Hi Everyone

Bro Jason: Yes, crickets helped of our FS to grow. That is our Fs version of 'maximizer".

Bro Ezi: Yes, I caught 3 males at Normant## Par# but too small. Was there for half hour only...so possibly have bigger males waiting to be caught.

Bro Ricky: Thanks to Bro Ah Kim, my team has been strengthened instantly. I did not stop there and hunted whenever I could. So, meet my new team member, Goober who came from the deepest jungle of errr... Mandai? Anyway Goober beat Rain and Rain had beaten P Ramlee a few times already. Here are the videos:-

Goober (Left) V Rain (Right) 040711

Goober (Right) V P Ramlee (Left) 050711

My current team:-

(1) Lollipop (ML)
(2) Edison (ML)
(3) Goober (Entry level ML by this weekend)
(4) Yakusa (entry level ML).

Now our teams (Ricky, Edmund & me) quite evenly matched. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, caught 2 ML sized female today. Initially wanted to mate them with Lollipop but changed my mind after Bro Ura reminded me to feed the female well before mating as they may bite the male. Still remember my last ML, Cotton Candy where I itchy backside train him with Evil Chopster and poor Cotton Candy lost a leg as a result. Well lesson learnt and FS mistakes must not be repeated. Also collected cricket present from Bro Edmund today and it came in a nice container with carrots, vegetable and a McDonald spoon. biggrin.gif

Hope to get another team member before the wekend.

Your Exspiderking

Randy

No Problem Bro Ricky, really you got the knack to edit/produce Interesting and Hilarious Videos, i enjoyed it very much.. smile.gif ..and not forgetting the first 2 fights posted above, sooooo funny also!! LOL.. laugh.gif

Nowadays some of your FSes are already like SuperStars in this forum(keep winning matches after matches rclxms.gif ), so it is Necessary to take some Macro Shots of them and post it for the FS Kaki's Awareness.. brows.gif

Here's the Photo of Fortress and Mugen:

So when's Hugo coming to Ura's FSFS(Fighting Spider Face Studio) for his Photo Shots..?
Let me know when he is coming, sure shoot some Good Ones for him.. rclxm9.gif
By the way here are some more Photos of a Newly-Caught FS, retained him becos of his Bluish Hue and to polish up my shooting skills.

P/s: yeah bro, very soon i will bring along all my FSes to visit ur FSFS ..tks in advanced.

Hi bro Randy,

Glad to know that you are still actively hunting even in rain coat thumbup.gif . At least either you or bro Edmund can still give some good work out to bro Ricky's fs. dont let him dominate wahaha.. cool2.gif

Very true of what bro ura said, bro mindstorm should have some videos for us of his fs caught in borneo (L size) but too bad lost all its leg when put with the huge female fs (9mm female).

p/s : is bro Edmund lost?

wei Bro Ricky,

I knew you will find a new spot soon, your hunger for fs is nothing but an inspiration to me thumbup.gif I hunted with bro mindstorm during lunch earlier and its really glad to see him coming back, hope to see bro viper joining us soon smile.gif

p/s : you are naturally talented making a SL size to a ML size fs thats why the chief fs dont want to let you catch ML & above FS, he scared if you get ML or L size will turn them to XL size or monster size then no fun for us already... tongue.gif

cheers,
Jason

First off, I must salute Bro Ura for ur excellent work in documenting ur Project SubOpp. Really detailed work which a lot of effort must have been put in. I can see it is really tough to be able to raise all of them to adulthood. Like my experience with Bhamoensis, for some unknown reasons a number of them would either die or won't grow well. What we need is more trials, different setups and experimentation with different live feed to learn what works better to raise Thiania.

