normally, the spring should sit firmly at the bottom... if you can remove the spring, you can try stretching the spring "a little" so that the battery will get a bit more "contact pressure".
another common intermittent failure are due to dirty thread or contact, have you try cleaning your contact point and body thread?

Fenix warranty is 24 months as stated here >> http://www.fenixlight.com/service.asp?action=tiaokuan

"...We will replace products afflicted with manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase;we will also repair a light free of charge within 24 months of purchase if problems develop with normal use..."

EDIT: mind telling us where you get it from? just notice that you are located at Sri Petaling from your avatar, perhaps you can contact our local Fenix distributor GadgetWorld2U for assistant?

It is actually very depends on the Reflector.

If the reflector is deep, usually you will get a focused beam, or beam with very tight hotspot, hence less side spill.

In contrast, shallow reflector (Short), will have a wide spill (Floody) light, but more spill means less hotspot.

Hello leroy87,

doess the watt of the flashlight determines the brightness?
:: no.

does the max output lumens determines the brightness?
:: sort-of...

or what other criterias is important?
:: for me >> size, battery choice, tint/CCT, beam profile, CRI, driver, LED, throw vs flood, Optics (Collimator vs TIR) vs reflectors (OP vs SMO), material, HA vs Type II vs Coated/Painted, machining, switching machanism, after sales service, warranty/repair turn-around time
:: secondary criterias are value, country of origin

*
Just a little correction.
Actually TIR is a beam collimator. =D

Watt does determine brightness. But it's only one of the factors. You'll need another reading to determine the brightness and that is efficiency/efficacy. Without it the wattage will tell you nothing.
As a side note, ignore all wattage rated lights for brightness readings as it will really tell you nothing of its brightness. (Esp. the 90-200W china lights, lol)

I advise you to try one light 1st. After a while you'll decide what criteria is important to you.

thanks man.. wanted to buy my first flashlight.. but of course im not going for high end ones first, js wana try the hobby..
any nice reccomendations for < RM100 ones? are ultrafires good?
*
Forget Ultrafires and all other (not)cheerful chinese cheapies.
If budget is tight the iTP A (A1, A2, A3, etc.) series is the best.
If you can stretch just a little bit then you might wanna look at 4Sevens MiNi/Preon (for small lights) or iTP's S series (SA1/2, SC1/2)
