guys, please. profanity is not tolerated here.

username jamestan had posted WTS/WTB posts 3 times in this thread and all those posts had been deleted out of necessity.

wpp188's question is discreet enough, it's not an advertisement. general questions like recommendations for sellers don't fall under the WTA/WTB/WTS rule. in fact, we can all freely discuss sources of good pets, good supplements, etc as long as they do not involve advertisements.

fyi and thank you.

hello.

what is your staple food for your star tortoise?

the info sheets, say all the non-asian vegetables.. mustard green, collard greens.. my market dont know those names.. ada malay name for those kah?

further reading.. star enjoys a grass staple diet, not those veges found in the store.. is our asian grass suitable??

the common diet i see after reading this TTT forum from V1 to V5. kangkong, kacang panjang & sawi.

correct me, TTT members please..

that's the common wrong diet LOL

beans contain too much protein, which would cause abnormal growth of shells and keratin parts (beak, nails). there was one sorry SOB from back then who intentionally fed his tortoises with beans just because he likes pyramiding.

ideally, they should be fed with high-fibered plant parts - grass, hibiscus, opuntia (go for spineless/glochidless species such as cochenillifera, ellisiana etc or those with few spines like ficus-indica, robusta, reticulata etc), dandelion, clovers etc.

since most keepers are too busy (read: lazy) to provide those, they improvise by providing mixed market green. adding some hay to the mix would be most beneficial. grass, any kind/mix would be ok as they are naturally grazers (just avoid alfalfa sprouts).

and of course supplements - calcium, D3 (depends on exposure to sunlight/uvb), vitamins etc to compliment their diet.

that is what i taught.. kacang panjang got beans, beans = protein. (been lifting weights so i know the protein, carb, fats ration on foods)

so those are the daily "staple" diet I should give them?? i dont think my "country" have such varieties you guys are having.. grass, hibiscus ok.. the others unsure.gif

You can get grass, hibiscus, opuntia, dandelion, clovers etc here no problem bro.

You just need to know where to find them.