Only this week found a bit of time to go hunting with Bro Jason. Last week had to play work catch-up after coming back from Sabah. Went there for a holiday to trek some jungles trails alone. Really tiring, even trekking one day from 7am to 4pm with only 1 bottle of mineral water, which I finished before even half way. I hoped to find some big jungle jumpers but unfortunately no luck but I did find many Borneo Thiania. The males were averaging 7mm and above while the females measured 8 to 9.5mm body length. Found many females, and caught only 3 males. One big male escaped there and I brought back the other 2 in hope to film them fighting here because I didn't bring my heavy camcoder with me. But alas, because I placed one of the males with a female, for some reason when I came back it lost 3 legs from one side! In the end, no fight. sad.gif
But I did bring back about 8 females and 3 batch of slings. The new born slings are way bigger than the new born T.bha slings as expected.
So now I'm trying to grow the slings. So far so good, only saw a couple died but many are eating well with fat tummy. I managed to feed them very small fruit flies. The females are doing ok so far. I tried to fight the females, but they don't fight, not only do they not show any display....in fact, once they see each other they run away... as if very scared!! I was shocked, so big but so useless? But then I also think, why must they run away as if very scared? They can slowly back off or move away like many other jumpers do. Very strange behaviour. Because I had many females I tried a few times...most just run away when see each other until I tried one of the biggest females...I put it in the nest first then I place another female to go in...the big female inside see with no stance...then immediately jump chop, as if trying to eat a fly! Wah... really different species, different behaviour. Will try to get in on film.

Here's some pics.

Leaves they are found in. Mostly in very thick and solid leaves and their webbing is strong because it is windy there.

An interesting jumper is this Thianitara species. It is definately very closely related to the genus Thiania as they also make nest in between leaves. Unlike the ones I found in kepong which is all black, the ones here have banded pattern which look a bit more like the Thiania markings, suggesting a close link.

The rest just some pics of nature I took for pleasure viewing.

Most awesome one is the long-horned beetle. They were huge and their antenna was extremely long as can see from pics. These fellas will make a funny squeking noise when handled or captured. They can't be reared as they specialize on eating the leaves of specific trees. I just took them down from the tree to take pictures and let them go back again.

Bro Mindstorm, that was really a Wonderful Documentation of your Jungle Trekking Experience in Sabah.. thumbup.gif The Borneo Thiania Species you caught they look like the T.Cam Species which Bro Ricky caught in Cameron Highlands so much?!?!?!?!?? rclxub.gif Are they the same actually..???

Thanks Alot for the Many Awesome Shots of the WildLife there.. rclxms.gif The Thianitara Species looks Very COOL also~.. smile.gif ..in fact his body structure sort of resembles the T.Red Species found in our P# also..
Are you keeping him also..?

Do update us your Progress in rearing the Borneo Thiania Slings.. In fact currently my side isnt the same situation as i posted that time.. from a total of 18 Slings i am given/started with, only 1 which was killed accidentally by me at a very early stage when my Slings-Rearing Experience was still very shallow.. so to make it 17 Slings to start, until now only left 6-7 Slings are the Most Promising to make it thru to 6th Instar and above.. which i believe there shouldnt be any problem for them to reach the Final Stage(the 8th or 9th Moulting[Max]) also.. 3 of them have just reached their 6th Instar recently, body length at about 5+mm, comparing to the time they were just hatched, they had already expanded themselves for 5 times in a mere 2 months time.. However so many Slings were either sick on the way or would have been able to survive if were given more choices of food sources for them.. but i also realise those who can always make it to eat well and moult well are those really Early Birds who hatched from the egg sac.. like the first 3-4 Slings that hatch.. biggrin.gif

Yeah what you mentioned is very True.. smile.gif

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Some Latest Photos of BB02, 03 and 04 to share.. 3 of which are now in their 6th Instar(meaning they had already moulted for 5 times since hatching).. this is quite a Special Instar for T.Sub Slings.. in a way that after this Instar they wont be moulting so often(for my record so far, the Slings took shortest 2 months to 2 months few days time to reach).. Bro Xarms told me it will hence take around 1-1.5 months time for each subsequent moulting.. but in SG it should be slightly faster than that so let's see how.. and in this 6th Instar, their Colors/Lines on their Abdomen and Top of Head are really getting more and more Obvious.. some Slings are born to have more Colorful Stripes some just look more Plain(which are believed to be Females).. Appearance of the Pedipalps are still the Same for all.. Well, Time really Flies i think.. smile.gif

