So has any members here declared their stuff?
When you declare, what does it involve?...only your name, proxy address & the species and number that you are keeping? Do you actually bring it to the local perhilitan or just take a photo of them? Just out of curiosity, what are they(wildlife) gonna do with the surrendered chelonians? Sell them back at a cheap price to public like in the past or put up for adoption? Maybe throw them in the wild or send all to zoo? Or more likely some underlings or senior officials might just keep them for their own & no one would know what happened to them. Taking in 500 torts and just say sending back 400 back to their original home(doubt it would be done..Madagascar/Sri Lanka/india duh??!!) leaves them with 100 missing that could go to their own home and reported as dead in transit. It's just so sickening to think you are surrendering ur pets to a bunch of goons that 1)cant be trusted 2)ur pets fate wont be any better & most will probably die either under suboptimal care or during transport. **reminds me of a story i heard that leopards confiscated at one time was all thrown into a water pool as the officers there thought they are marine turtles..can swim, all ended up drowned and died a cruel death** Pls keep updating any news you guys hear as only 2 weeks more to go. Thanks. We want to abide by the law but the law doesnt seem any bit sensible or fair in any sense sometimes. Just imagine if they said anyone with pirated DVDs/Mp3 must surrender all of it, if not get fined 100k if found...Im sure there are more heinous real crimes out there but they are not too active in tackling those, instead become interested in trivial matters that dont contribute to ppl's well-being/health and country's economy. |

QUOTE(wKkaY @ Jun 14 2010, 08:50 AM) Malaysia has many more serious issues to deal with when it comes to crime and economy these days.IMHO catching a few tortoise enthusiasts & the consequence of keeping some pet tortoises/turtles to the wildlife ecosystem is just too abstract for most ppl to appreciate as these are events that are at best speculative in the distant future. Just like banning everyone from driving on the streets as JPJ is worried about air pollution. **Perhaps forbidding nuclear weapons testing or curbing money politics would be more meaningful anyday! Or even decreasing the amount of street crimes eg simple snatch thieves whom we have heard can kill with their simple acts (Im sure more than 50% here have been a victim before to these petty yet potentially harmful acts). Anyway, these are just my $0.02 at this particular time, anyone can choose to disagree. Everyone has the right to his/her own opinion. QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jun 24 2010, 11:25 PM) Seriously? Wont it be too hard to ignore a 'keeper' with 90 torts declared?20-30 also seems like a lot already as the authorities are mostly not into this hobby themselves, thus would not understand the numbers. I would feel that they only expect 5-6 at the most hahaha. What if ur female lays eggs after you have declared, say another 4-6 eggs per clutch, and it's after 28th June, where do you go from there? Get a birth cert for them? This post has been edited by Omegaminx: Jun 25 2010, 12:57 AM |

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jun 28 2010, 08:39 PM) unless you weight more than 75kg, my guts are more yours. Leopard & Red Foot can be purchased from some legal shops, as such do we still need to declare them even though we have receipt as proof of purchase? Cheerssent in my form today, all 6 pages. crossing fingers while doing some write-ups to support Benson. thinking back, ini semua Azazel's fault.. if you had established 'the society' years back, we would've had a strong medium to channel our thoughts to the authorities, media, etc. (but then again, Azazel would blame Jalal, and Jalal will blame God) When declaring, did you list down the proper scientific name & cites category? May be better to pretend ignorant and leave them blank as if you fill in the animal as CITES I category, why are you in possesion of it in the first place. For those who dont know much about CITES then it's forgivable or perhaps it doesnt matter anyway. |

QUOTE(Blutangskink @ Jul 28 2010, 08:57 AM) You can always buy from registered seller or shop, they have license to sale tortoise, and makesure keep the receipt. Not quite true, if u know friends who are tortoise enthusiasts, you will see that they obtain a few of each species as pets and keep them separately..they may start off with 2-3 but then it grows on you after some time and they can end up having easily 30+ at home...If you only buy 1 or 2 as pet then it's look like pets...if you buy over 10 or 20 evenyou have license, sure Perhilitan keep on eye on you. Perhilitan OK if you don't do anything wrong...!! Imagine 6 leopards, 8 stars, 8 radiatas, 2 cherry head, 5 spiders, 4 sulcatas, 4 RES, 2 pancake, 3 emys etc...almost 40... Does not mean they are traders, chelonians arent so difficult to keep, you just need space and someone to take care of them..and of course the right diet, lighting and vitamins. BTW bro, what do u mean when u mentioned permit for stars is out. There is no such thing yet, not officially at least, any newspaper or website stating that? Or u just khabar angin from somebody? Thanks for updating us on this. |
