that when i play DTS the sound is sharper and louder compare to dolby digital ?
In dolby digital, the conversation is so soft and when the action comes in, the sounds become so loud.
In DTS i dont have this issue.