once a FS kaki, always a FS kaki. No wonder your camera shots are so good! I was thinking, 'wow, quite impossible for bro ura to take this shots without using photoshop.' LX 3 is a great camera! I've always wondered how you care for the slings. I tried keeping a tarantula sling, Aviculiar Versicolor. 2 slings died on me while moulting. Seems like singapore weather doesn't have enough moisture like the rainforest

once a FS kaki, forever a FS kaki. Haha. No wonder, i was wondering if you were really using the canon ixus to take this kind of shots, you must have very good photoshop skills! LX3 is a very good camera. I went for the canon s90 which looks nicer but doesn't take as nice pictures as the LX3!
*
Hahaha.. so now you know the Truth.. rclxm9.gif ..actually my Canon Ixus's Flash Shots are rather Glaring to the eyes.. all these Photos taken with LX3 are also Flash Shots but they just look so much more Natural.. just checked up Canon S90, the Design looks Cool man~.. Good Choice! thumbup.gif ..is it also a kind of Compact DSLR Model..? actually LX3 alone wont be able to produce such effects in my Photos.. the Powerful thing is the Raynox Lens MSN202 which i was sooo lucky to have chanced upon it while surfing for more info some time ago.. perhaps the 2 of them do produce Synergetic Effects on MacroPhotography.. furthermore it is much lighter in weight and also cost lesser.. biggrin.gif

This is the website which i purchased it from: McGill Deluxe Macro Package for Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3

Before discovering this Powerful Accessory, i was actually quite despaired at a point of time that i might have bought the wrong camera.. but once i saw Luke Chua's Spiders Photos i was sort of "Rebound from the Hell to Heaven"..!

Luke Chua is a very Professional MacroPhotographer on Spiders, do take a look at his Photos here:

QUOTE(evil_educator @ Jul 7 2011, 11:42 PM)
actually, i am very curious, how are you able to moult the slings? does any of the slings have any difficulty in moulting which usually leads to death.
*
All i have to do is to let them drink and feed them well everyday.. when it is time they are able to progress to the next stage they will moult automatically.. and i realised they dun moult in the afternoon of the day, only will choose to moult in the early morning or late evening.. the Greatest Worry is when they dont eat regularly.. in fact all the Promising Slings will eat almost every single day.. from abdomen size smaller than the head.. i will feed until it is 2 times the size of the head.. and just a day before the actual moulting process their legs especially the front part will turn unusually blackish.. till date none of the Slings has died during the moulting process.. they will usually stop growing when they start to lose their appetite.. slowly getting weaker and weaker and then just RIP one day.

Keeping a Thiania Sling will get easier and easier as they grow to bigger size.. one of the First and most Essential thing you need to have is the LC worms.. but not only the Bigger size worms, you must have lots of Babies LC worms, if not found in the container then a easy way would be to put lots of lotus seeds for the LC Beetles, they will feed on it and lay many eggs in a short time.. then also get a 0.5mm Sieve(those used for tealeaves, can be found at Daiso) to filter out the Tiniest worms you need to have, pour it out in a wide surface basin.. that is the size for a 2nd-3rd Instar Sling.. and it is gonna to be very tiny.. only 0.3-0.5mm in its Body Width.. while searching in the basin got to use torchlight and scoop it up with a coffee spoon.. gradually when they reach their 4th Instar and onwards, things will get much easier cos you can also start feeding tiny crickets for them.. Apart from the Time and Effort needed, it is definitely a very Good Test of a Person's Patience and Love for the Forever Beautiful and Cute Jewels/Gems of Nature.. smile.gif

Hi Bro Ura,

First of all I salute you for your endless commitment to care for the slings, secondly your patients for bringing them up from eggs and feeding them daily, lastly your photo taking skills. these are remarkable evidence of your enthusiasm towards fs and they go way beyond my par rclxms.gif

Talking about lc worms, their skin seem a bit to hard to penetrate, thats the reason why my fs dont like them too much. the young ones are too small to be notice by them. when feeding them lc worm, i normally take twice the time compare to baby cricket feedings.

