This thread has been dormant for a while. I would like to check if any of the current car owners of PAKAR scheme above 2 years, have you sold your car.

Car to share the procedures. What is the resale value of a similar car make & year compared to those under PAKAR?

the amount of tax to be paid depends on the current value of the car determined by the customs. the most accurate is to get a quote from customs, which is what you did smile.gif

Not sure lol as I have yet to sell my car

You can enquire at any custom office and they will direct you to the correct department.

Just wanted to ask other successful REP applicants. I too am a returning expat but my application was rejected because I had filed my income tax return for last year using Form BE. I simply declared Rental income like a good citizen. But on that grounds they disqualified me saying that Form BE is for local residents. And hence it means I'm local and cannot qualify as non-resident. The truth is I used Form BE because I didn't know I was supposed to use a different form as I thought all Malaysian citizens use Form BE for non-business income. So I was actually disqualified on technical grounds.

Anyone with similar experience can please shed some light for the benefit of other future applicants too.

Hi all,

Just got back to Malaysia and was pleasantly greeted with a change in government and a 5 day long weekend. I've already started hunting for the car with REP. Cars which made the shortlist and their prices are below:

Volvo XC60 T5 Momentum - From RM299k to RM211k (winner)
Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P - From RM168k to RM158k
VW Tiguan 1.4 HL - RM170k to RM145k

Was wondering whether I should wait for GST to be abolished before buying as Sales Tax was exempt under REP (please correct me if I'm wrong)...

When SST is imposes. You “may” find car price slightly more expensive.

Prior to transfering the ownership of the vehicle, you would need to pay up the remaining excise duty for the car, you would need to go in person to Customs dept with the REP approval letters and your vehicle registration card for an invoice on how much is remaining. They normally revert in a week. Once you pay up, the JPJ system would then receive a notification from them that your car is eligible for transfer of ownership (that you have paid the balance of excise duty).

The excise duty is base on the ccarrent market price right? How they gauge, is it same as insurance agreed value?

It's a reverse exponential curve so it will almost zero after x no of years.
Not too sure about the details though as the officers were not sharing details.

Thanks so much for the explanation. How old was your REP car when you sold it? Was the tax charged very high? Thanks.
