@Lucas

Wow, what assholes. Anyway, if the default gateway is the same but you cannot access the configuration.. its likely they may have changed the management port from TCP 80 to something else. Call them up and ask for the details. If they refuse to give you access to the unit, either just reset the router back to stock config (if you know how to reconfigure it) or use a port scanner on the router and check what ports are open.

And no, the webmail password is different from the PPPoE password. Both should be printed on your install slip though.

---

It seems that TM has upgraded their router firmware. Hardware box and stickers still say firmware 7.05 but it definitely is not 7.05 anymore.

As you can see, there's no http server banner anymore. Which means you cannot access your own router config. Furthermore, Lucas says they're not willing to give users their PPPoE user/pass combination anymore and you're forced to use a 8 digit pin combination on the back of the router as your wifi pass.

It looks like TM failed WPA security 101.. I wonder how long it would take to generate a rainbow table for an 8 digit wifi pin number. Furthermore, you won't be able to set port forwarding anymore. I also have no f***ing clue why there are random ports like POP and SQUID open.

I'll look into this soon. Its probably reversible smile.gif

Whats the point of not telling the customers their PPPoE user and pass? You're paying for the damn account and it's so bloody easy to intercept a PPPoE connection and grab the user + pass. Then their helpline will just act dumb and pretend they suddenly cant give you your own user/pass combination.

They're just making people suffer for an already overpriced service.

The biggest open secret why they are doing this to us. Security isn't top of their agenda mind.

Torrent = p2p

P2p = lots of bandwidth

use lots of bandwidth = eats into ISP profit margins

Invest in crappy router and give to users = p2p hardware throttle

= profit g_g;

ISP throttle via their network + crappy router that sux for p2p = they win we lose shakehead.gif

What next?

in the end, i think the best solution is to get your own hardware and let tm do whatever they want with the 615 for those that are willing to use it.

in order to use our own hardware we need our pppoe username/password.

rizvanrp, how easy/difficult is it to capture our pppoe username/password when the 615 is trying to connect?
is it possible to do?

I guess so. So people will have to buy a high end router + smart switch if they keep locking it up like this.

It's pretty easy to capture the user/pass. Either do a man in the middle capture by using a hub or set up a fake PPPoE server and let it connect to it to capture the user/pass.

I am planning to get the Unifi to replace my 1MB streamyx connection for my house. But after I read through your post, I have a question for port forwarding and DDNS. Currently, I set the DDNS so that I can find my house connection from outside. I also setup port forwarding for my DVR so that I can access my house CCTV. Can I do the same things after convert to UNIFI??

so i guess its a matter of connecting the wan port of the 615 to a pc lan port and run a program, yea?
is there such a program? can you write one, if not? icon_rolleyes.gif

@porty

Yeap, set up a pppoe daemon on linux.. or I could write one for Windows easily. I normally go for the hub or 2 NIC bridge man-in-the-middle method though.

@klgoh99

The DIR-615 router supports DDNS and port forwarding but if they lock you out, you wont be able to use those features. I'll look into it soon.

anyone here know any cafe/mamak/kopitiam giving free uniFi wifi? I know Kopitiam 23 in damansara perdana been providing free uniFi Wifi past 2 months ready, others ?

Lets make a list. So those who want to try uniFi can go to the outlet. This will also encourage business owners to install uniFi + WiFi.

1) Kopitiam23 - Damansara Perdana

Like @klgoh99, I have an IP camera that I want to use. If they won't allow me into the router settings to configure port forwarding and DDNS, I'm gonna ask them to go home when they come to install tomorrow! How can they do this?

I don't torrent much; never have more than 2-3 going. I prefer direct downloads. I use the wireless only with my iPhone and notebook, but I can always set up an extra access point if the DIR-615's suck. In my case, would the DIR-615 perform okay? I don't need a super high end router that can handle a large number of connections at once...

I suggest that you demand for it if they refuse. You paid for it so you deserve to have it.

Just make sure you set the wireless mode to B/G only since their DIR-615 is a 'N'-based wireless router..A crappy one that is..

What is the point if you have high speed connection and yet you can not do the basic things which can usually do in Streamyx?? Nowadays, DVR and CCTV is very common for most of the houses and Internet connection is to monitor our house any place any time just like the Unifi advertisement. But they lock the router, what a stupid move!!

@rizvanrp

Hope you can write a daemon for Windows so that we can capture the username/password. Thanks in advance.

Their trying to enforce all this shit on their users as a way to control them as usual. They did it once with the 1st batch of UniFi installations..but shortly after that we figured it out(eventually)..so now their enforcing it again by changing the password's and not giving the user the information. They've also done this with their IPTV service by enforcing users to use their set-top-box for IPTV which is also crap by the way(STB).

What I don't understand about TM is they always end up screwing things up just when their about to kick off...sigh..

But having an IP security cam setup is nowadays very common. How can TM tell ppl that they can no longer use their IP cams if they install UniFi?? I understand they want to control users, but if this is the case, then they will need another solution or risk losing a lot of customers!