Hope to see a full white face of your babies soon thumbup.gif

cheers,
Jason

Hi Bro Jason,

Thanks Alot for your Kind Comments.. smile.gif
Actually keeping Slings is a Very Fun-Filled and Meaningful FS Activity which i'll encourage every Kaki to try out should they have the Passion and Time available.. when you see the Slings eating well and growing well day by day, it is already a Kind of Happiness/Satisfaction you wont be able to get elsewhere.. and not to mention when you see their Beautiful Colors slowly coming out week by week, is even more Shiok..! ..for a start maybe can just try keeping 5 Slings.. wont be very hard.. what really takes time is my Daily Photography session and Documentation of all the Dates for when they moult and stuff.. try to choose those Early Bird Slings who hatched out from the Egg Sac.. they tend to live better in Captivity i realise.. smile.gif

Actually when you just caught a Male back, try to feed him with just LC worms in the first week.. cos newly-caught Males are usually very skinny, small abdomens and etc.. they'll tend to be less picky on food.. they will eat most food that is offered to them.. so just let him get used to it.. cos if they get used to the crickets first, later it will be hard to persuade them to eat the worms already.. also when a FS is hiding in its house, like the dry leaf we use to fold their house, they will tend to eat whatever is dropped in front of them rather than them walking pass in an open area while seeing their preys.. cos a FS'll tend to be more protective of itself when inside its house.. smile.gif

Nice jungle trekking and fs hunting outing u had there, bro Minstorm. Lotsa interesting pics also.. the blue beatle have look allike human face abit..look scary shocking.gif

The Borneo Thiania looks like Genki with its leg stripes. Male 7 mm and female abt 9.5mm? Wow ... the females really large size.
Too bad the male thiana leg get bitten off ... i feel its because the female thiania is a chopster/pregnant or ...maybe in angry mood. I also experienced it bfr for strong T-bha male fs put in 2gther with female FS... the male ran off very fast like seeing ghost.. if u read my earlier posting.. the male FS is HOPE.. lol
Maybe u can try spar the other male Borneo Thinia with normal T-Bha male FS to see their fighting patterns.

Yeah bro Jason, i can see u are very actively hunting for FS as well. Theres one video u put alot fs together and some crazy fierce fight recorded with one of fs arms get bitten till bleed. Can see u caught alot of FS and most of it are either partial chop/full chopster. Maybe u can sort out the good fierce fighters and give few days break for them and later might be able to record much longer and exciting FS fights.

Bro Ura also actively keeping track of all his other thinia species spiderling growing process and post beautiful spiderlings pics.
A well done effort rclxms.gif

I've just chg job to another Engineering dept recently and still bz learning new technical work stuff, etcs. Work & trainings during weekdays and by time go home already dark... Weekend just rest and go out awhile only. No hunting FS anymore but still enjoy reading this FS forum kakis activities and see the videos uploaded.

Thanks for sharing and keep up the excellent effort! thumbup.gif

Wow..another lone Ranger but this one in higher class version. (bro jason,it doesn't meant u're low class ok..) tks for sharing lots of nice photos with us..I personally like the most of long-horn beetle not becos of they're in mating..the face really looks like my childhood super hero "mask-rider" 幪面超人..
The sabahan species that u caught quite similar with T-cam i found in Cameron highlands,or they r actually the same species? Same thing happened to me while i hunted in c.highlands most of time saw females, found only one male with 7-8 females in same plant..I suspect female will makan the male after mating in this species, remember the bigger male that jason passed to u?I don't even see it when i open the small leaves/nest only saw two egg sac..cud it b one of the "egg sac" is actually wrapping a male inside for food/sling's food? or else i must be blinded can't see such a big male! watched some documentries on TV channel the female will eat male after mate but not sure would it happen to this species..

haha, after googling around, it seems like a Gasteracantha Sauteri, agree on the weird shape, usually either it's yellow or red/orangy(smaller size)
