no I think the announcement came too late for us laypeople to work on it. Perhaps someone at Astro Marketing could have sold this to GSC/TGV as soon as they knew they would be working on a 3D broadcast and way before the public announcement. Unless Astro themselves decided late that they had the capability.

I think that many people would buy a ticket if they knew it was going to happen, but i have no way of convincing the cinema operators, and theyw ould take time to get the rights ironed out.

Sony made the announcement last year that they would be capturing this in 3D... they would have sorted out the public viewings a long time ago.

Such a waste, because the number of people who will be able to watch this would be miniscule. Even you guys would advise against rushing out to buy a 3D TV just for this, and make that decision within 2 days. So it's just the few guys who already have a 3d TV...

Agree...Since 3DTV's price is quite scary now....
Astro should show 3D World Cup in GSC or TGV cinemas...
I think sure got many people go and buy tickets to watch it...

Justin,

Another thing that I can suggest to PVR team is to add the episode number to the EPG. This will be easy for us to schedule a record especially the repeat shows and to play back the recorded shows.

Currently I looking at my Astro view magazine for this.

Just record 3D WC final and you can watch it when you buy 3DTV later.

Many of paperworks have to been done to bring 3D WC feed to cinema. I think not enough time anymore.
Cinema maybe should take this on consideration
1- Entertainment license/permit from Local Authorities because match will play on 2.30am - 4.30am (current permit up to 3am only)
2- Profit (maybe not enough customer because game play on weekday)
3- 3D WC feed right (Cinema have to apply broadcast license directly from FIFA which is very expensive)

if astro has the capability to broadcast 3d then we are already at 3d ready mode..just to get the hardware to do it..

but 3d runs on 1.4 type HDMI correct? can the 1.3 ones cater the feed?

again...for future proof may as well get a 3d ready lcd and an avr

SiriuslyCold,

To be fair, the decision to broadcast in 3D seemed to be made kinda late. Let's look at the bright side, they seem to be at least trying to catch up for being late to the HD party in Malaysia.

BTW : Checked out the Porcupine Tree BD yet, seems to have some mastering issues with black levels.

The guy who posted the original observation just popped up with some pix on AVS

I have the DVD+BD digibook (in fact, an additional copy is on the way from an Amazon preorder), but still waiting on my BD player hehe

Anyway the DVD seems fine PQ and SQ wise both excellent. Except that - for me - mixing-wise, I kinda liked how the center channel is largely silent on Arriving Somewhere. On Anesthetize Steven's voice is in the center channel but the clear channel separation sometimes makes him sound isolated.

If you have not got the disc yet, you can use my BD disc - let me know

Dear all,

I've already have Byond plus HDTV. Planning to purchase AV receiver and 5.1 speaker system. My question;

1) Can an AV receiver perform upscaling features 480/720 resolution
to a 1080 resolution (Astro SD signal to 1080 scale signal)? Does
anyone done this before? How's the outcome / side effects? Can
give brief info on how to perform these task/connection settings,
etc.
2) Whats the best budget AV receiver can perform the above matter plus
support 3D features (HDMI 1.4) Note: Later change to 3D TV but not
too soon...

some AVR can perform upscaling, yes

Look for the ones using Anchor Bay technology, like the new Pioneer VSX-920

If the channel gives us stereo then we can't give you 5.1.
I understand that. But Astro can give them feedback about their lack of 5.1. After all, Astro is their client.

QUOTE
The Astro world cup promo is mixed in 5.1, I think you need to tweak your HT audio levels a bit.  pulled down the surround channels a bit. It sounds fine and level with other promos on my system.
I do notice jumps between studio and commercial breaks but not jumps inside the commercial break.
*

My levels for all channels are fine. It may not be the promos but the World Cup result clips. And it was louder because I remember having to scramble to turn down the volume only for that. Well it's almost over now.

Yes it can. But if you have B.yond, you can't use the receiver to upscale because the B.yond decoder already handles that.
The effect is garbage in, garbage out. It only gives you the best from what it gets. So if you have a poor broadcast reception, then that's the best it can do.
Very few of the newer receivers have S-Video connections. Most would have composite, component and HDMI inputs.

What Siriusly said. The Pioneer VSX-__20 range can do a 3D FHD video bypass so that's one line you want to look into. The higher the model in the range, the better its upscaling capability. Right now, the VSX-1019 (the previous non-3D line) is selling for RM3500. So the VSX-1020 would sell at about the same price once it comes out; expected arrival August after the KLAV show.

OT : Until I saw yr previous avatar, I had not heard of PT, but I listened to some samples and like what I hear. Was planning to get the BD but with the mastering would like to wait to see if they re-issue. Maybe u can PM on their better albums so I can get the DVD-As for now.

How about Denon AVR 1911 (does perform similiar performance as the Pioneer VSX-...20 series)?

Another small problem is sometimes my byond decoder have "electrical leakage" (get minor electrical shock) and afraid might damage other AV equipment and produce "noise" electric if not mistaken. How about if I ground (use separate green color cable)- tied wire cable between skru and decoder casing and ground it via 3 pin plug (Modified by cut off 2 pin plug and use 3 pin plug and cable tied together). Is it o.k?

you can manually record anything by using the TV Guide to highlight a show. Series linking will be ready very soon.

But I got a series linking on my recording schedule, but don't know whether it works.

When will it be ready ? 'Soon' can be few years if we talk about ASSTRO.

if you are asking the guy who is writing and testing the software, perhaps it would be good to be a little polite.

In fact if you don't really know who you are talking to, does it give you a license to be rude?

Questions from me:

1. Are the HD channels currently offered don't come with subtitles?
2. I got 2 accounts on dirrent house, 1 B.yond and 1 Standard, is there anyway to purchase the new sat dish and receiver to replace the standard one so that I can move the Astro B.yond decoder to the other house and watch it?
