in the context of this thread being Astro Byond - my question is cautionary as people are eyeing a 3DTV just for the WC finals alone.  It would be more interesting to see what future 3D features Astro has in store.

on a wider perspective, i still think its premature to buy the current batch of 3DTVs, in relation to its price and the supporting softwares available.  it would make more sense to buy it when 3D softwares (movies, games, etc) are more widely available and that would also be the time when the prices of 3DTVs would be relatively much cheaper and better 3D models are developed.

It does take coordination because the chain and Astro have to iron out deals; in return, Astro have to iron out deals with FIFA. So get it going quick and fast. Hopefully, Astro can provide a separate 3D 1080p25 feed to the cinemas.

Once Astro and the chain have established this relationship, future LIVE broadcast of not only 3D sports but also concerts can be arranged.

Well if you have a PS3, 3D games are already out. And 3D BDs are slowly coming; first title available is Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. If you have the money, why not?

Astro does not have any rights to broadcast to a cinema. If this is to be shown in GSC then GSC have to get the rights and they have to organise how the feed is delivered to them.

Thanks for the quick update, TJ. If that's the case, then I have low expectations of Malaysian 3D halls will be used for the World Cup finals.

if you just turned on the decoder it can take several minutes to cache the first load of the EPG. It scans from channel 101 down from the first available time slot ie 101 - 1pm, 102 - 1pm 103 -1pm etc then it goes back to the top and scans the next time slot.

Thats the way to do business anyway ! However my opinion 3D is not needed now , giving more HD channels and giving a variety of HD content shld have been a priority , rushing to 3d is just like trying to be a jack of all trades but masters of none ! Are ur Beyond customers happy, did u ask them wat thay wanted, wat great channels do u think u hv given us,was a survey conducted and now why rush to 3D ?!Why is Discovery HD held up ?
Another thing for Bro Tall Justinn to look into, I hv raised this matter earlier, if I press channel 558 why cant the decorder go to the nearest availiable channel then to display the " channel is Not availiable " we cant memorise all channels right, pls bring back this feature pls. I wonder why many good features like this we had earlier hv been removed hmm.gif

What if the EPG is not having the latest show? e.g. upto 7 days. Can I put it into standby mode after watching the shows or do I need to off and on the decoder?

if your decoder is on it is not an issue it is only when you turn the power off and on again.

Hi Talljustin,
Can you guys from Byond software team, give back the function for manually record and set the own preferrable title for the program that i wanna to record, just like what MAX available some time ago... notworthy.gif

and series recording for PVR seems so "rubbish" (sorry if i use strange word here)... I tried to record from series linking, but it doesn't work at all sad.gif

TJ, 2 audio issues.

1) We're still getting 2.0 audio from AXN HD and FX HD while the other channels are in true 5.1

2) The Astro world cup promos are too loud, louder than the other ads and the actual program content.

you can manually record anything by using the TV Guide to highlight a show. Series linking will be ready very soon.

If the channel gives us stereo then we can't give you 5.1.

The Astro world cup promo is mixed in 5.1, I think you need to tweak your HT audio levels a bit. pulled down the surround channels a bit. It sounds fine and level with other promos on my system.
I do notice jumps between studio and commercial breaks but not jumps inside the commercial break.

Haha, I don't know mate. I need to repeat that I'm not part of that side of the business and I have no knowledge of things like that until they get announced to the public.

if astro can take advantage of PVR's hard disk and recording function, it will save a lot of transponders from repeatedly broadcasting same AOD episodes

no I think the announcement came too late for us laypeople to work on it. Perhaps someone at Astro Marketing could have sold this to GSC/TGV as soon as they knew they would be working on a 3D broadcast and way before the public announcement. Unless Astro themselves decided late that they had the capability.

I think that many people would buy a ticket if they knew it was going to happen, but i have no way of convincing the cinema operators, and theyw ould take time to get the rights ironed out.

Sony made the announcement last year that they would be capturing this in 3D... they would have sorted out the public viewings a long time ago.

Such a waste, because the number of people who will be able to watch this would be miniscule. Even you guys would advise against rushing out to buy a 3D TV just for this, and make that decision within 2 days. So it's just the few guys who already have a 3d TV...
