i am not the ap holder. just know someone who is. anyway she is already back, so there is no point for cbu cars coz she wouldn't be able to get it. only choice left is the ckd. she has already applied and gotten the approval before she was back.

So, how did your friend manage to find out which vehicle is is entitled to the tax exemption. It is difficult to find this information from the Net.

Called Proton and spoke to a season Proton dealer. They claim they do no support REP scheme. Too bad.

As for Honda, only City (-RM20K), Accord, Civic (non Hybrid) and CRV (-RM30K) are under these scheme. The rest of the model not CKD.

This is based on 2012 info.

Added on October 20, 2012, 6:09 pmFrom all the offers, I was most impressed with Volvo.#
Yes, people complain about the high prices of parts etc... but Volvo is offering Free maintenance for 5 years - including parts!

Imagine, you're on the way to Penang, and your car broke down in the middle of the highway. Call the Volvo roadside rescue and they will come to you - either give you a loan car so that you can continue your journey, or book a hotel for you if the need arises!

I'm officially a Volvo promoter!! haha

Volvo Launches Best-in-Class Coverage Plan
01/08/2012
5 year warranty, 5 years service and 5 years Volvo On Call for new Volvo customers

In its continued efforts to create value and provide a total luxury car ownership experience for its customers, Volvo Car Malaysia has launched an all new best-in-class coverage plan comprising a complementary five year warranty, five years service as well as five years Volvo On Call service.

The “5+5+5” offer is valid for all Volvo models manufactured in 2011 and purchased via its authorised distributor, Federal Auto Cars.

Volvo’s new “5+5+5” best-in-class coverage will provide Volvo car owners with peace of mind as well as the assurance of a worry-free driving experience.

This initiative is testament to the new Volvo philosophy “designed around you”, which is centered around understanding people and giving them a luxury experience that is a little more human-oriented, while at the same time anchored firmly on the Volvo heritage of building safe and dependable cars.

Volvo recommends regular scheduled maintenance service checks performed by authorised dealers to ensure trouble free driving experiences. However, should the need arise, Volvo On Call with onboard GPS technology is at hand to offer roadside emergency assistance and remote door unlocking. In the event of attempted break-ins, Volvo On Call Customer Service will be automatically alerted. The five year maintenance program also covers the first eight scheduled services at no charge.

For more information, please refer to your nearest authorised dealer. Terms and conditions apply.

i see. i am still undecided on what car to get yet and next year there will be a lot of new models i hope smile.gif

Well basically there are many car make you can choose unless you have a big budget allocation. Then again, even with the tax exemption, the car manufacturer is making a killing by increasing the price.

Here is a case for example

Honda Accord 2.4 - Publish Price RM174K
- After tax Exemption - RM115K
- Year End Discount - minus RM14-15K, so price is RM100K

How is it possible Honda Malaysia can give such a big discount unless they are still make a huge margin from their car.

do they give year end discount for REP as well? Since the car needs to be ordered instead of year end model?

I am waiting for new Honda Accord or CRV 2013 model coz i dont think they are giving discount for REP.

If that is so then, i might consider it!

Yes. But depends on dealer.

Well, at the end of the day, the pay in Malaysia is still low and does not commensurate with the spending for such cards even with the tax exemption.

Any idea what's the waiting period for the XV?

Coming from Tan Chong, similar to Nissan, the wait list should not be more than 2.5 months, provided you have all proper documents ready.

I don't mind waiting as my wallet is not ready for this yet. Haha. Slowly looking around and get the best deal.

Will post more info for the deals I found here hopefully will be helpful for others albeit the info might be a bit outdated.
*
You are right. When I started looking out, I had trouble getting the price and delivery lead time. Ended up, have to rely on Lowyat forum. Even calling the car dealership is a hit and miss situation. That being said, the price do fluctuate up and down depending on the time you intend to purchase due to price fluctuation/promotions.
add
Maybe we should have a link up with contribution from forum members and REP applicants to provide some much needed input for ease of surveying.

