Yes, the wifi dongle can be used to access the internet via your wifi router. Similarly for file transfers, from any HDD within your LAN to the HDD attached to your ACRyan

great! thx dude

for internet options incl youtube, the gui does not require a physical keyboard. for searches, the virtual keyboard will come on for you to "click" on the characters.

file transfer acryan hdd-broadband need a pc as host/control and some setup procedure i posted somewhere in this thread. you can't download/transfer from www to acryan without a pc.

one thing i must say - i find it too slow to transfer/download files between pc and acryan wirelessly. maybe 100% usb3.0 hardware is faster. i gave that up, just get all on pc first, then copy to hdds.

i see.. seems like me getting the wifi dongle then.. for now my router is really close to my tv set but perhaps one day might change.. so its best to get one then

If your router is near enough to the TV which allows you to connect with wired LAN, save your $$$ and hold off on the wifi dongle. Wired connection transfer rates definitely more stable and reliable

If comparing between homeplug and wifi, which is better? (stable & reliability)

NEW official firmware released (31-Jan-2012).

thanks for heads up.
just installed firmware 7317 for pohd and mini. seems the problem i had with copying files between hdds is resolved.
also, do check that system is set to "auto scan off" and "clear history on" if you want fast navigation, no hangups.
note each time you install new firmware, the lan shortcuts, system/network settings, fav radio stations all gone... need to redo...
i'll play around with it a bit more to see if this 7317 is good now.

definitely. hardwired always better.
the challenge is if you will also have the pc next to router, acryan and tv! biggrin.gif
chances are one will need a wireless dongle either for the acryan or the pc. (if notebook, then no issue)
i decided to use a dongle for the pc, hardwire the acryan. works well, no problem.

Homeplug will be better. That's what I am using to connect my player in the bedroom to the NAS in my study

this 7317 firmware is fine. no more funny rebooting, additional lpcm multi ch audio setting, default settings more logical, etc.. go ahead and install it.

cheers to boxb and acryan! thumbup.gif

If you have decent AVR set, I think better passthrough audio to AVR. Nice to see "Dolby Digital", "dts" etc pop up at AVR rather than "stereo". tongue.gif

If you need it with an internal HDD, go for the Playon!HD2. If you don't, Playon!HD Mini2 will do. If ability to surf the web is required, go for the Veolo

can go ahead and use it. it's stable but not perfect...

still 2 issues, don't understand why for pohd:

1. for large files - when you pause for say 5min, it takes a full 1 min for it to resume, not a few secs.
this was seen in previous firmware, so, no improvement. for small files, never have this problem.

2. copy files... can't tell why but some files or folders just can't be copied from portable hdd to int hdd. it'll just stop. experimented with diff hdds, files with and without folders, can't find explanation.

other than the above, all good for me - subs, audio, youtube, etc...

Yes, of course. You can connect any external device via the USB port eg HDD, BD-ROM, DVD-ROM etc. You can also connect via network to your PC, NAS etc
