Added on tongue.gif tongue.gif Some personal recommendation by astria for 14" laptops

QUOTE(astria @ time unknown)
Multimedia : 1) Asus A42Jv, 2) Lenovo Ideapad Y460, 3)Sony VAIO EA16

- Best GPU u can find for a 14", so it's down to personal preference of brands and warranty. A42Jv basically stunned everyone, stripping off the fancy stuff, and slash rm1000 from the price tag. Y460's price has been decreased time and again which still makes it a good buy. Vaio EA16 is still worth considering, especially if u love to choose the colour, but lacks features compared to Asus N82Jv, and given the price of the other 2 models, unless you are a Vaio lover, you probably won't be looking at it.

CULV : 1) Acer Aspire Timeline 4810TZ, 2) Asus UL80Vt, 3) Dell Inspiron 14z

- why not UL80Vt??? to me, a CULV with integrated graphic is more than enuf, since the most demanding it needs to do is probably HD movies only. Intel GMA is sufficient for such jobs. but why UL80Vt second? due to performance:price ratio... sure Inspiron 14z is cheaper, but 4810TZ offers the same spec as well... Basically no changes since we have yet to see the ULV CPU from Intel.

Value : 1) Acer Aspire 4551/Toshiba C640D-1004U, 2) Acer Aspire 4741G/Compaq CQ42-189TX, 3) Dell Inspiron 14

- this segment is pretty interesting, we have a number of ties here. Aspire 4551 and C640 are downright dirt cheap. Add Windows and upgrade to 2GB RAM, and they are still cheaper than the 2nd place machines. New 45nm AMD 25W CPU with Radeon graphic are decent enough for everyday computing, but take note C460D has only 2 USB ports. Aspire 4741G and CQ42 come with Core i3 and dedicated graphic card that will give better performance and allows for some light games. Inspiron 14 is backed by Dell's excellent warranty service at a low price, albeit using Pentium Dual Core which lacks HTT compared to Core i3.

Work : 1) Asus A42Dr, 2) Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820TG

- this is a new category, for those who are looking for a machine to do work like Photoshop, but still prefer 14", without breaking their wallet. A42Dr is a clear winner as it packs a AMD Phenom II x3 inside the chasis, better than the dual cores with HTT, but not as expensive as a quad core. TimelineX 4820TG is in the list as well as it's a light machine with great battery life, ideal for those who needs to move around often.

budget RM 4k , read this..

hey  guys,

looking for a laptop of budget about RM2000

used for general multitasking, net-surfing, music, play abit of Sims2.

Its for a girl owner.

Was looking at Inspiron 15, anymore suggestions?

Thanks!
*
Do you make video of your sims 2..? want to play sims 2 in high graphic setting..?
if yes.. you need performance laptop[better processor]

well..
I suggest.. you raise your budget a bit.. and get Dell Inspiron 14R for RM 2199[i3 330M + Intel HD graphics]

or even
Asus K40Ie for RM 2099 [T6570 + Nvidia 310M]
Lenovo G450 for RM 1999 [T6570 + Nvidia G310M]

Dell Inspiron 15[T4400 spec] is consider good actually..

Acer 4745G i5 430M + HD 5470/GMA HD]

QUOTE(ABC9999 @ May 30 2010, 02:56 PM)
Any laptop recommendation for the below listed requirement???

1. Brand.... Dell, Asus, Sony, Lenovo
2. Budget....<RM8500
3. Specs....strong graphic display & fast processing
4. Size.....14" or smaller

Major use; photo editing, CAD design & others 3D software for data processing... also for watching movie & games at night time~~

so far I found that the sony vaio z series; VPCZ116GG/B quite close to my need, wanna know is it a good buy? what's the latest price? also, are there any others brand which have the similar spec & small size? coz I need to travel a lot... thanks.
*
yes VPCZ116GG/B is really a good choice... its around RM 7.8k only... and it is slim + weight about 1.38kg only...
it has 128GB SSD which can guarantee faster processing... + 6GB RAM + GT330 with CUDA technology for your graphic work thumbup.gif
it is also Full HD too.. but.. it lack of BD player[its okay for me]
i5 540M seems okay...
yes.. it is really a good choice.. go for it..

or.. if you want quad core laptop..
you can go for Sony Vaio F117 .. the price is RM 7299..
it is i7-720QM laptop...means.. better processor...
compared to Z116, it lacks of DVD drive[but it has BD drive], it lacks of speed.. but it has better processor, it come with 500GB[5400rpm though] HDD

well.. your choice is better @ Z116

- RAM : 4GB DDR2 RAM (Upgradable to 8GB in the next 2-3years?)
- Graphics : Do not need a dedicated graphics card
- VGA/HDMI Output
- Preferably good set of speakers
- Ext Headphone/Mic 3.5mm Jacks
- 4 USB Ports
- DVD-RW Drive/Blu-Ray?

Laptop battery died within a year.

yes,. asus offer 2 yrs global warranty..

well Asus N82JV[i5 520M + GT335] one of the good choice too..its priced RM 3999

the Nvidia GT 335 with optimus technology is really good actually... but still lose than HD 5650 in term of directx support... it doesnt support DirectX11 which is not suitable if u want to use the laptop for couple years.. and play newer games which require DirectX11 .. GT335 only support until DirectX10.1 ...

Lenovo Y460[i5 540M + HD5650] is still better choice..

it has better processor too...

so.. its up to you..

Lenovo Y460 [i5 540M + HD5650] , RM 3599 - better processor
Sony Vaio EA16 [i5 520M + HD5650] , RM 3999 - its VAIO !! , and has various color option[5 options to choose] , stylish looks
