So it's like you set zoom to 200mm and focus to far, then suddenly u focus around 1.4m from camera, the view will suddenly jump to very wide (130mm) instead of 200mm?

Can't fix that, unless they come out with VR2 mark 2 or VR3. Probably some trade off they had to improve it from the older VR. But then again, 70-200 usage range isn't for such a short distance anyways la.

Don't force me to buy 70200 VRII and shoot figure with that XD

You wouldn't know, maybe you would go photoshooting with models, use wide end of 70200 and f2.8 to shoot at close range. haha

EDIT:
oh yea, this issue only occurs in the tight end (200mm). so doesn't matter lah XD

hey guys...need some help here. just some background here, i've used a d90, 50D and also compact cameras before. I also know all the common photography terms already.

now here's the dilemma. I've been asked to be the photographer for my skool's charity dinner event which will be held in sunway hotel. that probably means, very low light + orange lights.
the thing is, the only gear that i'm provided is just a nikon d60 with 18-55mm lens and NO external flash.

so any quick tip/crash course so that i can get at least some usable shots? any ways to diffuse the pop-up flash and etc?

what would you guys do in such situations?

Higher ISO (800 or 1600), Slower shutter 1/30s, widest aperture f3.5-5.6, pop up flash.

can diffuse so many way the pop up flash but my fav still using the film can. white color one. tongue.gif

adjust the WB wud be ok. use the pop up flash + diffuser to light up the face.

tbh with u guys....the thing "good skills + no gear" applies here.

i was thinking manual K WB. that would solve the tungsten problem.

the other prob is, shortie lens, 55mm and i'm left with f/5.6.

speedlight not available. haihhh...pop-up flash only lights foreground. bg all left in the dark.

iso performance of D60 also =.= mannn...this is hard

can try manual control of the pop up flash power, set lower so not so harsh
n if your schl jz want viewable pics of ppl as main subject, they wouldnt mind the noise actually

With slower shutter and high iso, u will be able to capture background light as well. Go experiment it 1st. Using pop up flash don't juz mean ur background will be in total darkness.

back to basix,
better with small DOF rather then noise,
better with noise rather then blur image,
better with blur rather then no image.

D60 got Kelvin meh? didn know dat.

55m is not a problem. just compensate it with more walking

F5.6? used to be no problem when i was first start DSLR

with limited gears, dnt expect u can get same result with ur own gears.

Go try and take some shoot few days earlier? Get some rough idea about what setting need to be use on that exact day.

quite true. aperture largest only 3.5 at 18mm. zoom a bit to 50mm, it's already f/5.6

i dont mind 55 coz it's almost like 50mm. but the point is, f/5.6 in such dark lighting is like sweat.gif sweat.gif shakehead.gif

nope...cant do that either. can only go like 1 or 1/2 hours earlier. well, i guess back to my experience with compact camera. look around for white card etc.
