lets talk about paint brand and type, i am new on this and i choose to buy Gaia colors....why?

because i think Gaia got serious nice and the colors is "alive".... question is how to differentiate it is enamel or acrylic. Most of blog and site i read suggested enamel over acrylic for hand paint, and i can only do hand paint since AB kit cost a bomb....

can please share?

haha.. funny  biggrin.gif  cause i asked the exact same question to a seller where i bought the item.. and he said, "u can but not recommended.. because both are differ in composition." i don't know. u can try it for a personal experience. rclxms.gif  gud luck.. thumbup.gif

I did tried on a piece or two though not on purpose and the results turns out weird if not odd as if the composition doesn't mix well hence it looks very inperfect doh.gif sweat.gif thus the reason why i raised the question....anyway thanks for the help and clarification, notworthy.gif

It means the smoothness of the surfacer: the higher the number, the smoother it is.

Eg, if u r building something very glossy like a new car model kit, use 1200. normal gundam semi gloss, use 1000. doing rough surface like iron cast effect on a tank, use 500.

It's not a must, but it will ease things up.

very good question. lemme direct another question back to you, what is 'enough' to you?

kits already come with lines. a majority of people will just line em and be happy with it. as it is a mere line, it can only hold a limited amount of ink in it before it starts to overflow. so i guess, there is not such problem as too much ink in your panel lines.

if you're talking about scribing however, and adding panel lines, that's another story. the sky's the limit as to how many lines you wanna add. after all, it is your perception of nice ma..

Gaia is neither acrylic nor enamel. It's lacquer, i believe. As to how to differentiate them, you could usually tell from the name. It will usually say acrylic, aqueous, or enamel on the bottle. If nothing's stated, it's usually lacquer. I'd advise asking the shop owner where you bought it from for confirmation.

Enamel is the best for hand painting since it dries the slowest. You could still use acrylic/lacquer with some drops of retarder to slow the drying process.

I did bought the Krylon camo spray from ACE Hardware. Never tried it yet. Bought it because the green colour is nice.
The camo spray comes in many camo colours Parody eg dark green, khaki etc, not myriads of colours in one can tongue.gif

yup, mostly Gaia paint are lacquer based...
example how it look:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

since it is lacquer, it have smooth and good surface like spraying with spray paint type...
but it have strong smell, so please wear respiration mask while painting ph34r.gif

i usually go for lacquer since enamel is too slow to dry(about 10-24hours) icon_rolleyes.gif
acrylic i never try yet so i dont know how the good it is.. blush.gif

Oh I see. I thought it was already multiple colors in one can. Hahaha! I'm not even sure if that's possible. hmm.gif The label on the can seems to be misleading if you don't really read everything. unsure.gif

And here i thought it would be like the rainbow-colored gel pen, where it changes color as you write. Would be awesome if the camo spray worked that way. laugh.gif
