rclxm9.gif Welcome to the Bright Side V4!!! rclxm9.gif

=================================================================
NOTICE:

We have created our very own forum, also called The Bright Side, hosted at Lumensreview. The new forum will host any future discussions and resources, and we hope it will grow and attract more Malaysian flashaholics too. I will not be updating this thread anymore and will be managing the new forum instead. However, it is not the end of the LYN Bright Side v4, there are still interactions and discussions among members.

Cheers,
Pseudoblue

Here's a reference link to the Bright Side V3, if you like to follow our discussions. smile.gif

The first 5 posts will contain general and selective information (links to internal and external sources), which is our collections, local dealers info/contact, reviews, gatherings, etc. I'll add and update information as required.

If you are new to LED and incandescent flashlights, here's a place where you can start learning about its technology and terminology = The Welcome Mat - a FAQ

Flashlights are considered one of the most useful portable lighting tool that sometimes people overlook. Speaking generally, can you remember how many times you've rely on the ambient light on your mobile phones when you're caught in a blackout, or needed to see something in the dark where light was absent, or just to see something covered in dark shadows, or even look for your keys and struggle to open a lock in the dark? It could be anything. A small high-powered LED light that runs on a single AAA battery can give you all the occasional illumination you need, anywhere. Besides other general use and at work, some of the stories I've read in disaster related situations, flashlights were one of the many depended tools that served its full potential, when rescue missions prevailed through the night and for days, just imagine the horror when night falls in a disaster affected area like these and with no electricity. Stories of how LEO, the military uses portable lightings at work and missions, which often can be a matter of life and death.

We, at the Bright Side are not only just users. We're enthusiasts, collectors and we are flashaholics! We just dig the lumens factor and its technological capabilities and advancements. Be it LED, incandescent or HID. We dig 'em! biggrin.gif

This is also the place to ask for your illumination needs for camping, blackout preparedness, work, play, adventure, hiking, emergencies, and collection brows.gif It is also the place to ask about its power source, primary and secondary battery rechargeables, i.e NiMH, Alkalines, Lithium, Lithium ION (LiMN, LiCo, LifePO4, LiPO), Sealed Lead-Acid, anything which relates. We have a base of different individuals with experience and knowledge that may be able to help you.

Flashlight Collection
It doesn't matter if you have just one or a hundred. If you have love for lumens, then you're a flashaholic! It doesn't matter if it's expensive or a cheapo, as long as it was there when you really needed a light!

*Links to all our members' collection will be posted here.

unfortunately you can't get it here for now.....the only place to get this is from the US retailer e.g, http://www.lighthound.com/Maglite-XL-100-M...ght_p_3518.html . RCP for this is USD39.99 before discount  biggrin.gif
I wonder how much it'll cost if the XL100 touchdown in Malaysia. And I'm thinking we won't see it until next year hmm.gif

(at higher drive currents, I believe the AW cell would be 2.4Ah, too!) hmm.gif
I believe so too..

QUOTE(csshih @ Apr 13 2010, 04:29 AM)
so.. to get 4 hours, it must be some sort of non-flat runtime!
Though, honestly, that may not be too bad of a thing, seeing as only a drop in ~40% is extremely noticeable.
Or combined runtime.

I believe it'll go for 2.5 hours or so. Let the light rest for an hour to have the battery voltage rebound, then switch on again, but yeap, at 40% output and dropping. Then, let it rebound again and switch on, 20% output and dropping, collect data.. WOW 4 HOURS!!!!

Same with the 600 hours Rookiedaddy was "amazed" at! lol

Olight might calculate their runtime way differently then we actually expect from the standards. I honestly don't think you'll get straight ~280-320 lumens for 4 hours out of an AW 18650.

Wat do u think ??
I think 1 switch is enough to done all job
I can change mode easily , i dun need aditional switch
& i find the side switch pretty ugly on the top of the body ....
To my liking, i prefer one switch though. But there are others that will find this UI very useful for them. It's up to your preference though.

Olight's M30 designed the side switch close to the tailcap switch, which can still allow one thumb operation. I haven't seen the M20 R5 yet...

Hehe, I think they're focussing more on the SST-90s

I did thought the M500 won't make it to the shelves, it has been too long already and it's last years news. If the final product made it 2nd quarter even, it doesn't have the edge anymore. I'm also thinking the G500 won't make it too. Unless we see an impressive difference from the Quark Turbo 123^2.... 1.5A max? wide and deep reflector for outstanding throw? We have to wait and see biggrin.gif

When I read the datasheets again, I came across these on the 2nd paragraph...

XP-G:
XLamp XP-G LEDs are the ideal choice for lighting applications where high light output
and maximum efficacy are required, such as flashlights, head-mounted lighting, bicycle
lighting, solar-powered lighting and other battery-powered lighting applications.

And some noted in cpf that it is not meant for flashlights! LOL! (and the green tint bla bla bla). Well it is bright.

MX-6:
The XLamp MX-6 LED brings high performance and quality of light to a wide range
of lighting applications, including linear lighting, LED light bulbs, fluorescent retrofits
and retail-display lighting.

