uncle ian.. 18-200mm mahal lar.. how about ini macam? Do consider my milk powder, pampers expense and future child education fund... with that in mind. What kit u recommend for noobie .. body + 2nd hand 3rd party also can (sigma 18-200?).

Sigma 18-200? I suggest you to try the sigma until you satisfied. Tried 5 copies and I gave up! smile.gif
The lens suffer focusing problems and the sharpness is very moody. Sometimes this range sharp
Tomorrow the other range sharp. Some days, not sharp at all. laugh.gif If you have the money, go for canon's 18-200 or the 18-135
Both are beautiful lens rclxms.gif

true. as what azrinarizz said.

my most used lens, and I've been using the Sigma 18-200 DC OS since 2007!

the IQ can be so good until can be accepted in Shutterstock (damn picky people, more picky than all of you combined!) http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-54736594/s...background.html but this was at 154mm la. if go 200mm then IQ cacat a bit liao. biggrin.gif

and focusing i also kena many times liao, lock focus but no come out what i wanted.

it's still a lens that i don't sell off cos damn useful.

bear in mind i bought this lens in 2007 so there were no Canon 18-200 nor 18-135.

i haven't tried both Canon 18-200 and 18-135 intensively but did shoot a bit with them and thought that they perform better than the Sigma.

let's not forget also, Canon's 18-200 is f5.6 at 200 while the Sigma version is f6.3

given a choice, I'd say people should just get the Canon versions nowadays unless budget constraint.

QUOTE(ianho @ Jun 15 2010, 10:50 AM)

My observations between my 5D n 1D-

When I 1st plugged in the 17-40 f4 to the 1D, I was like "where the heck did the bokeh disappear to?".  It really is that much less creamy. Had to get a 16-35 f2.8 to gain back the bokeh. The FF rendition is just so much creamier n smoother it's kinda unexplainable in words. So if u were to plug in ur current lenses to an FF, ur reaction is gonna be the opposite which will go like "phwoarrrrrrrr where the heck did all this bokeh come from?" laugh.gif

I dont understand what Canon puts in the 1D(mebe it's got some fairy dust inside laugh.gif) though coz it's so damn sharp n the level of details in a puny 10mp is just mind blowing. It looks the same as my 5D at 21mp actually. BUT what u will see is the dreamy, creamy, smooth rendition when u go back to the FF. Ur love affair with the 70-200 f2.8L IS may just be reignited by putting it on a FF body.  wub.gif

So I reckon u shud get an FF instead of an 85L. Coz f4 on the FF is already damn nice, f2.8 is almost too much and f1.4 is already over the nose bleed limit on a FF.  laugh.gif

I reckon that I should follow your advise! biggrin.gif
Thanks a lot smile.gif

not that it'll be any much better/worse than 18-55 or 18-200. the convenience is there. it's a decent lens actually.

If not in a hurry or urgent, save more only buy lor laugh.gif
It's always advisable to do that unless you never mind a used unit or in an urgent smile.gif
