If im not wrong, IRAS calculate your annual income, end of 2010, your total income less than 22k, you don't have to pay tax.
*
That's right, they calculate the total income for the whole calendar year.

My friend worked for around 181~182 days, contacted IRAS before his last day of service, and was asked to stay in SG for few more days to make it 183 days. Eventually he got his $ back. I guess it's on case by case basis.

My company just hired a new Tech Service & Development Engineer. The chap was in KL and moved to Singapore to join us. We gave him 2 months stay at a serviced apartment at Cairnhill Rd and one-off relocation assistance of roughly 1-2 months salary. The cash was paid to him on the first day of work so that he does not have to wait until pay day to get money to pay deposits for rental, buy necessities etc.

As for joining bonus, my company does sometimes pay for experienced hires. It's usually based on the value of stock options, deferred shares, deferred bonus, long service bonus, long service leave etc that the candidate had accumulated from his previous job.

For those chaps whom we really, REALLY want to hire, we'll give them an additional bonus to compensate them for the loss of service years at their previous job. Usually 1 month of salary per year of service.

More like very expensive.

But if you're hiring someone who's mid-career, and who will lose $200K of deferred shares if they leave their company before those shares vest... it's pretty hard to entice them with a simple 20-30% salary increase. Even if you give them a 50% salary increase from 10K to 15K, it'll be 40 months before they just start to break even.

The name of Tech Service & Development Engineer seems to be a normal range engineer but however the amount of 'extras' paid to him is worth very high value... May I know what range of salary would he be expecting ? any idea ?...

He's getting around 5-6K, based on his job level. He's late 20s-early 30s.

Btw, this guy didn't get the joining or additional bonuses I mentioned. A bit too junior for that.

By 29, I had 8 years of full time experience. Why do you only have 5?

Graduates these days generally come out at 22-24, so 5 years by 29 means he graduated by 24, probably a 5 year course? (1-2 years STPM + 3 years degree perhaps?)
