My 5 sen advise from an old man :

If money is no issue, buy iPAD a expensive substandard tablet ; is a inbetween a netbook and a desktop with several limitations. Enjoy spending money with it while at same time enjoy all the frustrations and possibly spending more money ( buying apps ) to make it more enjoyable. As I am using the iPAD for the last 2 months, I can confidently tell you is an expensive TOY. Many might not agreed with me but that's how I see it. Buy it only if you have spare cash. The money would be better spend on buying or upgrading a notebook. Frankly I am shock that so many students are buying - their fathers must be generous and quite well off to allow such spending by their children. I will never spend such money. I don't mind buying a MacBook Air costing RM7k for my son but NEVER this. I told my children if they ever want this, go and earn the money to buy it.

If money is limited, I'd think you'll get more satisfaction buying a iPhone as it performs as aphone and its PDA features is acceptable as is meant to be designed as such

wa mac book pro 7k...then ipad how much ? btw i just change my phone from LG (dunno what model, anyway can call and sms only) to SE satio...i also have ipod touch 2g for surf web using wifi or 3g if i use satio....

No one can tell you which one is better for you. It all depends on ur need. like me already hv Omnia2 handset, which i can easily browsing but in small form factor and a bit slow for my opinion, i also got high-end asus laptop G51JX ordered directly from US and cost me more than rm 5k, but this laptop actually desktop replacement mean it not so portable and it used for my heavy job such doing some simulations. so now what i need is in the middle of this two, i need a good surfing device, means ultra portable and also faster web surfing. other apps such music, video, word processing etc. is bonus for me and it not in my 1st priority. so to compliment this two device i need an Ipad, Wifi version is enough for me since i can use my phone as wifi router via my 3g unlimited plan. so now if i go anywhere phone always with me and i can surfing with it, and also if i bring Ipad i also can use it for surfing. Iphone 4 also interesting for me but it is not in my first priority, why i need to buy another handset while i already got one. That all my opinions only, different person different perspective....

oh ya if i upgrade software for ipodtouch from OS2 to OS4 need charge or not?

EDIT: okay i found it, seems it is free..., i remember that time when OS3 introduced, i was kena charge USD 5.99 like that just for upgrade the useless-for-me OS...so that time i already stop downloading demo-apps for testing out...now seems OS4 is free then i can download apps for test for fun.... (my ipod touch is 2G 8gb only)

there are a lot of new reports indicating that the death grip only occurs in the US due to AT&T poor network. those is other countries doesnt experience this issue. and those already using iphone 4 locally say no problem

i agree with mjoe. ipad seems like something to buy only if you are satisfied with ur phone and laptop. if u need a better phone or laptop, get one 1st. if no, then an ipad is a good choice to fill in the gap

i should tell my current "gadget" so everyone have a better image of me.

Phone: Sony Ericsson Satio , mainly for call, take snapshots photos... sometimes for surf web under wifi...(don't want subcribe 3G because i almost everyday got use internet in home)
*most important thing is i use satio not even 1 year XD , if i change to iphone 4 later my parents sure kill me.
Music player: Ipod touch 2G 8gb, mainly for music (music quality somehow feel not really good if i use better headphone, partly i listen to anime song), so far this one surf web is better than my Satio, even thou resolution is lower a bit compare to my phone, but it is still smooth compare to satio.
PC: window based pc, play games, facebooking, read some news, check mail, drawing on PC....(save paper, i long time didnt draw on paper)
laptop: none

that's why for iphone i still cannot think why i need for that since my satio + ipod can replace most function of the iphone that i use...

I think most people especially techies are rather harsh on the iPad as they have locked in a certain high expectation for the device. Apple has never promised an alternative for a laptop nor a computer, but it has always maintained that the iPad is one of the best ways to experience the internet, photos and videos. Having used the computer for many months in my life, i have used it for gaming, designing, internet browsing , word processing and many more tasks. BUt nowadays, i come back home from work and turn on my laptop to surf.

A computer is a computer while an ipad is an ipad.

I bought it for my wife and she has been of her laptop ever since. This is because i know that her main objective of using the laptop was for Internet browsing. The very fact that she does not do programming, use design softwares or decode videos gave me no headache when weighing whether to buy her an ipad.

I still use my computer, but when i'm in bed at night i would usually borrow her iPad and browse the internet with ease. It is i must say a breeze and a pleasure to use and to me worth every cent.

Is it a toy?

It is not an toy,expensive yes, but it is just another platform for internet users, especially simple internet users. Yes you can buy a cheaper netbook, but i must say that Ipad is different. Just make sure you make an informed decision before you purchase it. Buy things that you will actually use, not just because its cool.

Occasional simple gaming and watching vids is an added bonus
Just hope for a stable release of frash will complete the internet experience.

Went to Epicentre @ Wheelock Place and The Ion (Orchard Rd) and both stores didn't have stock. Next week perhaps.

Anyway visited Sim Lim Sq and Far East Plaza, those "gray" shops are selling the iPad at $100 - $200 markups!!! Dang...

A markup of 100 to 200 is fair. I will not mind paying if I do not want to wait.

By the way, my flipboard account activated today. Did not realize how good it was until I felt the experience reading my tweeters feed and facebook entries. I would be willing to pay for it . A highly recommended app all iPad users should try. Grab it while it is still free.

Yes Sir, got mine activated too. Although experience some hiccups i.e. content not available few times. But after few retries, it works. Looks like all status updates much more interesting. Especially the photos that posted by friends . Highly recommended.