Let me see what I can come up with and hopefully community contribution will add more value.

Yes Rondo2 is CKD. Below is the list of MPVs that are CKD. Don't think  there is a  lot of discount though as MPV's are taxed lower. The most expensive CKD MPV is the Nissan Serena Highway Star range retailing at RM140k++

Nissan Serena
Nissan Grand Livina
Naza Rondo
Naza Citra
Naza Ria
Toyota Innova
Toyota Avenza
Cherry Eastar
Proton Exora
Perodua Alza
*
Chigme, where did you get your information from. For example, all Proton are not considered CKD under Talent Corp scheme. No excise and sales tax exemption will be offered by Proton.

Naza Ria already no more in Production thus, no one will be able to enjoy the tax exemption.

I received the final REP approval  letter yesterday. With it, Talent Corp gave me a list of full CKD cars provided by MAA and said I can buy any car in the list under the scheme. Proton/Perodua cars are in the list. I don't know how updated is the list as I saw Land Rover Freelander TD4 - 2004 in the list LOL.

Is this scheme worthwhile pursuing? I try working the maths:

Assume I bought a car that retails at RM150k with duties and tax elements of RM30k, meaning I paid RM120k for the car under the REP scheme.

5 years down the road, I sell my car off at market price then, say RM75,000 (50% depreciation). Buyer need to pay tax, and let say it works out as RM75,000/RM150,000 x RM30,000 = RM15,000. Theoretically I can sell at the max of RM60,000 after factoring in the top up tax element, or at even lower price for the tax top up hassle.

So in summary, under the REP scheme, I am out of pocket by RM60,000 over 5 years period whereas without, it will be RM75,000. Another advantage is lower initial cash outlay in the first purchase.

Conclusion, to reap the nebefits from REP, must get car with higher tax savings or use the car for as long. The question is, how many CKD cars out there comes with the tax savings of RM30k? If the tax savings is lower than RM10k, does it worth the hassle to buy it under REP scheme?

Don't bother about Proton. I think TalentCorp is up to date. I also thought so first when I saw TalentCorp website mention Proton and Perodua. Called several Proton sales agent and also Proton Care center and they have verified that no exemption is given.

I cannot confirm for Perodua as I was not interested at the time.

Different CKDs cars has different exemption in terms of price.

Here is a quick view
Nissan Teana 2.5 - Publish Price RM173K, After Exempt - RM131K - Savings RM38K
Honda Accord 2.5 - Publish Price RM173K After Exempt - RM115K - Savings RM58K

Out of curiousity I was surfing Sime Darby Motor website and read that certain Land Rover models are assembled locally. I called Auto Connexion to enquire and was told the Defender series are CKD and was told for the REP purchase, the tax rebate is around RM10k for both RM148k D90 SW and RM271k D130 SW, citing tax elements already very low  rclxub.gif

Sometimes, I wonder why this manufacturer even bother. RM10K savings to consumer is not much when they have to have to invest heavily on assembly plant. I think they never intended to source any parts in Malaysia, except maybe the tyre. Everything else is from original manufacturing plant brought in as parts and then assembled.

Just my 2 cents, go for the better known manufacturer who has more service centre and spare parts to avoid headache in the future.

Just saw some article, BMX X3 will be CKD. Before price is RM358K after RM330K. Not sure about excise and sales exemption, how much it will be but I presume within the RM200K region

Also those interested in large MPV, Nissan bringing in the new Serena.

Finally got my Honda Accord in less than 2 months. Surprisingly, it even came with tint from Eco Tint but I doubt it is security tint. Well, beggar can't be chooser. All cost slight over RM98k. According to SA, Accord 2013 somewhere in 2/3 qtr. CRV 2013 in March and booking already open although price unknown yet. But for 2013 cars it will take minimum 3-4 months since not many available stock at the yard.

Please read above thread to understand why it is so cheap. It does not apply for the masses unfortunately.

As the incumbent mention, in the next 2-4 years, the price of car will reduce a little, as promised. doh.gif
