Don't get cheated by their famous slogan - World's local bank.

It seems like they're not that "local" as they claimed to be.
laugh.gif What do you mean anyway ? But indeed they are not big all around the world. They do however maintain pretty big presence in all the countries Malaysians frequent such as Hong Kong (obviously), UK (in England & Wales mainly), USA (New York State), France (inside Paris mainly), Canada etc. It is also some of the largest banks in Mexico, Brazil, Turkey and Argentina.

SCB the best.. the rebate is just 0.5% (so so) but instantly credited. They also give me RM100 which is more than enough to offset 2 years of GST. You even get points ontop of the rebate which is similar to Alliance Bank Younique.
What card is that drool.gif

is CIMB bank recognized in aussie?

Not at all. They only know HSBC and Citibank.

QUOTE(x3oNv3 @ Jun 5 2010, 09:17 PM)
how bout citibank platinum cash back? is the cash back suitable for overseas use?
It is a LOUSY card for overseas use as most of your purchases are likely to be in the other purchases category which earn you only 0.3% cash back.

really?! so my choice is only limited to HSBC and citibank if i want to use my card in aussie?

uhh, could some body enlighten this? unsure.gif
Credit card from banks that are big here but basically unknown to the Aussies such as Maybank and CIMB Bank can be used there. Even credit cards small banks such Hong Leong Bank and EON Bank are accepted. What important is your credit card carries either the VISA or MasterCard logo.

wanna ask about complimentary cards

for example we open current account with rm 200k, we can apply for credit card at some banks for example, hsbc

my question is: how long can we bring out all the money after we got the card?

pls advise  biggrin.gif
You can bring the money out anytime you want. All other facilities that come with the banking package you signed up for (HSBC Premier for instance) will be canceled right away too.

Using HSBC Premier as an example. You have to keep at least RM200,000 in your HSBC account at all times or else you will be charged RM150 account maintenance fee per month. Please note that this fee cannot be waived. You must make some deposits back into your account so that your account balance will at least meet the HSBC Premier eligibility criteria within the next 3-month or else they will downgrade your account to any account they deem fit for you (in most cases it is PowerVantage).

QUOTE(alexwsk @ Jun 8 2010, 09:02 AM)
i thk they'll cancel the card once ur balance drops below the level
No. They won't. Remember the 3-month grace period they grant you and each month comes with a RM150 fee. The card will only be canceled either when you voluntarily close your account or when they bump your account into a regular account.

Hi all Sifus! I would like to hear your sage advice!

I'm a 23 yo working adult seeking which CC to apply.

What I'm looking for is:

1) Flexi payment plans.
2) Secure with no hassle booking things
3) Good services. (Maybank is out of the question)
4) My salary per annum is 18000 range.
5) May use autopay for bills

Currently my eye is on Citibank and also CIMB. I still feel Citibank is my first choice.

Any thoughts on that?
CIMB Bank is probably more suitable for you.

Want to ask something here, recently saw the Citibank launch a Platinum Cash Back card in their website. Is there any requirement for getting this card? As I see no requirement page for this card, is this the card that is same as UOB One Card that claim themselves are "Platinum" standard but the requirement is RM18K annual income also can apply?
You have to be earning at least RM60,000/pa to qualify for this card. For their generic Platinum card, the minimum income required is RM100,000/pa.

Citibank sucks!  mad.gif  vmad.gif
They think their current fraud detection system is good enough hence they don't think they need to implement such system. Anyway, having this Verified by VISA and MasterCard SecureCode do not mean your card is safe. There are still many websites that do not require Verified by VISA and MasterCard SecureCode to allow a payment to go through.

Haha... I've already replied to them. Let's see what is their (non)response. Seems like the person responding is only support personnel  sweat.gif . Anyone has the e-mail addresses of higher-ups?
Yeah but safety is not my primary concern here. It's Amazon.cn explicitly requiring SecureCode to complete my transaction. There are other sites where I can make my purchase but still Amazon has the best deals.  tongue.gif
You mean Amazon China ? I did not know they require that as i thought all payments to Amazon are processed offline ? Amazon USA and Amazon UK do not require it.

thanks. is cashback really that useful ? i prefer earning points.
The CIMB Bank MasterCard gives you bonus points for every Ringgit charged on top of the discount (if applicable), For example, you'll get 10% off at Starbuck, ISETAN and much more and you'll still be rewarded with bonus points.

Is Citibank Cash Back Platinum really under Platinum level?
Yes. I believe so. Was just approached by a Citibank credit card agent and was told if i were to apply using an existing card, it has to be at least a Gold card with credit limit greater than RM10,000.

Hong Leong One Essential is everything 1% rebate? Anyway for all the cashback cards they don't have reward points right?
Except Alliance Bank's. It is the only bank that give cash rebate on top of points as far as i know.

QUOTE(Underhill @ Jun 14 2010, 12:53 AM)
If I only pay minimum payment for just one month, would that be bad for my credit record? I sometimes swipe for company, but only able to claim it on next month.
No. Your credit score will only be tarnished when you do not even make the minimum payment as written in your credit card statement.

Anyway, anyone got the recently launched Citibank cash back VISA Platinum yet ?
