What's your AC Ryan model? Firmware version?

You can set "aspect ratio" under "video setting" (in setup menu). There are 2 types of ratio for standard 4:3 TV:-
1) Pan Scan 4:3
2) Letter Box 4:3

If you set to "Pan Scan 4:3", when play widescreen movie, it will cropping the image and result in a loss of at least 30% of the original image (refer photo below).

If you set to "Letter Box 4:3", when play widescreen movie, it will presence black bars at top and bottom of the movie.

Another setting is "TV System", should set to "PAL".

I using Mini 2. Firmware have check latest one. But don't know why the wordings a bit blur blur until very hard to see.

This is normal for CRT TV, can't clearly see the tiny text due to low resolution. Nothing you can do to improve the clarity unless upgrade to HDTV.

oh! No.
That means their design just for HDTV only.

The main issue is CRT TV resolution, not the media player. If you can hook to same screen size of CRT monitor (computer monitor), you will see the different of text clarity. This is because monitor resolution higher than TV resolution.

according to acryan forum, youtube has changed things, can't use this feature anymore. boxb, any news if this will be fixed soon?


boxb, i like to report a new problem - for pohd (old), no problem for mini (and the later models, i would think).

i last used latest firmware v7317. the 1st version came out, in jan 2012, i think. all was fine with this one. subsequently i read at acryan forum that a couple of minor bugs were fixed in feb, a new 7137 07/02/2012 replaced an earlier version. last week, i installed this one, ran into problems - sometimes, it hangs for no reason; sometimes it doesn't shut down. this was reported by other users as well.

i was forced to go backwards to older firmwares. the original v7317 is no longer there, so i tried others, as new as possible. v5440 gave me the repeat rebooting problem. now settled with v3966 but this one lacks the useful hdd spindown feature, screen saver not functional.

kindly keep us posted if a replacement firmware is coming soon, tq!

thanks for info... seems common problem across all models are due to ntfs and samba drivers...

the link shows mini2 can try the beta 7716 which is also available for pohd2. but feedback i read is not so good yet for this beta version.

i have pohd and mini, no beta 7716 available yet, only official 7317. the mini is not having any problem with 7317 but the pohd is. pohd now using 3966 which is more stable. only major drawback is there is no hdd spindown feature. well, wil wait for 7716 for pohd, maybe 6 mths?

can sense the trouble is acryan tries to have a common firmware platform for all models old and new but some old models can't cope with some new stuff they keep adding. better off finalizing a "last good" firmware for pohd and stop there!

Has anyone tried a 3TB disk on AC Ryan?

Was planing to get 3TB for my collection storage, is it any problem 3TB Hdd when connect to A.C.Ryan media player?

3TB for HD2 is ok but HD not tested yet. We tried on Hitachi Hard Disk.

Recently I just bought AC Ryan PlayonHD2. Just a little feedback from me.
Positive :-
1. Can play all video format I have.
2. Can slot in Sata HDD without using any screw.
3. Can use Tranmission to download torrent file. (Help reducing my electric bill)
4. With streamyx 1mb, no complain for youtube video..more speed is better.

Negative :-
1. Difficult to remove Internal Sata HDD once it inside. I cannot pull it out with a bare hand.
2. Menu and interface a bit slow (Not a big issue becoz I'm quite patient person)
