Sucks man! I just bought a brand new MBP 13 from the Apple online store and just within 2 weeks, the battery has problems and can't be charged.

Called Apple's Support line and there were very good but still had to bring to Machines to service... and now they tell me that they will need 1 week to diagnose and another week to change the battery... damn!...

if Apple wants to take some market share from the enterprise segment, they better do a lot better in the services side...

if I had a dell, they would send an engineer on-site the next day to solve my problems....

just my bad luck I guess sad.gif
*
Yeah right ... I bought a high end IPS-Panel U2410 LCD monitor from Dell
and it came with a dead pixel. Called them up and I was told that it is Dell's policy that no replacement would be made unless there are 6 or more dead pixels. vmad.gif

Apple agreed to exchange my MBP 13" when I discovered a dead pixel out of the box. No beating around the bush. I am now waiting for the delivery of the replacement unit.
Called up Apple again today and it is due to arrive 4~6 June 2010.

When I sms-ed my gf that Apple agreed to replace the MBP 13"; she sms-ed back "That's so cool !! Screw Dell !!" . By the way, she's a Dell user.

My heart sank when I powered up my MBP 13 and saw the dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. My Dell U2410 had one dead pixel ... more or less at the same spot.

I am so happy that Apple agreed to replace the unit. I have convinced my bro and a friend to buy Apple thus far. Even my gf will be an apple user in the very near future. Now she hates it everytime she powers up her Dell Inspiron.

I think she really means it when she texted " Screw Dell !! "

@mememe12 All went smooth? Some people have problems doing installing their windows in bootcamp.... Maybe you could share the guide that you use... Good reference for people who are new to installing bootcamp =)
*
not smooth at all.. i installed Win 7 enterprise 32 bit

PROBLEM ONE:
when i create a partition for bootcamp, the partition cannot be formatted, i got an error saying that
"the disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved"

SOLUTION:
1) Install Onyx and do SMART scan.. then Onyx said that my disk dunno got wat (forget d) and i need to put in the Mac OS X disc to repair
2) Put in the Mac OS X CD and restart Mac, hold C when booting up
3) press next and DONT REINSTALL MAC, on top of the toolbar, choose disk utility, then verify disk, then repair disk
4) restart Mac and go into the OS, then make partition again, this time ok d..

some other solutions found on the net: (i didn't try)
a) install iDefrag (not free)
b) backup your OS, reformat the whole OS, restore and run Boot Camp Assistant again
c) put in Mac OS X CD, hold C while booting, then go to disk utility to make new partition, then delete the partition

PROBLEM TWO
when I want to start the installation, there is a problem saying that the drivers not found and no matter u press rescan or browse anywhere.. still not found

SOLUTION:
1) if u are in Virtual Windows, u can eject the CD and put it back, but in Boot Camp, u cant do it before u install windows and install the mac driver for windows.
2) restart the Mac and run the Windows 7 installation until the drivers not found didn't pop out, if lucky, maybe 2 or 3 times.. but maybe... (maybe because my CD is... u know)

PROBLEM THREE
After the installation, at the final step, "COMPLETING INSTALLATION", it looks like the installation is hang already, because need to wait until 20 minutes also nothing happen..

SOLUTION
1) just wait, i just wait for about 40 min - 1 hour.. then the Mac will show white screen for several minutes, then only successfully boot into Windows OS
2) I tried to force restart, but end up the windows crash and i need to install again and face problem two..

good luck to u guys... smile.gif

the completing installation took me about 1 hour..

ya! i met some problems in installing.

i partition my windows for 50gb last time but when it enters the blue screeen installation, it loads all the files and the setup starts..after the blue screen complete, they said my com will reboot in 15secs..but after 15secs,the blue screen instaltion restart all over again..then i google it and i realised they said fat32 partition cannot be larger than 32gb..so i try to partition 30gb this time but still the same problem..sigh!

Actually Dell's on-site service is really good. You don't even have to be in the Klang valley to get service. My friend's laptop had problems 2 months after purchase (bought in Low Yat) and after I made a call, a technician came the next to Seremban to change the motherboard on the spot. My other friend who had another problem with her Dell also got her parts changed on the spot for free - although her warranty had already expired by 1 month. I can't say the same for Apple, Toshiba and the others though.

Btw why did you bring your MBP to machines for service? I think if you bring it straight to apple service center like Sapura or VR it will be much faster.. Correct me if im wrong...

@nairud Maybe saturday within that half day you could get it if they work fast enough =) Btw whats the promised date that apple gave you.. Should be quite accurate...

Just sent my MBP for repair at VR tech. They quoted 3-5 working days. I believe is better than machine in terms of turn-around-time.

Yea it shouldnt lag with itunes... Should try updating all your softwares etc and maybe see how it turns out to be... As some might be causing the Mac OSX to lag....

@cheefai7 Yes definitely faster compared to Machines...

@nairud So you will get by 3rd then.. No worries Haha... Not all MBPs are defect units.... Unless you are unlucky then have no choice also.. Just send them back and get a replacement unit... Just have to play the waiting game again which sucks =(

@mememe12 Nice... At least if someone does encounter the same problem can read your solution =)

iWork is RM299. Office 2008 is double that.

macbook doesnt come with software to deal with Office documents. u can get iWork but sometimes the formatting will be messed up. Office 2008 is a safer choice

u can always opt for the free OpenOffice 3.0 to save money.

if u wanna buy a VM app (parallels desktop rm289, vmware fusion rm299) and have a windows installer, can go for Office 2010 beta free tongue.gif this is my top choice since u dun have to worry about compatibility at all
