the grooves are the catch for when they screw on the switch assembly, perhaps?  hmm.gif

p.s. when the tailcap is screwed on tight, the lanyard loop on the tailcap isn't perfectly aligned either icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah, like that. the u22 is just slightly off... but still off. don't think aligning it will compromise the seal. but it's way off on my u12. anyway, as long as it doesn't affect the performance, i'm fine.
well, hands got itchy and had to pit the u22 with the u12 the moment i got home. don't think i will need to tell you which beam is which, and you can compare the tints also. anyway, hope none of my neighbours called the cops sweat.gif

some initial observations. i'm really liking the feel of the mankers in my hands. not sure how to describe it, but they just feel really solid with well balanced heft. don't get me wrong, i like my olight s1r turbo. i like it a lot for what it is... a pocket rocket, and versatile enough to clip on my visor if i do need to. but the mankers feel like a proper flashlight. kinda like if i needed to think what to use, then the manker u12 would be my automatic choice. but because of its portability, in all likelihood i would probably have my s1rt with me instead.

yeah, not turbo. not even high. at 1m, high would've been a complete wash out. they were both on medium (u22 @ 250lm, u12@390lm). here's a combo pic for beam focus comparison (top pic l-r: s1rt vs u12; bottom pic u22 vs u12):

p.s. auto white balance messin' with the tints somewhat so just focus on the beams ya.

i have a new found respect for throwers. the u22 is an amazing thrower, relative to its size. i would say usable distance of approx. 100m out. it could be the atmospheric conditions that restricted its reach, but during my test night it lit a 3 storey building pretty well. no doubt the light reaches further than 100m, but by my reckoning, the illumination is less than satisfactory. anyway, imo, 100m is pretty good. personally though, the u12 is a more practical worklight for me.

i also learnt not to put lights with lithium batts in cars... not so much that they will explode... but heat shortens the life.

but what about energizer ultimate lithium? It will never leak and I don't think it'll vent in my car so far.

hmm nitecore has finally 'fixed' the UI with the new TUP... now long press on power button is direct to low.
now to wait for this to trickle down to a Tip v4 or Tini v2...
