just my opinion.
if you are into bodybuilding, i think you need to eat at least 0.75 gram per pound of your bodyweight...
because protein help in building muscle and repairing the trained tissue..

if you are just into getting fit, i think you can try to maintain less than that amount.

i don't see any reason for you to replace protein. but if you don't wanna grow, then you can replace it.
you don't have to buy protein supplement if u are in a tight budget.
you can get them protein in food that you can eat everyday, and they are nice to eat also.
egg, beef meat, fish, chicken breast, etc etc..

please correct me if i'm wrong.

Its not just protein shakes that expensive. grocery shopping is expensive too.

one question, how much were you buying your protein powder in the first place. I hope its not some fancy schmancy protein thats RM450 for 30 servings or such.
In case you're wondering, Mine is RM190 for 70-80 servings. ONs 100% Whey.

and if you werent growing in the last 6 months. your diet is messed up.

i think its not coz his diet alone.
maybe it could be ur routine sucks.
thats why not much growth.
by the way, ur starting growth is just beginners gain.
so wat u see is actually just a lie.
this gets tougher as time goes by coz by then, its harder to pack on muscles compared to beginners gain. =.=