Could this be the high CRI version? Cause, retail-display usually prefers warm halogen bulbs right.. brows.gif

For those who have taken deeper interests in tints, I still think the XR-E's tint is much better on flashlights, cool and neutral.

Spotted a TK20 torture test! But no pictures, it was just a reply from a CPF thread, so here it is:

QUOTE(Jash)
I got a TK20 just yesterday to beat the crap out of to see how tough it really is.

I dropped it a half dozen times on concrete from 3-7 feet. Went for a walk and chucked the thing as far a I could, onto gravel. Threw it down onto gravel, chucked it against a tree, jumped on it and the thing never gave in. It only stopped once because the tail cap came loose. Tightened it up and away it went.

I'm going to buy another so I can have one without scratches and dents all over it. This ones going in the tool box.

The tint is awesome! Think incan glow. It's not that bright, but I can see things in more detail than lights with more output that have a cool white tint.

2 x AA  Flashlight recommendation
High Lumens ,must be Bright enough to light up something up to 150 feet away.

Any Suggestion ? first suggestion from me

1) EagleTac P20A2 Mark II ( 230 Lumens ) ( XP-G Led) ( 2xAA)
150 feet achievable with many 2 AA lights hmm.gif
2) Fenix LD20 XPG R4
3) Fenix TK20 XRE Q2
3) Lumapower Vantage XRE R2
4) 4Sevens Quark AA^2 XPG R5
5) 4Sevens Quark Turbo AA^2 XPG R5

Some news from 4Sevens front... "Limited-run WARMS"...
Ooo, XPG warms are finally here.

Btw, I did a general runtime test on the Fenix E10 by obeservation until the output dropped noticeably around 50% (Fenix E10 runtime on specs is 3.5 hours). Using an Imedion AA (2.1AH) which was fully charged and kept for a month. I played with the light for abit, and compared tints with my other lights drool.gif The rebel LED's tint is beautiful! It's in the cool white category but leaned more to the yellow side! And it seemed as though it has a neutral tint! After playing, I let it on a continuous run:

1st hour: Body felt slightly warm, light output still good.
2nd hour: Body felt slightly warmer to the touch. Light output seems to maintain (although if it dropped by a few percentage, it's not noticeable)
3rd hour: Body temp seemed to maintained like the 2nd hour. At 45 mins, output noticeably dropped at estimated 50% and noticeably dimmer every minute. After 10 minutes, it seems to give somewhere around 2 - 5 lumens (compared with another light). And I switched the light off. Quickly took a reading on the battery @ 0.9v and climbing back up. brows.gif

So, it's okay to say that you can get at least 3 solid hours from an LSD NiMH, like Imedions and possibly an Eneloop.

Oh, would you guys rate the E10s output as OTF 55 lumens?
Are Fenix now going for reliable output statements?
I'm not sure.. but I guessed it at 50L when I first saw the light without knowing the specs (i'm a pro yeah) brows.gif Anyway.. it is bright enuf. Somewhere dimmer than Quark on High mode (with 14500).

QUOTE(polkiuj @ Apr 16 2010, 11:05 AM)
Will you do a 14500 run-time test too? =D
Put it in water then you can test it's waterproofness as well! =D
Lol.
Haha, maybe. But I did do a quick, 5 min water test while it was on.

QUOTE(polkiuj @ Apr 16 2010, 11:42 AM)
Pseudoblue: can check with you something (If you can test for me). When the battery is very low and you off the light, can it be turned n again?
Ah I did not do that doh.gif But so far lights that had output dropped when battery is low will allow me to switch off and on again (worked for TK20, RRT-0, Quark Mini, P20C2). Should work for this too.

Only my Zebralight H501w seems to lock it down. According to Rookiedad, a tail lockout and letting the battery rebound will allow you to switch it on again on low.

I'm looking for something compact-ish and bright. The Thrunite Catapult is not bad, but then the S1200 might be even nicer. Still eagerly awaiting more news and specs. If they had a neutral white version... wow....
Compact, bright and have reasonable good runtime would be a 2x 123 light or 1x 18650 light. Going for the EagleTac P20C2 or T20C2 is like a good choice for me biggrin.gif But the S1200 seems like a long wait. Hopefully it is something worth waiting for biggrin.gif

QUOTE(jchong @ Apr 16 2010, 01:41 PM)
For those of you with neutral white lights, is it that much better than the normal one? I don't have any NW lights yet.
To my experience, this can be a matter of preference. But it is true that in general, the warmer tint will be more soothing to our eyes, giving a comfortable mood or feel, and to bring out certain color properties. The applicability of neutral, warm and cool white is very broad. I still personally prefer cool whites for flashlights, (yes to all neutral white guys, shocking eh tongue.gif ). But because of the inconsistency with cool whites in flashlights (especially greenish tint!), the neutral tint is something I best prefer now. A proper cool white light provide good clarity for objects, colors and skin tone even. Warm white however, brings out the strength in colours and depth. Again, these tints covers a very broad area of application. The only light, that has all the rich properties and accuracy and capable of changing its tint, is the SUN! rolleyes.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif whistling.gif
