I just want to ask u something, im a new user of MBP.

How much it cost u to upgrade 320gb 4 the HDD?.
U sent to apple service center, or upgrade it by yourself?,
And it will not void warranty?

Thinking of partitioning my hdd to 3 partitions
1. MacOS
2. Windows
3. Fat32 - for both mac and windows to read

what's the best approach?

The one i thought of was to bootcamp it, set it to have a bigger partition then in windows, partition it to 2, fat32 and ntfs

320GB 2.5" sata drives are around rm150 for now. u can buy at any PC shops (i'd recommend hitachi or western digital) and install it on your own. u'll also need an external casing to transfer ur files etc, even cheap ones will do.

wont void ur warranty. u can find an upgrade guide at ifixit.com, juz make sure u get the correct screwdrivers

u can send to service center if u want, but of course they'll charge u lah. doing it urself is also a good chance to get to know ur mac on a more 'intimate' level lol

juz bootcamp like normal and install ntfs-3g would be enough. in bootcamp 3.0, windows can access the OSX partition too. if not juz install macdrive

btw for casings..i really like the fabrix cases biggrin.gif but im not gonna get it because it looks so nice, later i'll be tempted to get something to protect the casing instead haha

External casing, u mean external hdd?
*
nope. for most external hard drives (as in the actual hard drive plus a casing like WD passport, seagate freeagent etc), you'll void ur warranty if u take out the actual HDD inside it and swap with ur internal drive.

so buy a bare 320gb external hdd (e.g. WD scorpio blue, hitachi travelstar), and a separate USB2.0-to-SATA casing. put the new 320gb into the casing, connect to ur mac and clone ur internal harddrive. u can download Superdrive to do that.

when it's done (it'll take a few hours depending on how much data u got), take out the 320gb from the casing, then take out ur internal HDD from ur mac. install the 320gb into ur mac, and insert the stock hdd into the casing (so u can use this for something else later). done smile.gif

u can format the stock hdd since u dont need it anymore, but i'd advice u to keep it for about one month juz in case u run into any problems with the new drive

hmm.. i face this problem before too... let me share my approach and u see whether it suits u or not smile.gif

i didn't make any partition... i just make folders in my HOME(your name) folder or inside subfolders (pictures / documents)...
if u wanna gain quick access to those subfolders, u can drag it to the left sidebar / toolbar and a shortcut will be created..
all the applications installed will fall under applications category..

for windows, depends on what programs u are using.. if u really need to use a program that dont hv Mac version, then u can consider VMware / Parallel.. unless the programs require very high end graphic or very high processing speed.. then u hv to install windows via Bootcamp
For me, i have both tongue.gif , i using VMware bcoz i need to use IE.. then I install Bootcamp because i wanna play FIFA10 (my only game)..

For Fat32, i think it is quite unnecessary for me.. I install NTFS-3G so that my Mac can read and write in NTFS formatted drive and i dont need to access any files on my mac using windows.. just access to windows files tru my mac only.. If windows wanna read HFS formatted drive, just install Mac-Drive for windows..

correct me if anything above is wrong tongue.gif hope u get wat i mean.. biggrin.gif

Wanted to buy Foof but then cant wait longer... the whole mbp has no protection so i opted for the french brand, e.

The padding is very shock absorbent albeit it's not really a snug fit with some extra room inside. wish it's a snug fit.

Brother, I highly recommend you buy the Hitachi 320GB 7200RPM (7k320) Hard Drive, it is super fast. Write speed can go between 70MB - 80MB. My previous 250GB 5400RPM Hard Drive write speed only around 35MB. Currently I`m using it in my MacBook Pro. It will cost you around RM250 - RM280. laugh.gif

The Hitachi 7k500 premium one of course la cost an arm and a leg, but for me, I don't mind paying if the HD is good and reliable. Just go for the 500Gb 5400 rpm already enough.

I need to change my 500Gb WD to this hitachi la, WD making clicking sound. Had to use HDAPM to solve it.

@johny2k
U know where to get the Hitachi 7k500?
