If I'm not mistaken, olight I3E EOS does not have any battery polarity protection. Last time i was considering this but i didn't bought. Instead i went for nitecore tube since it has internal rechargeable battery. While it could not last for long hours usage but good enough for daily use.

Other than olight, you may consider other brand such as lumintop and jetbeam. Just head over to blf forum to find good discount coupon for these lights.

You could find it at here. Alternative look for sub forum under user negotiated deal.

guys,

i wanna get a mini torch for my key chain decided on this :

SALE OLIGHT I3E EOS LED 90 Lumens Flashlight (Black)
any good? believe it uses a AAA batt, i can just buy any energizer example batt off the shelf to use with this? or i need special batt?

also i wanted a EDC torch for everyday use, needed for work and didn't want those bulky type and i need to carry with me other tools

SALE Olight S30R Baton III CREE XM-L2 LED Rechargeable Flashlight
this any good? i read it;s recharge-able, if urgent , can i just use any AA batt ?

both are going for promo price at RM42 and RM270 respectively.....

want to hear from you guy's opinion before i commit to a purchase

If you don't need branded AAA lights, Astrolux A01 is good too

Olight S30R Baton is a good light if you can pay. It'll serve you well. But it is not an AA battery flashlight.
It uses a proprietary 18650 rechargeable battery (included I think) so you're stuck with one battery for it only unless you buy spare from olight

Not problem at all. I'm guess very soon you would embark journey of pursuing those true light using 18650 battery and perhaps i could suggesting you to consider convoy s2+ as starter.

Olight i3E is OK, but I like the older single mode Fenix E05 more (I carried both with my keychain). If bright and small is what you're looking for, the i3S-cu is even better.
You do not need special battery, any good NiMH and Alkaline AAA can power up the i3E, but i3E truly shines if you run it with a lithium primary AAA battery (Lithium primary, NOT LiIon 10440) for longer sustainable brightness at 90 lumens.

Olight S30R III is a good flashlight, however, you need to take note that their Magnetic Charging Tailcap can and will attract ferrous metal object (including dust) and it will ignite a fine steel wool.
You can't use any AA battery with S30R III tho, but you can use any button-top 18650 battery with the light, and not just the proprietary Olight 18650, however, using non proprietary Olight 18650 battery means you cannot charge the battery in-light, and need to use an external charger to charge the normal button-top 18650. But as a "side-effect" and benefit of NOT using the propriety Olght 18650, you also won't face the problem of accidentally igniting a fine steel wool as there will be no live current running through the expose charging contacts at the tailcap if and when shorted.
Also, with Olight S30R III, you get the Micro-dok included in the package that charges at 1A instead of the slow MCC cable that's included in other Olight's rechargeable lights. smile.gif

hmm...i've tried the i3s-cu and on high it is actually dimmer than i3e due to the cu being quite floody...
so anyway, i have a couple of i3e...1 normal and 1 cu...both now hardly get used as i have a nitecore tip v2 on my keychain.

as for normal AA...i only have a zebralight sc52w and nitecore ea41...i use the ea41 more...but with a 14500 even tho it can use AA.

i3e is plenty bright already for keychain use anyway...just any normal AAA will do...but better buy rechargeables since alkalines can leak.

I think you can easily afford to buy another one. haha. Or perhaps wait for few months later. last i bought was around 12.99 in Aug this year. But price at usd 10 is definitely worth the price and i just bought one for spare.

Just received my SP31 today. I'm liking the shape a LOT

I've been wanting a dual switch light like Fenix PD35 ever since I saw one in Mount Xplorer.

With the SP31 although the side switch isn't very tactile and can misclick at times, I'm really liking the light so far.
Bought the light along with battery and charger since I'm out of battery and I needed a portable charger so this is great.

Though the Zanflare F1 could save me less in space and convenience but oh well SP31 is my to go now laugh.gif rclxm9.gif

it may "appear so" due to i3e is using a TIR optics while i3s-cu is using a shallow reflector, tested lumen at turned-on shows that i3s-cu is at least twice as bright as the i3e,

measured using Lithium L92 AAA battery, i3s-cu hotspot is bigger than i3e with quite a fair bit of side spills too... smile.gif

yup, you are right! haha... lumen vs lux, no argument there. biggrin.gif
for me, a balance of flood and throw is most useful in EDC (one of the reason I carry both E05 and i3e in the same keychain-group sweat.gif ).
another criteria that I always look at is the runtime vs brightness (another reason why I carry i3e instead of the i3s-cu).

there are so many choices now, even the budget range is good enough for daily use, not to mention there are many with convenient built-in rechargeable battery too.

fwiw, the i3s-cu is a little picky about the battery used. normal alky will likely not able to deliver that high mode for more than a minute and spend most of it's "high" mode close to 50% of its claimed brightness. Even when it's powered by NiMH or Lithium primary, there is a step-down after 3 minutes, it's one of the reason why when compares with i3e side-by-side, it may appears the i3e is just brighter. At turn on, both i3s-cu and i3e are good for seeing anything within 15-20 meters (with minimal light pollution) with i3s-cu leading the advantage in peripheral vision, but after a while (like 2-3 minutes), when i3s-cu drops its brightness, i3e will be seen as having better reach than the i3s-cu, thanks to the beauty of i3e TIR optics. thumbsup.gif

Hi. Kindly refer to the product posting the warranty as specified. Only jetbeam i mentioned no warranty as specified in the product post and banner. The fenix is only BC20 bicycle light that is without warranty, other brands olight, nitecore & balance of the fenix model is with 5 years warranty as mentioned in the product post. Tq. Gwen
